My wii has been making a cicada sound, I've cleaned it many times and cleaned the vents and the disc slot. The sound is loud and annoying and when I look up support they don't mention it. Anybody have suggestions, or should I send it to Nintendo?

My Wii made a noise kind of like you mentioned for a while (back when MP3 was still new). I tried lots of things to fix it, but what finally worked was laying it down on its side for a while. The noise slowly subsided and then stopped altogether, and now I've had it standing up again for a long time and the noise has never come back. I hope this helps!

Try what captain fork did. Otherwise your best bet is to send it to Nintendo.

It took about a week, but I'm not exactly certain it'll be the same in your case. If it's like mine, the sound fluctuated from louder to quiter back to louder again. Is that what yours does? Also, I'd call Nintendo or send them an email before sending it in, just in case they can help you without having to send it in. I've sent them an email before, and they responded in a timely manner, so it might be worth it.

Just out of curiosity, does it make the sound with all of your games? And could you say which games make the sound? Mine made the sound with games that required constant disc-reading, like MP3 and and LoZ:TP (after MP3 started making the sound, that is).

Mine does go louder to softer to louder and it does stop after a while, and no it does not do it on every game it does it on: SMG (breifly) Trama Center, and bully. How do you e-mail Nintendo?

You can email Nintendo from the website www.nintendo.com. Search for the support section and from there you should see a "contact us" link.

Yeah, that sounds almost exactly the same. I don't know if laying it down for a while will fix it, but it seemed to work for mine. Otherwise, I'm lost!

The Wii's disc drive is really noisy. You'll notice is more in some games than in others. In MP3 it's really obvious because data gets loaded while you're waiting for doors to open, and there's not much going on (because you killed everything in the room you're trying to leave) and the game gets quiet, so the disc drive noises really stand out. I got my Wii on launch day, and it's been making these same loud noises for more than a year, but has never had a disc read error, so I'm not going to worry about it. My warranty's expired anyway.
