GameBoy did not have NES graphics. Not even close.

But I would love to see an official handheld capable of playing GC style games.

GB-slightly better than NES

GBC-varies, but some are better than SNES

GBA-32-bit, I think, so in between SNES and N64

DS-better than N64

LOL @ ^. How is gbc better then snes? Are u serious??? Look at the DKC port and how the graphics decreased drastically...

If anything,

GB = GBC = NES

GBA = SNES

DS = N64

So should the next handheld be BETTER than gamecube? Wouldn't that make it practically as good as the Wii.

I wouldn't say that the DS has N64 graphics - not even close. Just because the NDS can run games in three dimensions doesn't put it on par with the N64. I'd say that Nintendo's next handheld (if they make a next one...I wouldn't be surprised at another 'DS-i' move) would probably be capable of n64 graphics, but the DS? Not a chance. To give you an idea, the N64 had a main processor at about 94 MhZ, and a co-processor at about 64 MhZ, whereas the DS has a main CPU at 66.67 MhZ and a secondary CPU at 33 MhZ. Both systems have 4MB of RAM, though the N64 allowed a booster pack that brought it up to 8.5MB, necessary to play some games such as Majora's Mask.

So, no. Graphics are getting better, yes, but Nintendo's handhelds aren't quite keeping up with their consoles. Maybe next-gen.

The DS for a handheld has medicore graphics nowadays compared to the likes of the PSP. I think DS is perhaps slightly less than the N64 so I dont think the next Nintendo handheld will up with the Gamecube. But I reckon its a few years down the line so you never know.

GBC = NES

GBA = SNES

DS = N64

But keep in mind the DS is more or less N64 graphics. In some games such as Mario Kart they are the same but on other DS games it is clear the N64 had a little more power.

The next handheld should be able to more or less produce gamecube graphics, although just like on the DS some title will show it off more than others.

GBChad alot more imporvements than just adding color. not all the games showed the improvments, but some did. and just like other people said, the next hand held will be around the power of the GCN, but ome will show it better than others. it really depends on how much effort they put inot it and how mcuh space they have to work with on whatever the system will play (probably disks by that point).

This.

= Gameboy

= NES

= Gameboy Color

There is no way that NES=GB in terms of graphics.

Wario Land 3!!!!!!!!!!! OMG like my favorite GBC game. To think I bought it on impulse and ended up loving it. *ahem* Sorry for the nostalgic moment there. I'm all for a Nintendo portable with Gamecube graphics so long as it doesn't cost a lot of money. With the DSi being at about $180 or so I'm a bit worried.

Not necessarily. Those types of graphics aren't easy to achieve on a handheld. I imagine they'd have to sacrifice battery life to get that level graphical quality, and nobody wants that, right? Unless of course, they can figure out a way to get graphics that good on a handheld, without sacrificing battery life. But I imgine that wouldn't be easy.

Besides, we don't even know if Nintendo will go for better graphics on they're next handheld system. For all we know, they could stick with the same type of graphics the DS has. They did something similar to that with the Wii, so it's definitely a possibility.

Nintendo's next handheld will probably have graphics not as good as the Gamecube, but maybe around the PSP's level of graphics.

If Nintendo keeps making these extreme peripherals, then I'm sure they can't exactly do too much about it... I like having enough DS battery life to play ALL day on a full charge and be fine. The PSP? Lasts me less than an hour. I just don't see why people want to have awesome stuff like a touch screen, amazing graphics, really long battery life, and loud sound. I think also that the only competition ever created for the Nintendo was a couple consoles and one handheld, not too much variety in the other consoles, or awesome gameplay.

Oh crap! Another "OMG, lets compare teh DS garphix!" topic.

Mark my words, this will end in a system wars topic. With screams and smoke typical of those topics.

Anyway... I don't see why not they can make their next generation handheld with gamecube graphics (or even better), as the years goes, Nintendo will archieve more technology to do so... well, even if they CAN... graphics aren't exactly Ninty's entry point... i bet they will come with another feature that will change the way of gaming for many games. (just like the touchscreen did.)
