So for Christmas I got some cash, and I'm using it to buy some new clothes and 1 new game. I would like to get a platformer since I already have enough RPGs. I pretty much narrowed it down to either Yoshis Island DS or New Super Mario Bros.

I would like some advice on which game should I get and some pros and cons for both. Also, if anyone has any awesome inside information on another platformer that I should try out instead, that would be great too but I pretty much have it narrowed down to those 2 games.

Thanks, and I'm posting this here instead of the game recommendation thread because I'm lookin for more than 1 opinion.

I would have to say New Super Mario Bros. While Yoshi's Island DS is great, NSMB has a lot more content, replayability and is a better platformer overall.

new super mario bros;

1 it is the single greatest nintendo ds game of all time or very close too imo

2 it has very fun mini games that can be played single player or multiplayer using as few as only one game cart

3 its multiplayer portion where you play mini games is some of the very best local multiplayer the DS has to offer

4 limitless replayability

I thought Yoshi's Island had more replayability because of how hard it is to get 100% in it. Also, if anyone has either game can you tell me how much save files each game has. I have a brother and a game with 2 save files instead of only 1 is much more preferred for me.

if you have a SNES get original yoshis island , i love it, still have it on snes and i bought it for GBA. New one is great also. I would say get either one you want and DEFINATELY save money and get the other one.

I'd say go with New Super Mario Bros. for pretty much the same reasons everyone else has mentioned. Yoshi's Island DS is a good game as well, but not quite as good as the first.

"Also, if anyone has either game can you tell me how much save files each game has. I have a brother and a game with 2 save files instead of only 1 is much more preferred for me." Just quoting this again. I would really like to know this. Thanks in advance.

I liked the 3rd (?) Yoshi's Island a lot more then Yoshi's Island DS. This Yoshi's Island is unneedingly (woo) difficult, espeically on the ice levels.

New Super Mario Bros. fo sho.

For me, NSMB was way too easy. But at the same time, a few of the levels on Yoshi's Island were pretty difficult. They're on opposite ends of a difficulty scale, that's for sure. If it was me picking one over the other, I'd take Yoshi' Island easily.
