We've had this system in our hands for about 3 weeks now, and I can't help but notice the 3D effects have become less noticible. not in a bad way, but like its not something I look for anymore, I just take it for granted. like HD on consoles, I only really miss or notice it when its inactive. has this happened with anyone else?

well the day i bought it (on launch) I played witht he 3D on for about 5 minutes and never went back, so I guess yes.

I doubt I'll EVER play with teh 3D unless its mandatory or just for a few minutes to check out certain games like zelda or star fox.

nope :-) I still find myself flicking the switch up and down over and over again when I should just be playing the game. Every time the 3D effect kicks into effect I smile on the inside :-)

As I've mentioned elsewhere, the "wow" effect has diminished for me since you can never again capture the experience of seeing it for the first time, but I certainly notice when it's not there because the visuals look rather dull. The 3D effect really makes even mundane visuals like the menu screens "pop" with a liveliness that simply can't be duplicated with a 2D image.

well it's bound to happen at some point. but just like how HD consoles have their final fantasy XIII's to make your jaw drop at the visuals, there will be games that will make you look at it and think "OMAGAWD".

The "wow" factor is kind of gone, but whenever I turn a game back into 2D I don't really like it. It feels odd, flat and boring.

You might say that, but if you want to make that comparison than HD is a gimmic too. Both are visual effects that you miss when they aren't there.

It hasn't really diminished for me. I haven't used it much, really.

I don't have the "wow, it's so cool!" feeling anymore but that's to be expected. I'm sure when people saw color tv for the first time they were floored by it but now everybody takes it for granted. :)

I will say this though. Whenever I play Pilotwings and flick the 3d off, it's apparant that it plays much better in 3d.

As I'v stated before, do you walk around in real life saying "WOW I CAN SEE DEPTH!"? Its only inevitable that the "wow factor" will go away.

Infact, I think stereocopic 3D is better when you don't notice it.

This is what happens to all experiences aftermore time frominitial interaction passes.

It happens with new food, learning to drive, buying new clothes.

It's our nature to lose some of that initial excietement, but what replaces it is tru fondess and value (if the product is worth it).

Yeah, its no longer amazing, but its still cool. I'd go as far to say that its a step up visually. There are plenty of games that could benefit from it though, so I wouldn't call it gimmicky either.

I don't see anything good about the 3D effect when using, I notice it but it adds nothing to the game for me, it forces me to hold the system in a way I don't want to, and it makes me sick after a little while so I haven't been using it enough for it to diminish.

Indeed I do wish to make that comparison, though the difference atm is that HD as a gimmick has faded but it has crossed over into a standard ... although personally I wouldnt miss the 3D effect as i cant see it anyway but the point still stands :)

Why are you comparing resolutions to stereoscopy? There is nothing gimmicky about a higher pixel density(it will always improve as technology improves). Do you go to the movie theatre, sit there watching a movie running at 4k resolution and say "this is such a gimmick".

The current stereoscopic 3D however, will probably start to die out after some type of more immersive "3D"(hologram technology?) takes over in 10 years or beyond. (Even holograms have a resolution.)

The only thing I would call a gimmick about resolutions is marketing behind the term "HD". What are we going to call 4k resolution, "Higher Definition"? What about 8k resolution, "Even Higher Definition"? What about resolutions beyond that?

I've only had mine a few days, but I've been playing Arkham Asylum in 3D on Ps3 for weeks and that "novelty" has yet to be lost on me. What I find amazing is the amount of people/reviewers who say they are turning it down or off completely. I've had the slider on the max setting since the second I turned it on, and I doubt I will EVER change that. I love the 3D effect; totally proves to me that I need to upgrade to a 3D TV just for gaming...

I'm sure once a new game comes out you will be wow'd again. You are currently used to the 3D effect in the games you own & because everygame renders its 3D differently you have to wait for new games.
