Mario is on another adventure.........Would this be his 8964th time or him 8965th? How is Mario still popular after 20 years of repetetive gameplay and storyline. Don't get me wrong, I like Mario and so do millions of others, but I ask how is Mario so popular having suckled of the same story line-oh no! the world is being invaded by giant mushrooms!? we're all hopeless....so...I know, we'll send mario to fight them all, and, yet again, fight bowser at the end, and save the princess, and have a happy ending, and and and and and and and and and....

I don't think Mario's repetitive. Story is repetitive, yes. But no one plays Mario for the story... At least I don't think anyone does. lol The story is just an excuse to hop on some enemies and do some platforming.

Jajathinx

Because Mario has never been about the storyline. Not every game needs a storyline. In fact, platformers should avoid even trying to have a storyline.

Dude, that doesn't even make sense and besides I said repetitive GAMEPLAY AND storyline. Ok no-one really playsMario for the story, butit still gets annoying. I mean the gameplay, jumping on mushrooms and picking up coins, I feel like a three year old. I like Super Mario Galaxy for its innovativeness, but now a Galaxy 2? What more can they do? I'm telling you Nintendo are scraping the bottom of the jar with this one.

Yeah, I agree. Super Mario Galaxy was brilliant, something like the second or third highest rated game of all time but a SEQUEL. Ridiculous. I mean, I can understand a Halo 3, or a COD 6, because well, they've got guns... but a Super Mario Galaxy 2... they must be on somecrazy wacky stuff.

You ask "what more can they do" but what we already know about the game reveals that the entire reason why they made a Galaxy 2 is because they had that much more to do.

Picking up mushrooms and coins is just a staple of Mario games; complaining about those always being present would be like complaining that an FPS always has guns.

Well, not necessarily; the Sly Cooper series was a platformer that had a really good story that was integrated very well.

Nah but this is different. Jajathinx has decided that all of a sudden Nintendo have run out of ideas and should jsut not bother releasing Galaxy 2.

Mario games are not known for their captivating stories. They are known for having solid gameplay that casuals and hardcore gamers can enjoy.

Mario games have run over 500 courses over the past 20 years, and they went from "go right and jump" to "move 3 dimensionally and jump" and now "move orbitally and jump" we humans have simple taste.

Chess hasn't changed in centuries and people still love that game. Once you grasp the concept that a game can be timeless, you'll realize there is no "run its course" limit for it. Mario is one of those timeless games.

When you think about it in the past 13 years there have been only 3 (almost 4) full fledged 3D Mario titles: Super Mario 64 - 1996 Super Mario Sunshine - 2002 Super Mario Galaxy - 2007 Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 2010 So yeah there's been lots of mario games, but many are various spin offs.

The only Mario games that aren't too good are spin off games. But even some of the those are good, like Paper Mario.

The OP also thinks Metroid Prime Trilogy is repetitive, boring, and has a bad storyline, according to his user review. He gave it a 5.0 stating that it's a big waste of time. Sounds very familiar to his thoughts on Super Mario Galaxy and the Mario games.. Just so you guys know.

Jajathinx

Let me guess. YOU want Mario to run his course. Oh ok. Well Nintendo has kept Mario fresh, by putting him in different genres and adding various gameplay mechanics on top of the basics. Also, if you have a formula that works why fix it?

If you want a story-driven Mario game, play the Paper Mario series. The platforming Mario games have always been about gameplay, story means nothing in them. Although Galaxy did throw in some clever curves to the old formula.

Mario will never run it's course for many reasons, the biggest is that Nintendo will always use their AAA team to develop flagship Mario games. It is my opinion Nintendo employs the best developers in the video game industry.
