It's been a problem for the handheld games especially. I'm sure people still remember the gba and the strain no backlight entails. Even though the ds has this new feature, some people do not use it because they want to conserve energy. Do you think it's a good trade? Do you guys think your eyesight has been hampered by games? do you think it matters at all and that a pair of contacts solves everything?umbracascade
There was when i played my friends PSP and my GBA, but the ds has no problem like that because of the dual screen. you dont have to always look down at it

"CIASSIC" GBA?!? boy.. make me feel old.. i remember my first GAME BOY. Fat, white, and 2 colors. and te concept of a "backlight' was unheard of.
..but yes, i would say that games have weakened my eyes to a degree.
I'm ashamed to say that it was BOOKS that messed me up, not games. I freely admit to reading with a flashlight when told to go to bed... books also gave me a slight drug problem. I love sniffing books freshly arrived off the truck. Mmm, my synapses practically drool at the scent of paperback.TigerBitten
:| You're very odd, I salute you.

Nope, and I've been playing handhelds for a while now.kornholio360ok I gota say that the oringinator of this ropic and the first 3 ppl. to replay are wrong about the way video games affect your vision. First of all Computer screens are the biggest reason for near sightnes. Cuz any screen over 16" can start to impair your vision because if your at the avarage distance from the screen (.5'-2') then most of the screen is out of your field of vision and it cauese your eyes (specialy yout pulpal muscules) to strain wich starts too make you have impaired vision. now when I say impaired vision I mean stuff like near of far sightness. now as a 15 yaer old im near sighted because When I was 4 years old I used to play computer games (you kno those reading and math games. and tonka games as well) occationaly for about 2 years, wat I didn't kno at the time was that I was playing on a 17" screen so I was already starting to impair my vision. 2 years later in 2st grade I needed classes but I some how regain vision after not wearing them. Now I use a 15" screen w/ a resolution of 1024x768 (which isn't to bad for gaming at leat I can play most of my games maxed at that reolution), down-grading from a 19". Second of all portable gaimng devices like to DS,GBA anD even the PSP don't even come close to affecting your vision. because the screen is in your feild of view, like I said any screen over 15" affects you vision. but you might be thinking "your much closer to a portable screen", well thats the cass but wat your not contious about is that when you play a portable you can see the screen plus the device its sefl and your back round. go ahead try it. Since portable screens are way more than in your field of vision, your eys are almost completly relaxed the whol entire time you playing a game. On more ting (this is it) LCDs are way more easyer on your eyes than CRTs. I don't exatly kno why but it's wat my uncle told me. Also when your playing games on a TV, as long as your not ,more than 2' awy from the screen then your fine as long as you can see the TV and then some of the back round (that appies for ppl. with TVs from 24" to 72") now for ppl. who are wondering how I kno all this it's becase my uncle is a sub-profesional eye specialest in Vermont, and he does my cheak-ups and S@#t like that, so he talked w/ me about stiff like that.

And?Okay to the 15 year old with they Eyespecialist Unkie.
You are 15. Your eyes have not finished growing. The peak "age" for eyes is in their 20's around 22-25.
By this age your eyes will have become either shortsighted or longsighted or remain 20/20 or close to, depending on various factors.
They are:
Lifesty1e
Genetics
Heritage
Job
Accidents
At 15 you are more 'susceptible' to eye damage from such things as games. And if youve been gaming since you were 4 its no surprise. Your eyes have spent their life 5inches from a screen of somesort and have had no need to see any further.
On another note. Gaming is a double edged knife on our eyes.
On one side of the blade it affects our DEPTH PERCEPTION. It may shorten or lengthen it.
On the other side it increases CO_ORDINATION, REFLEXES and ADAPTABILITY.
Its finding a moderation of either which determines what is best for you.
In my personal experience I started gaming on a black and white Gameboy aka the Brick. I was 7. BUT i wasnt on it all day like youths today.
My vision is now 14/19 but this arised not though games but more so through Army service, road accidents and general age.
I am now 22 before you say anything.
On a final note. The vision of the eyes cannot be AFFECTED solely by gaming. Those who say so are people with very closed eyes and are prejudiced against what they do not know.
Every part of your body can affect your vision from Stress to Injury.

And?and my eyesight worsened before i actually had a pc
I think they may have caused my long distance vision problems.WushuFighter? is that when everything far away goes blurry?
[QUOTE="SmashBrosLegend"]No. I can see things that are close up very well. And it has been proven that playing online FPS games can actually help eyesight.j3v1zzle
For real?
As I stated earlier. Yes.
People who play FPS in moderation have better eye co-ordination and their eyes can track moving targets with more ease.
Its also theorised that people who play RTS expand their "minds" eye, able to assimilate large amounts of information in short spaces of time.
