VB: Sega is also going after the core audience with games like House of the Dead: Overkill and Mad World. How are consumers responding to those Mature-rated titles?

SR: House of the Dead has done very well and has absolutely met our expectations. The first set of data for Mad World is very encouraging, as well.

VB: Do you see franchise potential for Mad World with sequels?

SR: If it resonates with the audience, yes, we absolutely want to make that into a franchise. I think it's unique, and there are many aspects of that game which are sort of pushing boundaries. And it's just great fun.

---

Good news for those who want more of these franchises and overall, want more 'core', 'mature' titles.

Glady SEGA is happy with their performance.

Good news. I'm sure the sales will go up by the end of the year. I still need to get me either of those.

Great news but I wouldn't really call MadWorld unique like they did. It's basically Godhand with black and white cell-shaded graphics.

EDIT: Don't take the wrong way but I don't think HoTD:OK was that expensive to develop so I don't think it was that hard to reach a happy sales mark :P

Games like Madworld and HotD: O will encourage publishers to make more hardcore games. If you do not support games like this you will see less of them.

House of the Dead is doing well

Madworld on the other hand is doing terrible. Of course he can't come out and say it's doing terrible because that probably means he gets a call so he says that it's coming along.

I don't think any game for the Wii would be that expensive to develope.Especially compared to the other 2 systems.

Companies aren't smart if they don't try to utilize that.

uglyhippos

Except that it was made from the same crew who presented Godhand, and given even more financial backing by a bigger company than before.

So this is more or less the sequel to Godhand with that story writer from Final Fantasy Tactics thrown in.

Does Clover still get to be unique when they are Platinum?

Good, this very good my guess is that Madworld will make anyware from 350,000 to 500,000 in sold copies with in a year and House of the Dead: Overkill especially after an initial price cut go from 300,000 to around 750,000 to nearly a million copies worldwide. In the case of House of the Dead I figure $30.00 is still the sweet spot price for the genre, yet I heard it sold just under 200,000 copies worlwide despite the higher price tag.

i have to comment on the onrail thingy that some people dont understand.ON rail shooting was a great arcade experience, one worth going to the arcades for, getting out of the house, and paying for the play. Why?because consoles with their traditional controsl couldnt emulate it, its horrible to play on rails on analog sticks. Not because is a bad genre.its as respectable as strong as any.But they were not properly doable before wii. So now wii comes, it offers the arcade experience. Some players like to downplay On rails games because my ps2 didnt have it.It didnt have it because they would have sucked, not because A:its a bad genre. B:it wouldnt sell. Because they sell well and they are really fun(good genre). Is just the fact it only works well on wii that make some people upset and try to downgrade the genre.

Stupid Game Stop.

I went sunday to pick up HOTD: 2 & 3 for twnety bucks. Due to Game Stop's policy of taking the games out of the package, the clerk had to go back and get the disk and put it in the box. When I got home and put the disk in, I realized that Game Stop had screwed up andgave me an Overkill disc instead. Needless to say, I am pleased.

Stupid Game Stop.

Different sales expectations are there for different companies. Even if the game isn't a million seller, SEGA could fully be happy with it because of how little it might have cost to make the game and how much profit they are making.

I know what you mean, I bought it for $54.99 and it dropped to $39.99 a couple weeks after. Oh well it was worth the money I spent anyways so I'm not too upset. Anyways good news on the sales front. I was worried about MadWorld especially after the recent price drops in Canada and Europe. I'd like to buy Overkill too but $60 is too much for a rail shooter.

He does not understand that its all about profit and expectations, not what people on these forums sees as a success. People on these forums always think a million is the only way to success. Both games have a high chance of gaining a cult following.

Agreed, only the publisher like Sega can know how much those games cost and how much they need to sell to make a profit. That's regardless of what VG Charts or NPD says, since the most accurate statement one can make on sales numbers and how well it sells is the game publisher.

Yes and you don't understand what PR is

Sega has Madworld ads on all the time in North America and Europe and they can barely sell ten thousand here and can't even meet that overseas

Madworld is doing worse then anyone expected.

For some reason people are listening to Sega's PR guy making it seem like there's something we don't know.

Actually Jasonguy is right on this one.

If a game has met sales expectations and another one has "encouraging sales" then the later game isn't doing so well right now.

It's true that not all games need to sell 1 million and it's all about profit but if MadWorld was selling good and was profitable then they would have said the same thing about MadWorld as they did with HoTD: OK.

If they are happy with the sales then why do they use the word "Encouraging" instead of "have also met the sales expectations"? or will soon reach the sales expectations? "Encouraging" is something you use when you talk about a sick patient not a healthy one.

HotD had a month's head start over MadWorld. Consequently, if both are selling at the same rate, they will not meet sales expectations at the same time.

Since HotD met sales expectations within two months, and if MadWorld is selling at the same rate, they'd conclude that MadWorld will meet sales expectations the next month (i.e. within two months of its release), and would therefore say that its sales are encouraging, because it appears to be selling at the same rate as a game that has met its sales expectations within 2 months of release.

Expecting them to say the same thing about MadWorld as they do about HotD is equivalent to expecting that MadWorld sell two times as fast as HotD, and that is not realistic.

Madworld just came out when they anounced that, you do not know if it will do good because a game like this relies on legs. Vgchartz does not track online transactions like Amazon and Ebay, a game like Madworld with its cult status is going to get more attention from there than GameStop. Lets wait for NPD, because VGchartz struggles on weekly sales and lets wait for Sega because publishers usually don't try spinning sales as much as other news. Proof of that is Capcom. Sven is your friend.

Yes and you don't understand what PR is

Sega has Madworld ads on all the time in North America and Europe and they can barely sell ten thousand here and can't even meet that overseas

Madworld is doing worse then anyone expected.

For some reason people are listening to Sega's PR guy making it seem like there's something we don't know.

no they are not on all the time. And yes i watch alot of TV.
