So I've been playing Other M recently and, while it's not as bad as a lot of people said it was, coming from the Prime Trilogy to this, I can see why people where dissapointed.

So now I know a lot of you'll probably just say something along the lines of "give it back to Retro", but that responce aside, how do you think Nintendo could revive Metroid and make it be able to stand strong with the likes of Mario and Zelda.

IMO, Nintendo needs to try something new with the series, and not like how Retro did it where it was the same basic game as before, but with a 1st person view of the world, but rather change the genreof the series a bit. Metroid has always been one of the more mature Nintendo franshies so why not go all out and make a survival horror Metroid game, they can contain it to a single planet and have you collect upgrades so it still feels like Metroid, but also make the atmosphere and storyline, dark and scary. I could see this really work for Metroid.

I would hardly call metroid dead but.. i liked what team ninja were trying to do with other M and i would love to see them take another stab at it on the wiiu. just cut out all the crap story and cutscene nonsense and put the focus back more on exploration a bit and it could be a cracker. really try and capture that 2D metroid magic in a 3rd person action game. other M was a good idea that was just really badly executed.

It's not dead in terms of support from Nintendo, but sales of the series have been bad aside from Prime 1 and 3. Nintendo needs to do something new with the series to get more people interested in it again, and I think a survival horror game would be the perfect thing for the series.

lol revive? And the only Metroid game that sold really exceptionally well post Super was the first Prime game. Outside of that, Metroid has never been on the level of Mario and Zelda and never will be for a number of reasons. I thought Other M was great and a nice direction for the series, I guess they can go back to making Samus character-less to appease the whining audience and those who idiotically deem it the death of the franchise *cough*Jeremy Parish*cough*. But the gameplay was rock solid and it would be a step back to shed that.

Can you revive something that isn't dead? Last I knew, there were at least 2 games released for their current console.

Go back to Metroid Prime 1/2/Super Metroid and/or make a new Metroid that is unique though KEEPS exploration as a huge aspect. That is the biggest problem with Prime 3 and Other M.

just keep it simple. Next to no plot and as few characters as possible. Nintendo has demonstrated that they have no idea how to execute either of those things.

For the most part, I liked Other M. If they got rid of the wierd search until you find an object in first person to continue mechanic, the game would have been very good. I liked both the story and the cinematics from Other M.

I would also be OK with having another first person shooter type, but I would preffer that the bosses not take a thousand shots to kill. My hands start cramping up when fighting bosses in Coruption.

Make an FPS game with a fantastic story and campaign mode. Then create an addictive, competitve, and rewarding online multiplayer mode as well.

Pretty simple really.

I actually though other m was a pretty good direction after fusion. It's clear nintendo wants to go the fusion/other m rout and not the prime rout. They don't even consider the prime games part of the metroid main series.

Other m just needed a lot more back tracking (way to linear), a little less and better written dialog, and a lot btter pacing. Combat/controls/world was fine.

You got to use te hyper mode. Bosses drop like flies then.

My hand was so sore till I figured that out.

Probably by getting Retro back on the series and maybe retconning Samus's character, should they choose to have her speak again.

Double post

I think they need to rethink their marketing as well. The Other M advertisement was awful. It focused too much on Samus being an attractive blonde in a skin tight suit and it featured some live action cheesy cosplay-looking stuff. That's gonna turn away most people who aren't hardcore Metroid fans. I'm not saying it's right, that's just the way it is.

For the love of god no online multiplayer bs. Way too many games have it and 99% of it is tacked on garbage. I want exploration and back tracking with a huge world to explore and it better be longer then 15 hours. Metroid has always been about solitude and exploration not spawn kill die.

All it will take is Metroid Prime 4. It is that simple and that is not asking for much.

I've played metroid since the very first Nintendo. The first person mode was great, but too slow. If they could put it back into the first person mode but adding more intuitive controls but keeping it fast paced it would be awesome.

metroid is a thriving series. it has had 2 games on each of the last 2 gens and all 4 of them are great. Other M was a nice diversion from Prime series, and i loved the action based gameplay...but i admit i missed Primes exploration. well, that doesnt mean it was a bad game, and after getting 100%/0% i still enjoy playing it. i would like to see team ninja make another.

your enjoyment of Other M is irrelevant. The game was a total failure. Sakamoto turned a mass market hardcore franchise that sold millions of copies on a console with a small userbase to a niche franchise that couldn't even turn a profit on a console with a massive userbase. The writing and characters in Other M are abysmally bad, in a game where the focus was moved away from gameplay and onto the writing and characters. It is a fail on every count and the series is absolutely in need of reviving at this point. At the very least, they have to view Other M as a lesson on how not to do a Metroid game and Sakamoto should move onto different projects. I would suggest that he do a new IP.

Lol Metroid isn't dead, how do you revive something that isn't dead?? They have all been really fantastic games, even MoM was really good imo. They have sold decently also, = not dead.

What? How do you think the Prime series sold? It did not set the world ablaze, I'll put it to you like this; DKCR outsold the entire Prime trilogy combined. And Sakamoto made Super Metroid, you know that game called one of the greatest of all time, so I don't think people look down on what Sakamoto can do with Metroid.

People look down on what he did with Other M though, wasn't nearly as good as Super, or even Fusion.

Probably a new story arc? Also I prefer them reviving Kid Icarus more and hopefully Star Fox and Earthbound since they need it most.
