Has anyone here beaten SMB? I think the farthest I have gotten to, is world 6. I'm not sure if that's very good, though....
BTW, is there a way to jump over the pole?

-_-III
what the heck?
it's rigged because he jumps on the flowers in the pipes and doesn't die..
I've never beaten it. The farthest I've gotten is 8-4. It's usually the Hammer Bros. on 8-3 that kill me.
I have beaten every Super Mario game that has been released up to Mario Galaxy. I won't play that one until my gf finishes it first (she's using the guide book).
You can jump over the pole, but the game will snatch you back as soon as you start to pass it.
I downloaded it on the VC, first time I played the NES version. Crazy, I know... well the same day I d'led it I got to 5-4 (no warps, warps=cheating imo), furthest i've gotten still... but I haven't tried it in a lil while. So now I wanna try again lol
Extra lives are so hard to come by... it's a pretty challenging game :?
once i beat it 3 times in a row!! then i got bored...so i quit.
have any of you made it to world negative one? i have once but ive never been able to get there again :(

ive actually made it over the pole once before without any kind of cheat. you cant do anything after it happens though, you can only wait for the time to run out and then you die!!!!!
I've beaten it dozens of times... originally got it for my birthday in 1986, a few months after it came out.
You can't jump over the flagpole in this one... but you CAN in the Lost Levels. In fact, in that game when you jump over the flag pole, you can find hidden warp zones and such.

No, in the earliest edition of the game there were certain glitches that speed-runners consider to be part of the game, and being able to touch the tips of the flowers was one of the glitches. They obviously removed that gitch in future shipments.

I beat it when I was around 4, about 13 years ago then.
Yes, you can jump over the pole, nothing happens. You just have to jump from the back to hit the pole, and because you don't have anything to jump off of you get little points.
I'm starting to feel I'm not verry good, at this game. :P I got to world 8, BTW.epayps2
Don't feel bad. It's ok if you weren't even born during the NES days. For what is worth, most NES games required you to have abnormally quick reflexes and eye to hand coordination. The whole thing starting slowing down since the SNES.
I'm sure most of us would suck at games like Contra for the NES if we had to play them again.

I remember that video. I've heard by many sources that its a program controlling Mario and not an actual person though. I don't remember when I beat it the first time but I have beaten the game at least three or four times and Super Mario Bros. 2 at least twice. I have never beaten the 3rd game though... its impossible!

It's not impossible. Save all your P wings for the last levels, you'll get through.

Well there's your problem.
Some people think that they will have a better chance if they warp the whole game. But sometimes it's better for some people to play the game through and collect a lot of items. I mean, you're supposed to play the game that way anyway, right? Warps are just for fun.
