Monster Hunter Tri is awesome. MadWorld is also really cheap new and it's an awesome action game imo. And Mario Galaxy games.

Do I need a Cable?

Suicide-Panda

Yes. Component cables.

They look like this:

Once you got them hooked up, go to your Wii config menu, chance the aspect ratio to 16:9 and the resolution to HDTV/EDTV (480p).

Here's how the image quality will change:

Component:

There are several third party component cables for the Wii. I've had a MadCatz set for a year or something and they've delivered the goods. If you want to buy the official Nintendo ones, that's cool too, but they are more expensive.

best accessories are the wii zapper, wii motion plus. you could also get a battery charging station if you want. the games i would recommend are mostly nintendo produced like mario metroid and zelda. I suggest getting both mario galaxies, new super mario broszelda twilight princess and metroid prime trilogy. Super smash bros brawl is an awesome game to get too. you could also download games from the wii shop channel which will get you great classics from all the previous nintendo systems and others. I suggest you get the classic controller and a gamecube controller to have a better experience with some games. and to improve the resolution of the wii get the official nintendo HD cables. i dont know if monster hunter is a good game or not.

im sure other GS users will help you out more cause i dont have time to write anymore

If you like arcade like gameplay, replay value, multiplayer, accessiblilty, easy to learn hard to master philosophy in games then you can't go wrong with titles such as New Super Mario Brothers Wii, SSBB,Monster Hunter Tri, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Sin & Punshment 2, Mario Kart Wii and the Wii Sports Resort. Make sure you rent the "hardcore" Wii games to prevent buyers remorse since some of those games value presentation over longevity. ie: No More Heroes 2, Madworld, Red Steel 2, Fragile. These are my values. Some may not agree but that's what opinions are for. Use them how you see fit in order to make the best decisions for you. Happy gaming.

I should be getting my component cables in the next day or so. I have no problem with the visuals of Wii games, but I am looking forward to getting rid of the blur that the Wii has on my HDTV.

If your TV has component inputs, you should get the component cable. If you want to download a lot of SNES games, you should get a classic controller. Any other accessory is unneeded.

Gamecube controller and Gamecube memory card if he wants to play Gamecube games. Plus, Wii Motion Plus for Zelda Wii or any other Motion Plus game he may want.

The Gamecube controller is also great for Nintendo 64 games.

WM+ and wii sport resort are a must. its worth it for the sword fighting alone. then pick up RS2. ok you could just pick up RS2 with WM+ if your not interested in WSR. MH3 is awsome...make sure to get the classic controller pro though (dont bother with a classic controller). ive only played 2 games on the wii where i think a normal controller is better...smash bros brawl and MH3. other accessories: get an SD card so you can download VC and wiiware stuff to it. keep the wii internal memory free for saves and such like. not essential (you can always delete and redownloads games from the store at no extra charge) but its handy. component cables are nice for clearing up the image on HD tellies. if you want to play gamecube games then you must get a gamecube controller and gamecube memory card. no, you cant use the classic controller for GC games and no you cant save GC saves to the wiis memory. the two are mandetory for GC play. besides that...make sure you get your wii online. if you want to use a wired connection then there is an accessory you can get to give you an ethernet port. the wii has wireless g built in though so if you have a wireless network then plonk in your security stuff and you should be good to go.
