So, I dug out my old DS to play some Phantom Hourglass download play and I simply can't believe how dark the old screen was! I can't even play it! How did they get by with releasing a system with such a poorly lit screen? I realize that everything is relative and I must have enjoyed playing on my old DS enough to purchase a DS lite, but dang!

Yeah, my mom rubs that in a lot... She has a pink DS Lite... I'm just waiting for the blue DS Lite to come to America! But yeah, ignorance is bliss... I'm use to my DS's dark screen, so as long as I don't get use to a Lite's screen, I'm fine. Except when I'm playing in the car... It's impossible to see the screen in that case.

One of the reasons we got the DS lite was the screen brightness. Everything gets better with time.

Are they actually going to release the blue one here? I'm stuck with plain old white for now as I didn't have the patience to wait for the others. I really want the new red/black one but I don't think my wife will go for me having 3 DS's. I'm too nostalgic to trade in my old ones. I don't think EB/Gamestop gives much for the old DS in trade-in anyway.

My friend has the red and black one, it has a yellowish tinge to the bottom screen. traded it back in and same thing.

I think they are useing a diffrent screen material that gives it off.

yeah, it really is crazy. i mean, i remember having to hold my gbc/gba at certain angles to catch the sunlight through windows in order to play. and then at night, you'd HAVE to have the lights on. I never had a problem with the original DS' light, but I was blown away by the ds lite's brightness. If i was forced to, i could go back, but i love how bright the screens are. Absolutely no problem seeing the game.

I have t he orginal DS atm and though I've only seen the Ds lite in action on one occasion I can say that it is MUCH brighter than my (launch) DS. On the o ther hand I turned on an SP the other day and realized just how dark and grey it made everyhing, though the SP wasn't technically backlit. And yes I also remember before that when I had to play my older gameboys by the window in the morning sun in order to see the screen. Handhelds have come a long way lol.

I still have the old one, but I'm fine with it. What I couldn't stand was on the old old gameboys how there was no light at all.

..and HUGE! My old school game boy is bigger than my DS and has one tiny screen. I can't believe how primitive that thing was!

I broke out my old Game Boy a few months back to get some Mario Land 2 going. After about ten minutes of sitting, reflecting direct sunlight from the screen (I could hardly even see) into my eyes I broke out the Super Game Boy. Cabbage, throw up and, grey are terrible colors for games.

I upgraded from a GBA about 5 months ago so I'm not complaining. It's bright enough for me.

its because uve been using lite too much. if you spend time actually playing it then you would get used to it, then it will be bright again. but if you think thats too dark, try the darker setting. NOBODY IN THE WORLD can see that.

Yup, the DS Lite screen is very nice and bright. I honestly like it at its lowest setting to save battery life and becuase I mostly play it in the dark. But having the ability to make it higher is nice too. Since sometimes when I'm in the car and trying to play I can't see it without it being in the highest setting.

So ya, bright is much better.
