With all the hype surrounding Red Steel 2 I can't help but wonder how bad the first one really was. I never did play it, but I want to play Red Steel 2, so I'm thinking I should give the first one a go now, before it comes out. So should I, or is it that bad?

When playing the first one I would have these points where I would just start spinning around. I could not control my guy and was getting shot at.

The controls are rather clunky, and while the shooting action can be pretty fun, it gets a little dull after a while. You'd best invest money in something else.

The shooting parts are decent... it has a fun bullet-time mode that works pretty well. I never had any real trouble with the controls.... Just make sure to keep your remote pointed at the sensor bar the whole time. Going off the screen is what makes the view go nuts.

The sword parts are TERRIBLE, though. You just stand one on one with your opponent, and it's not fun at all, especially later in the game.

It would make for a decent rental if you're in the mood for something like that.

I once did a swap with my friend, his Red Steel for my Resident Evil 4: Wii Version. I played it briefly then never again. He later asked me if I wanted to trade for keeps. I laughed in his face.

It wasn't that bad. It took a while to get used to the controls, but the bad thing is is it felt like I had to get used to the conrols everytime I put on the game. The controls were it's downfall, everything else was fine. Red Steel 2 seems to improve on eveything from the last game though. It's easily my most anticipated Wii game, apart from Zelda of course.

You know what would have been a great addition to Red Steel 2? A reworking of the first game. Improve controls to RS2 standards, optimize graphics, and improve multiplayer. A small amount of effort would have made a huge difference and they could have packaged it with RS2. Farfetched I know, but it would have been interesting.

Bad. I bought it for $9 I haven't finished it because I don't want to. I honestly wish it had Metroid like control's, I'd be so happy. Also the sword fighting was.. bad.

Wouldn't waste the $$$ on it ...just wait for Red Steel 2 (hopefully a better game than the first)...its totally different story anyway.

it depends

the only horrible part (which isn't horrible) is the sword controls. I went in expecting (day 1 purchase) that the controls would be 1:1. You can only swipe your sword up, down, left, and right. And it's just swings, compared to RS2 videos... it sucks lol.

It's playable, but it just goes to show how inacurate the Wii remote was before M+

shooting mechanics are fine along with everyone else said

That is one of my complaints about the game. When the pointer leaves the screen by even an inch, your character will start spinning out of control making you an easy target to your enemies. And during the sword fights, your moves aren't sometimes registered exactly the way you moved which would make pulling off some combos you learn in the game difficult to do. If those issues were addressed, Red Steel would definitely be a great game to me, though it still had other problems besides those. I would say give it a try, but at your own risk. Maybe rent it if you can though for a few bucks more, you can probably buy it......

You're not missing much, this game fails almost in everything, though it has a lot of potential that hopefully RS2 will harness.

The controls are kind of clunky. It was funny when i played though because i hold the wiimote with my left, nunchuck with the right so it looked the guy's wrist was broken haha.

It is a launch game with clunky controls and didnt live up the the hype that the game had before it came out. Nevertheless, i enjoyed it and have replayed it a few times, just because it is entertaining even with its faults/glitches. But unless you're really looking for a cheap game, i wouldnt get it esp when the new one comes out this month, and there are much better shooters you can get.(even Onslaught the Wiiware game is worth $10 more then redsteel)

I have played it and it wasn't that bad. The controls of the sword fights were disappointing, but it was a pretty fun shooting a game. I'm glad I rented it though.

I thnk this game is over killed on complaints. It's not a great shooter but it is still a good game with a decent story. I think you can pick it up as a dual package with No More HEroes for like 20 bucks now. That is a deal. It seems like the 2nd one will have no relation to the first so if you don' pick it up you wont be loss. But I think for 10 bucks it's worth it. I would say rent it but for 2 bucks more you can own the game so why not buy it. It gets a lot of hate but you do have fun with the game.

If you must get a more typical first-person shooter, then get Modern Warfare Reflex, World at War, or the Conduit. If you've already played those and still crave for more FPS, get another console. There is absolutely no reason why you should suffer through such a mediocre games when there are tons and tons of better games out there.

It's pretty bad. It would be an acceptable game if the controls were at all playable. Seriously, if you have played MP3, The Conduit, or any FPS on the Wii that controls well, it is going to be REALLY hard to play Red Steel. Trust me, I tried it after playing MP3. SOOOOO terrible. The game looks pretty nice visually, actually, but it is really uneven as you will go from a place that looks great to a place that looks absolutely horrible. The voice acting is horrible as well. Sword fighting is frustrating.

The game is not as bad as most posters make it out to be. The gunplay is pretty good although the aiming is a little sluggish. The sword parts kind of do slow down the action which gets on my nerves because some of the firefights just give you a real adrenaline rush ( i dont want to post any spoilers). Swordfights are pretty easy too there is really only one one challenging sword duel imo and that is against a ninja towards the end of the game. Cutscenes are pretty lame, but I actually did like the story although it was ripped right out of the movies. The music/audio is pretty good. The graphics are not that bad either. There are some spots that should have had a little more polish, but then there are other parts that look pretty good. I bought the game for $20 bucks and I thought it was pretty decent. Nothing great, but nothing terrible either. I actually still play it from time to time. If only Ubisoft made a real sequel to this game. There is so much potential!

The music is, actually, very good. I think they did a really good job with the soundtrack.

I am currently building a time machine so I can go back and tell the developers, distributors, and Nintendo these exact words,

"I have come from the year 2010 to warn you that Red Steel is going to suck so bad that if it reaches even 100 thousand sales the force of its suckage will begin exponentially tearing the Earth apart from each of their households with a strenght beyond that of a black hole. Just skip the first one and move onto a Western/Samurai steampunked cell shaded version and everything will be finarghhhhhh its pulling apart the space time conti"

And that's how I feel basically.

It would've been so much more enjoyable if they fixed the swordplay (hell it was so bad, they could've just removed it and no one would've cared) and made the aiming controls exactly like Metroid Prime 3's (on "advanced" sensitivity).

I originally bought this game when I first bought my wii cause it looked so cool and it had alot of hipe, but the controls were kinda bad but still managable, I mean they got in the way sometimes but not as bad as some make it out to be. but really I wouldn't take the time really to buy it if its just so that you can catch up on things. its not worth the time and money to me...

But if you think that you really want to buy it I have seen at some of the gamestops that i have gone to, they have this in a package deal, you get redsteel and no more heros for $30... at least you would be getting and ok game and an awesome one. ^_^

to its credit, it was a very ambitous game. sword play, motion based gesture recognition, a FPS with a new control system and getting to grips with a new console. but it was too much to get right for a launch title so its ideas are not implemented well. if the dev just focused on making a great shooter and sword fighter and left the other stuff for a sequal then i think it would have been much better game. if you can get it cheap hen its worth a go...just to see what could have been. but i wouldnt pay over 15 quid for it personally (though i did pay full price at launch :P).
