The Max Media Player can play music, but it is a piece of junk. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to talk about the better ways of running movies or videos on the DS in this forum...

Nintendo have two official players: the Nintendo MP3 player which is only released in Europe and Play Yan Micro who also plays MP4 video, only released in Japan. This is the only official ways to play music on the DS.

Actually, Datel's Max Media Player is also LEGAL.

Datel's Max Media Player = A cheap knockoff of a freeware application, with many bugs, although quality is ok.
Nintendo MP3 Player = Official Nintendo MP3 player, plays MP3's, not very well though, and it sticks out.
Play Yan Micro = MP3's play ok, video is terrible.
