Do the HD component cables make that much of an improvement to warrant a purchase?

Yes they do. I bought component cables for my Wii before I even bought any games.

I bought a third party pair online for like $7 and to be honest, I can't tell the difference. That could be due to the fact that the Nintendo brand cables (for like $40!) make a bigger difference.

You could not tell the differece even between that and the composite cable? they must be some bad quality cables or something :?.

They wont make the Wii display in HD but they will clean up the picture and allow 480p if your set supports it.

Well I have a 1080p TV, so I guess it sounds like it makes a bit of a difference.

S-video, RGB and YPbPr are all component videos...
For non-progressive sources is RGB the best way to go (SCART or VGA). The colors are actually split on 3 different pins which isn't the case with YPbPr (sloppy refered to as component video).

I was kind of wondering the same thing.

Does anyone know if it makes a difference on a 46" HDTV, capable of 1080p ?

And if so, are the component cables made by Nyko any good ? I ask because I have never trusted stuff made by 3rd parties.

I've got a 56" 1080p tv and I would never go back to the composite cables. I think the bigger your tv is the more you will benefit from it. I'm not sure if nyko component cables but they can't be that bad.
