I'm so sick and tired of people complaining about the graphics!,what's so horrible about them?

sure, they're not as good as the PS3 or Xbox360, but they are not actually bad.

gameplay comes first,right?

so, do they really bother you?(to PS3 and wii owners)

I'm happy to say that I don't care much about graphics. As long as they're good enough to clearly see what's going on I'm happy. Gameplay does come first, but story is a very close second, so there better be a good one.

As a PS3 owner, it doesn't bother me at all. I thought the graphics for games like Mario Galaxy, SSBB and Twilight Princess were great.

But then again it's probably because I play on a standard def. so I'm not picky about graphics. Things may be different if I had a HD tv or something, but I doubt it. I've never really stressed amazing graphics as long as the gameplay is entertaining.

I agree with you. If I were a graphic whore I would've bought the PS3. For me its enough if a Banana looks like a Banana and a Dog looks like a Dog.

Denying the fact that the graphics are ugly to todays standards isn't going to get you anywhere, really nothing is (If we are talking trolls/fanboy/idiots). I own all the consoles currently, and frequently play all of them. I enjoy the wii from time to time, but the graphics are really far behind obviously. It can have effects on how people play, but there are games where I don't care as much (NMH for example).

I'm guessing people are upset because they wanted next gen graphics, but they aren't getting it. But you know, you paid $250 for the system, and you got what you paid for, just enjoy it.

I won't play a game for it's graphics. If it's fun and has good multiplayer I'll play it.

(Xbox 360 Owner) No, graphics for Wii don't bother me. Wouldn't call them horrible but for real they aren't as good as the 360 & PS3.

I like the colorful vibrant art directions of a lot of the games (MK Wii, Mario Galaxy), the only time I complain is when devs say the game will look like a 360 and PS3 game.

But there are times when graphics take from gameplay. If you deny that, you are probably a liar. People who bring up NES are like bu bu bu, castlevania III was fun, and its on the NES. Well duh, but its a classic, and its a classic for a reason.

I'm willing to bet you liked Goldeneye, because it was fun and had good graphics for its time, but go back and play it today. I'm willing to bet it'll burn your eyes. There are some who can still play it and have fun though. :-\ I don't really understand how though.

Yeah I gotta agree with you about everything you said in this thread. Despite the facts that I don't mind graphics that the Wii offers, I can't deny that graphics are a big step in the advancement of videogames.

Problem is that even thought the PS3 can run in 1080p (or 1080i) a lot of the games don't, it's only a handful. And the Wii not feeling the need to upgrade doesn't help graphic progression in videogames.

Yeah, I liked Goldeneye. But if my friends still played it I would. None of them would play games like that anymore (Goldeneye & Perfect Dark). Just recently a month ago in high school we was playing Super Mario Kart & NBA Jam... on the computers. I dunno why they rather play Super Mario Kart & NBA Jam regardless of the N64 games on there but whatever makes them happy, right?

Graphics don't mean much to me but I will admit that when I see a game with amazing graphics (like Gears of War) I do give it a lot of attention. But it all just boils down to gameplay. If a game looks great but plays terrible then there really isn't a point.

It depends on the game really. Obvious Zack and Wiki and Warioware don't need graphics to be cool. It would have been nice to see Metroid Prime 3, Mario Kart, F-zero (when it comes out would have looked pretty sweet with 256 bit graphics. Is that even the number we are at now. I know Wii, Xbox 1, PS2, and GC are 128. Pilotwings and Wave Race would have also benefited from the graphics upgrade. In birdman's levels all you do is fly around and take pictures and to have great graphics with that would have been cool. Then again we never had a 128 bit pilotwings on GC like we were supposed to either.

In conclusion Racing games, Adventure Games, and games that tell a story would be most beneficial with graphic upgrades. Party games, sports games, and other short play time per round type games don't need it as much. Fighting games definitely need it. Nintendo doesn't really have any of those though.

That new creatures game with the spider and the scorpion could have used it.

Yes graphics still matter, but not in every type of game.

That just makes me cringe. Why not think for yourself, and if you like a game play it regardless of what your "friends" think?

I'd said it a million times, but graphics and gameplay go hand in hand. One shouldn't detract from the other. I grew up on the real classics (early '80s arcade games and 8-bit consoles), and while cutting edge graphics are nice they aren't a huge requirement to me. But I also think Nintendo "fans" let developers off the hook by using the "gameplay is all that matters" crutch to rationalize away the Wii's graphic deficiencies. Of course good gameplay matters, but no one said that good graphics and good gameplay are mutually exclusive.

Here's a recent example - check out this console comparison video of Top Spin 3. The graphical difference between the Wii and PS3/360 versions is visually jarring. Not only that, but the gameplay actually appears smoother on the PS3/360. Can Wii motion controls alone bridge that gap? I only have a Wii, but I'm hoping so.

