^topic.

Now I've just started playing Prime 1 but I have finished Echoes (don't ask, I ended up buying Echoes first).

So I just wanted to know why most of you at least like Metroid Prime 1 over Echoes? For me its still too early to make a judgment call, but I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts.

The bar always is higher for sequels. All three Metroid Prime games are superior in different areas.

Because Prime was better than Echoes.

Also, Metroid Prime was pretty much the definition of how to bring Metroid into 3D. Absolutely perfect.

i bought both Prime 1 and 2 on their respective release dates...I personally enjoyed them equally, but Echoes had much more meat than Prime 1.

Prime 1 holds so much praise because at the time of it's release, it was so shockingly good and surprising to everyone....when Echoes came out it was more of the same with new additions.

Prime 3 is incredible thus far (on 2nd world)...as good, if not better, than Prime 1 and 2.

The reason I liked MP1 over Echoes is because I (like many others) found the constant flip-flopping between light and Dark Worlds to be annoying. Another reason is the constant tracking of actual energy ammo and constantly tracking your health in the dark world. mp1 is much simpler and thus, much better

Probably which ever is your first 3D metroid is going to be the best. That, and the light dark crap got old as dirt fast.

Course MP3 pwns them both.

a lot of people didn't like the Light/Dark world....i LOVED it, made things a little more challenging (conserving ammo, staying in light area)....it was implemented as well as in LTTP.

Quite honestly I got bored with Prime. I got Echos as a Christmas gift and fell in love with it. I went back and played Prime and loved it! Echos was significantly harder and the swamp area drove me mad! The Dark World wasn't hard because the toxic atmosphere didn't really matter that much. All you had to do was stand in a crystal area and you're golden. In fact it got to a point where I went to the Dark World to restore health.

The purple dark world was drab no-mater where you entered it. It didn't have the same atmosphere as the light world did. Now if it had been like Twilight Princess where the dark world had limited visibility it would have been immaculate and would have scared the crap out of me. Anyway my one real gripe with the game was the boss fight where you got the boost ball. It wasn't hard it was just the toxic atmosphere actually did made a difference for once because there were no light cristals, and on top of that the nearest save station was about 15 minutes away from the boss and in the light world. That pissed me off to no end.

Everything ruled about Metroid Prime 1. Metroid Prime 2 feels like a sequel (it doesn't do much new, in other words), and because of that, Echoes just doesn't feel as mindblowing as Metroid Prime 1. It's an awesome sequel, though, and I love it.

Back tracking was a huge pain because of the light dark worlds which got old real fast

For me I liked them both equally. I personally fell in love with MP1 when i played through it and MP2 really kept up the standards. The level design was equally as good and the music was equally as good and the weapons and mvisors were great also yet different then MP1. What I liked about MP2 better was that the world was as LARGE as MP1 but with dark world, there was technically twice as much area to explore.

MP3 is my fave, but MP1 has the best XRAY mask out of all three. Notice no water area in MP3? (or so far anyways)

I personally like way more Prime I than II, why? well first because it was the first game and the change concept of FPA game thrilled me. Second because you have way more beams than in Prime II and the best part is that you don't have to go and recharge everyone of them, the whole search of them is cool and once you have them all is fantastic. Third, I didn't have to back track alot, something that in Prime II is so common and so frustrated. Fourth, I never got bored in Prime I, something that did happened on Prime II. Fith, I hated the whole concept of light and dark worlds, what is this? a Metroid game or a Zelda game??? come on.

Prime II was fun but not as fun as the first one, at least for me!

bingo, Echoes was intricate and beautifully contained...not as exciting as Metroid Prime 1 but it had everything that made the first one great, the entire game was basically one giant puzzle and can easily be compared to Majora's Mask in terms of fluctuation from the original

its because in prime 1 there is no ammo meaning infinite shooting and because in prime 2 thereis limited ammo and too much dark aether

you have to be resourceful with the ammo, it adds another layer to the shooting

The switching of beams still anoys me, the light/dark world doubled all the backtracking that had to be done, the toxic atmosphere really wasn't an issue because it did so little.

I think the biggest thing that I got annoyed with was having the only access points to switch worlds being forever apart. It was horrible to switch back and forth as much as you had to and if you follow the map of the wrong world you get where you need to be but in the wrong world and that was a big pain in the butt. Finally, the fetch quests for the keys further complicated the backtracking.

it was just too much running around and slowed the plot development to a point where I didn't care if the Ing took the whole thing!

I think prolly cuz people hated going to the dark world and back. To some I guess it made the back tracking more tedious... I liked Prime 2 alot more even though I love both. I liked echoes more simply cuz it has the screw attack which the first one didn't have. Plus I liked the theme and dark samus...

I think Retro suffered from the whole 'second album' thing. Prime 1 was just so much better than everybody expected that itwas impossible to suprise everyone in the same way second time round.
