Help me!!! My stupid sister left the wii on for 5 hours straight without playing and it shut off automatically, now, after 10 minutes of play, it turns off. Help me!

P.S I had an extended warranty and now it expired. :(

that sucks man, I would probably call nintendo about it and see what they can do. Either way... if she fried your GPU, you need a new one.

tell her to make sure to check the antifreeze everyonce in awhile!!!

Its funny how many users have Wii overheating issues and the systems weaker than the xbox. It's pretty much an overclocked GC.

Yeah, that's what I would do, too. Oh, you're talking about the Wii, yeah, that might work.

Patriarchal society = a curse to all living things. Hardee-har. :-P No, you didn't have to say that. Hopefully, when you get older, you will mature out of that particularly ignorant mindset.

i've left my wii on for days at a time without turning it off. I've left it mid-game on pause for a day many times. no heat issues.

I'm nearly convinced that leaving a disk in the Wii when it's on stand bye will overheat the system. Every time I leave a disk in because I'm going to be playing the game again in an hour or so, the game often doesn't want to load and the disk is really warm.

my wii has actually started doing weird things like that too but randomly. It'll work if I leave a disk in overnight but sometimes when I turn the system on it just won't read the disk. If I restart the system it loads in seconds but every once in a while its just not registering the disk. So far I'm not concerned because a reboot fixes everything but maybe I should be :(

The laser may need cleaning. Do your disks get hot when you leave them in the unit? Do you power your Wii off completely or do you leave it connected to the internet 24/7?

I leave the internet on all the time. When I take the disks out they're a bit warm but not warmer than they've ever been. they always come out a bit warm. the wii itself isn't too warm either. Like the disks its always been warm when I let it run but never like dangerously warm feeling. the front of it is actually room temperature, just the back thats a little toasty.

Well, if it was turned on for too long, turn it off and let it cool before playing again. Also, disable Wiiconnect24 for it to really "rest". Then try again.

If it still turns off, try being inventive:try playing with a fan directlywinding at the Wii, if it works like that it means the Wii isn't being able to cool by itself and your syster really did some damage.

this isnt always a bad idea actually...if your trying to recover data from a bad hard drive this often does the trick

It could be that your fan broke. The fan on my Wii broke last summer, and it would overheat after about thirty minutes of play time. Luckily, if you just point an external fan at the Wii, it will work perfectly, it will actually be cooler than its own internal fan would make it anyway. If you are a technical person however, you may be able to fix your Wii by yourself. Although this would certainly void your warranty, my friend opened up my Wii and fixed my fan in about five minutes.
