how are MK ranks calculated for single player

I'd appreciate if someone could help, because there is not info in the manual or on-line about how the game calculates a rank when you are doing single player grand prix. For instance, when I get first place in all four races, sometimes I get Rank A, but sometimes I'm ranked with a gold star. Another time I got three first places and one 2nd place and was ranked "C".

I'd really like to know, because I know that to unlock certain things, I need to get all gold stars. I'm just wondering what it takes to do so. Thanks

You need to be fast and lucky.

Remember the key-point:

1. Do not drop the circuit. If you drop 1 time, your score must be under A~E.

2. Attack CPU more times will add more point.

3. Show more Air-Skill. (shake your wheel when in the air)

i think you can get more points for the ranking if you are able to pull off "come from way behind" wins

i had three of those on the last star i got...

Seriously!! I just got first in the special cup and came in first every race, I was mostly in the lead for all races, I did tricks off most jumps, and I still get rank C? Whats up with that?

Also, is it possible to get a rank of more than one gold star? I have gotten a couple gold stars now, but can't imaging what it takes to get 3 gold stars. Please help
