What did you guys think of the demo?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I tried it out for the first time last night and it was everything I was expecting it to be. I have been looking for a game like this for a while and am glad one has finally arrived. I preordered this a while ago and am eagerly anticipating its release on Tuesday. I was a bit disappointed that the Savage was not available for play in the demo as that is the class I am most looking forward to.
For some reason it struck me as a true next gen handheld game. The only thing I didn't like was I was able to run through the dungeon and beat the boss without any help or doing any of the optional side quests. I hope there will be different difficulty settings.
I think this demo was very limited, but I do hope there will be more challenges. I was surprised that a demo on the 3DS let you actually play with random people online too. So far the online seemed to work decently but I have to say overall the demo was solid. I would probably get this game down the line now, but not soon. I have no money... unless I get it for my birthday or something. For some reason it struck me as a true next gen handheld game. I kind of try not to do this but I am buying this to show my support for the concept as much as anything. It seems good but not excellent. I will have to see how the real game pans out to make a real judgement. I've had it on preorder since it was possible to have it on preorder.
I thought it was a game that was extremely forgettable and got bored of it rather quickly. Just seems like fairly generic dungeon crawler and didn't really bring anything that I haven't seen a thousand times before with similar style games.OhJayDubyaI agree. Everything worked fine (I was finally able to play online) but it wasn't memorable at all.

Yeah me too. I would like the game to sell well just so other developers, including Nintendo, start including these features in their games.
That is in a way how I feel about the game. I think it could be "solid" but nothing better than a fun game to pass the time too. I don't think it's something that's very memorable, because the world and style of the game is just... generic. It wasn't bad, but wasn't memorable. The game itself has lots of bells and whistles on it that I want to see standard in online 3DS titles though, so I want to show support for this kind of concept. I'm more buying in hopes others will and it gets greater support, and more games have these features.I kind of try not to do this but I am buying this to show my support for the concept as much as anything. Maybe you can help me out here. I created an account on heroesofruin.com and I cant see where youre supposed to go to obtain the numeric/QR code to link my account. Tips? Ideas?Got it today and it is very addictive and fun!
easy communication, since every 3ds has a built in mic!
diablo-styled loot system!
daily challanges/valor points for extras!
fun skill trees! etc

When I look at the website front page, there is little box in the upper right w/ a pic of a QR code that says "Link Your 3DS." It's right beneath login/register.

I click that and it brings me to a step by step explanation on how to do it, but it doesnt provide me with either a numeric or qr code.Do you have a Square Enix online account? You need to make onf first and login if I recall. Looks like the site is down right now though, at least for me.
You need to go to the top of the page where it says register and then do that. Then stay logged in and click on the Link Account thing with the QR code picture. Now the 2nd step of the instructions will include a usable QR code and a number underneath it that you could alternatively type in. If you have even more trouble the forums on the heroes of ruin website, which you would be on, have threads to help instruct users who have trouble linking.

If you are logged in the the 2nd step should still be the same, but the QR code in the picture of step 2 will have changed. You can now scan that code. And directly below the QR code is a number which you could type into your 3DS instead of scanning the QR code. So log out and look at it, then log in and look at it. The QR code should now have changed from a generic one to one you can use.
Online multiplayer is great, but the game is bland, generic and boring.Rod90
Somehow I knew you would pop your head in to say something negative. The game is not boring, the combat is great. It's not generic, great story and four different classes with unique skill trees. This is a landmark 3DS title, appreciate it. Sound like you're just echoing the reviews.
Well, everybody has there own opinions. Imo, this game is great. Probably has one of the best online experiences of any 3DS game to date. Can you get through the hole game simply by pressing the b button over and over? Yes, but, imo, using the other attacks available leads to a more varied game play experience which can make the combat feel fresher longer, and more enjoyable even; again imo. My only two real gripes against this game is the fact that they don't have male and female options for any of the classes (i.e: a female character option being available for the Vindicator, Gunslinger, Savage and a male character option being available for the Alchitect) and that there should be even more skils available then there already are.

I thik some of the boss battles, not all, require more than just mashing the b button. I agree that the skill trees could be more fleshed out. But I think one of the biggest omissions is the lack of multiple difficulty levels. With how easy the game is, more difficulties or the option to do a new game plus on a harder difficulty would be a welcome addition.

No, I'm judging by the demo.[QUOTE="dsrules13"][QUOTE="Rod90"]Online multiplayer is great, but the game is bland, generic and boring.Rod90

No, I'm judging by the demo.Oh well you really shouldn't do that. I wasn't thrilled with the demo either.

No, I'm judging by the demo. Wow. You can't even form an accurate opinion on how good the online play is in the demo, as you can't use the chat function, which is beyond impressive. Not to mention the fact that you only have access to the smallest fraction of the available skills for two of the four classes.[QUOTE="Rod90"][QUOTE="dsrules13"]No, I'm judging by the demo. Wow. Then again, my opinion about online is even more significative, cause even if I couldnt use all of its features, I still thought it was great. :)Somehow I knew you would pop your head in to say something negative. And a demo is of course only a small fraction of the game, and the business goal of demos is to convince potential users of buying new software.
For example, I don't need a demo of Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, cause I'm certain I'm going to buy it. A demo of Luigi's Mansion has no purpose in a costumer like me, cause I will buy the game anyway. That's what's important about the Heroes of Ruin demo. The people working behind it used resources to create a demo to try to convince people who are on the fence on buying the game and to let people know about the software if they are not aware of its release.
That's why, JUDGING ONLY BY MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE DEMO, I said it was boring.
What, do you want me to buy the game just to confirm "Yes, I indeed don't like this game at all".:?
What, do you want me to buy the game just to confirm "Yes, I indeed don't like this game at all".:?Rod90I would expect you'd at least play the full version, whether in a game shop or by rental, before making such firm opinions of a product's quality. Hell, I was disappointed by the demo, and I was one of those consumers you mentioned that the demo wasn't aimed at.
It reminded me of the original gauntlet game back in the 80s, which was awesome, many moons ago. It's good that the genre is still alive is some form, but it's not my cup of tea these days.
I did like the demo, but it's not worthy of a purchase for me.

I don't know, you just might really enjoy it. I mean, while I did enjoy the Demo, I thought I would get bored of the game rather quickly, but once I bought the game, I found the game was much better then I originally thought, and much more enjoyable too. But what ever, I guess if you don't enjoy hack and slash games then you probably won't enjoy this either.

Im having the same problem. I checked the forums on the offical site and it seems to be a common problem, but n-space hasnt responded with a solution that works yet. I want this fixed fast, or atleast give us credit for all our previous stats once it is fixed.