I don't know. I like playing with friends more rather than by myself. I hate forcing people to play a game that they don't want to because it's hopeless. I tend to get bored if I play games by myself. Whenever I buy a game I always first check if the game has multiplayer. I have always been the kind of gamer that plays multiplayer games. Playing with friends changes the experience, in my opinion. I'm just that kind of person that likes playing with friends more.

depends. i do expect a certain standard from wii. ninjabread man, for example, is completly and utterly unaccpetable from a visual and technical perspective....it looks like a poor N64 title. i also expect a smooth framerate. the town in no more heros is unacceptable for example imho (as well as suffering from performance problems...some things like the car models and textures are broderline criminal. the GTA3 cars look better on the PS2. luckily the rest of the game is great enough to make up for it but still....we should expect better)

i expect good, clean and visually appealing graphics...like galaxy, or RE4, or okami. it can also be 2D...i dont demand 3d but it has to be nice looking 2D.

agreed. i dont think any one was expecting PS3 or 360 level graphics from the Wii but i was sure expecting more than i have yet to see. iff all the games looked as good as MP3 or SMG i would not complain but for a next gen system i prefer better than last gen graphics period. now if that upsets fanboys then to bad. i will keep voiceing my opinion as much as i choose to. do i love ninty. yes i to have been a gamer sence the old days. cut my teeth on pacman, fliped over NES SMB/duck hunt. Was wowed by final fight on the SNES. Loved FF3/6 and crono trigger ect. so im hardly some n00b kid who wants just cool graphics BUT i dont NOT want kool graphics lol. IMHO we should have both. The wii is caple of pulling of some good looking games. just play threw MP3. Thay dont have to be in HD.

Im kinda bummed out cause sure, graphics arent everything but does that mean that they have to make some half made game with basic control an throw it at us??

I didnt buy the wii for is graphics but this doesnt the game shouldnt be pretty.

Pretty=mario galaxy, the graphics are great for what its meant to be

not so pretty=red steel, the graphics are very basic and,in this kind of game, graphics matter.

It's not as simple as bad graphics.

A more powerful system allows you to have have better physics (gameplay opritunities, combat system, and of course a bigger and more detailed environment.

Even so, those factors are all dependant on the type of game. There are games, like Oblivion, that would be nothing without its enormous environments. Its absolutely crucial, but enormous stages in something like Zack and Wiki would be a complete hassle. Physics is another matter as well, in games that thrive on realism like Crysis and Half-Life, it makes sense to have everything react as it would in real life, but I don't need gravity in a game where stuff isn't meant to fly everywhere and I have no ability to jump. Heck, MGS4 has a rather weak physics engine because it isn't entirely necessary and its one of the most technologically games available. Turn based RPGs, for example, have no need for a realistic physics engine.

Very true. However zack and wiki can be played on the 360/PS3 but Oblivion can't be played on the Wii. Zack and Wiki of course needs it's controls as much as Oblivion needs its horsepower but there are plenty of other Wii games that would benefit from cutting the Wii controls and gaining the horsepower.

Yeah I seriously dont see the problem. Im using my Wii right now for the Internet Channel annd the graphics are just as good as a hi-def computer I think so yeah. And anyways, some of the games on Wii have surpassed some of Ps3/360's games in terms of graphics.

I agree with the TC: enough with the graphics quarrels already. Nintendo should put a warning label on all Wii boxes:

"This console is not made for graphical excellence, but to offer great, innovative and never seen before gameplay. Live with these facts. Please don't flood gaming websites forums with pointless threads about Wii graphics"

That would work.

Graphics are important, just like any other aspect of game development. That being said, I think the Wii's visuals are just fine for what Nintendo was trying to accomplish, and some of the upcoming games look like they'll make a statement that the Wii can hold its own.

I have my Wii hooked up to an HD tv without the component cables and some games do look very jagged and blurry. I still don't really mind. By the way, nice sig, love QotSA.

I haven't played anything on the 360 that couldn't be done in lower resolution on the Wii, there's all this talk of sophisticated AI, physics and game engines but it's all bull since nothing thus far is a step beyond what we had last gen.

caring too much about graphics is like being with a girlfriend and only watching her for her looks only and shes a total beeotch

but you gotta care about the gameplay

for me wii the is like comparing it to a girl who is pretty not gorgeous and is a nice person because the graphics arent crap per say but they are good enough to satisfy and gameplay is like personality

Falconclan: "Im guessing people are upset because they wanted next gen graphics, but they aren't getting it. But you know, you paid $250 for the system, and you got what you paid for, just enjoy it".

to me, graphics don't really matter as long as I can tell what's going on and the gameplay is fun.

But, you can easily tell that some people (That own Wii's) wish the system had close to 360/PS3 graphics and some Wii games do come close (Check Godzilla: Unleashed for example). Graphics really aren't anything but attention grabbers (More of a finishing touch), I even stop and watch when a game has amazing graphics but I look deeper than Graphics, if the game has great graphics it catches my attention but I check to see if the gameplay looks worth playing because there are alot of new games that have awesome graphics but gameplay is just terrible (HAZE & LAIR for Example).

If you want to see proof that alot of Wii owners care about graphics, check out the many threads on THE CONDUIT and you'll see how Graphics have grabbed most of the people that own wii's and have at an earlier time said that graphics aren't everything, yet they are raving that the Conduit and Call Of Duty 5 has awesome graphics, which they do, but notice how hardly any of them are talking about the gameplay. There are a few that mention gameplay, but most of them are talking about graphics and that it's a game built from the ground up for the Wii.

Obviously I own a Wii and a PS3 but after buying a specific extra gory 1 on 1 fighting game (That I won't mention) that had sucked me in because of it's awesome graphics, then once I played it, I lost interest in the franchise from then on, except for one adventure game that was awesome because it had awesome gameplay, I gotta see gameplay before even considering buying a game, no matter how good the game looks.

Please take threads involving multiple systems to System Wars. They are off-topic here and on the other system-specific boards. Thanks.
