Get a lens cleaning cloth! The sort you use for a digital camera...

Either Windex or isopropyl alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol). I'm not sure if the Windex is safe if you're not using a screen protector over the actual screen like I am.

It is preferable to use a lint-free cloth (the kind used to clean glasses, etc.). They should be easy to find.

If you want to go the extra mile, you could use the kind of spray used to clean LCD monitors.

I prefer the spit and wipe method, but a cloth and some cleaning solvent would probably be the best idea.

Some damp tissue paper works fine, though it still has to have enough form that it won't fall apart as you use it, just to moisten the screens mind you, and then wipe it off with a tea towel. Works for me when I get smudges on it that my shirt won't take care of.

I typically use the soft fabric tissue that comes with lenses you purchase at your Optical Lenses store.  Works wonders.

I'm thinking of grabbing a screen protector though, so as to avoid smudges and scratches in the first place.

I advise you to get a screen protecter, but using your shirt won't hurt!
