Is say it Mare-e-o unlike all the Ninty people.

I say Mar-e-oh
Mary-o sounds really weird to me -_-
I want to meet someone who pronounces it Marai-oh (like Mariah Carey) lol
a better question would be: do you say "ninja gaiden" correctly? the correct would be ninja "guy-den", but many people say ninja "gay-den" >.>BrunoBRSI say Guy-den
Another common mispronunciation is Ryu from Street Fighter.
A lot of people say Rye-you when it is actually Ree-you. (I say it both ways lol)
Mary-o isn't weird it is just the French pronunciation of Mario.MAR-e-o
Mary-o as well as any other variation sounds weird to me.

Neither of those are right.Another common mispronunciation is Ryu from Street Fighter.

In the correct Japanese pronunciation, the "R" makes a half-R, half-L sound (mixed together), and then the ri and yu sounds are also mixed together to form one syllable.
We can't type the proper way to speak it, because we don't have the L/R sound in English, but the closest we could get would be Lyu, with very little emphasis on the Y (making the word one syllable).
Actually, the best way to hear how it sounds is to listen to Ken or Ryu say "Shoryuken" in the game (just like your username, what a coincidence!). Split it up and the 3 parts are "sho-ryu-ken", when they say the "ryu" part, that's how to say it. Look it up on Google.
But only geeks and otaku say it like that. :o I just say "rye-you" because otherwise my friends won't know who I'm talking about.

just dont forget the japanese language does NOT have the "L" sound. hence why so many engrishes are caused by this.i've always said ryu correctly (or an accented version of it, that sounds sorta like hee-u, with a short "ee" and the "u" sounding like the "pull" "u"), but apparently the japanese and the portuguese pronunciations are really close to each other, so chances of screwing up when reading japanese words with ocidental characters are smaller for me :P
but the winning prize goes to people who read everybody's favorite console wrong:
"hey, i got a new console!"
"really? which one?"
"why"
"why what?"
"it's the name of the videogame, idiot"
"uuuh... *leaves*"
[QUOTE="randomwiiplayer"]Mary=Girl Mar-E-Oh is the correct way, Mary-Oh is incorrect.Cruse34
We're not talking about right or wrong here just how u it say
Ya except the way you say it is wrong. Mario himself pronounces it Mahr-ee-oh, and in Italian, the actual name is pronounced Mahr-ee-oh, so simply, Maer-ee-oh is wrong.I say Mar-e-o, the way it's supposed to be.
a better question would be: do you say "ninja gaiden" correctly? the correct would be ninja "guy-den", but many people say ninja "gay-den" >.>BrunoBRS
Ninja Guy-den, again, the way it's supposed to be

and Ree-you, but for me its always to talk about Ryu Hayabusa. I don't like SF :P
i mean just listen to MAR-e-o say his name on the game
"MAW-E-O!" would translate to MAR-E-O without the itanlian accent. definately not MARY-o
This guy hates it when people mispronounce Samus or Mario...

Mar-E-O PRIDE
That video is so messed up.
I say it as Mar-e-oh and there is no i or e in mario so how could anyone pronounce it as mair-ee-oh?
Polirath
when you said therre is no i in mario did you realize you typed in an i when typing mario?? i mean the name mario has come up so much in this thread that i would think you notice there is an i in the name.
Actually some people say it marry-oh so that could another option. Anyway, I say it like the majority, Mar-e-oh.
Well, technically, there's no contest here. It is supposed to be pronounced Mar-e-o, as is done by all the games, TV shows and *shudder* movies.
