How do you get friend codes from games?

I have pokemon diamond and i have no idea how to get my own friend code. I looked in the diamond manual but the menu they showed i couldnt find after talking to all the people in the poke center. Please help me.

You should be able to go downstairs in any Poke Center and the nearest woman you see should give it to you.
