I've had my wii since I was born with it..........errrrr....I mean bought it in 2007 :P
Some UK gamers buy an "AmeriWii" to import some NA games that they can't get in Europe, or have to wait a while for an EU release. Likewise, some NA and EU people buy "JapaWiis" to import Japanese games, but that's rarer I believe. Both of these instances are in addition to their country's Wii, so many people have more than one.

For me, just one. 2 months after launch.
i have yet to purchase a wii. i'll be getting one in febuary of 2010. i know it comes with hand motion controller. does it also come with a normal type controller? is that normal controller called a CLASSSIC controller? what is more user friendly? the classic controller, or the gamecube controller? i know its possible to play gamecube games on the wii, but will i need a gamecube memory card for saving these games? or can the wii card save these gamecube games?ayame_y_hotsume
You're a little confused about how the Wii works. The "normal" controller is the Wii Remote with Nunchuk attached. Thats your workhorse controller, meaning you will use that combination 90% of the time on Wii games. The Wii comes with one Wii Remote and one nunchuk. No word yet on whether MotionPlus will be included. Some Wii games will only utilize the Wii remote though.
The classic controller is like a SNES controller. It is mainly for games you download off the virtual console, although I believe some Wii retail games use it (very few though). It is not included.
Finally we have the GCN controller. Really these are legacy. I believe you can buy them off Nintendo's website, and Gamestop has a proprietary line, but these are used mainly when playing GCN games (its your only option), you can use them to play Virtual Console games too. And some retail Wii games use them, when motion isn't a main part of the game. The two biggest games that have GCN controller option are Mario Kart Wii, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
You will need a GCN memory card to save GCN game information on the Wii. When playing a GCN game on the Wii, the Wii literally becomes a GCN and acts identical to it.
Insofar as the best controllers go thats a matter of opinion. Here's mine. I use the Wii remote sideways for NES games. The classic controller for SNES games. The GCN controller for N64 and GCN games, and for Super Smash Bros Brawl. I use the Wii Wheel for Mario Kart, although I believe most people prefer the GCN controller for that game.
You'll find there's a ton of accessorizing that can be done with the Wii. You can use a USB Keyboard to type on the Internet Channel. There's the Wii Zapper, additional Wii Wheels, the Wii MotionPlus attachment (which comes included in the black Wii Remote), and the Balance Board Of course all of this accessorizing is optional, except for the Wii MotionPlus and Balance Board on games that require it.
If you want to utilize the full features of the Wii on the bear minimum requried, you need a Wii Remote, Nunchuk, MotionPlus, Balance Board, and GCN controller, wireless internet connection, and you can do everything the Wii can offer. All the other stuff is well, just stuff to buy to look cool, but boy do I feel so cool with it.
I have just one Wii, but after I get married next year and my soon-to-be-husband move into our new house (provided we actually find one we can afford) we'll have two. We'll need two because of our gaming habits.
One. My sister wants to get her own for Christmas (Because I don't let her use mine).

:D Wii is about family and friends, let her play with you. My sister isnt into games much but she still plays the occasional mario kart or mario bros with me.
Anyway, have one wii and got it in april 2007. Never broke and i hope it never will :D
One. And I own one 40" samsung television that I do everything with. If I want to sit down and watch anything, I'm going to actively persue it as an activity and enjoy it to the fullest. Hit the lights and get some snacks... put my feet up. I don't use my television all that much, similar to driving my old cars, so when I do, it's all about the experience.
A friend of mine had two nintendos back in the day, because he had two brothers and they were all tech geeks. Two televisions as well, but they were right next to eachother, placed in a shut off double fire place with a hoarde of games. I can sort of understand that, similar to an arcade.
I can also understand not letting your younger siblings trash your stuff, but there is a right way to share and keep it in good order. I'm the oldest of mine, but I would always share if they were truly interested. I believe that if you treat younger peers with respect and trust in things that they know you value, it gives them a sense of acceptance and chances are, they will respect you and your belongings more than covetting them. Case in point, I let my friends five year old kid pull down and play with some of my $100+ - figures from my 1980's transformers collection, because he is truly interested in them. His mom says that he terrorizes his toys and said that she has never seen him be so careful with anything, as when he is playing with and studying my toys. It's all about respect.
And you know what? They're just toys. If he trashed my megatron or something, yeah it would suck, but so what. I remember being all of four years old when they were out and seeing older kids with jobs that had all of them around who didn't trust me with them. It sucked. I'd never invite any kid into my home, looking like pee-wee's playhouse when you walked through the door and not let them check out my stuff.
And yes, the Wii doesn't just add fun with more players, it multiplies fun. I was in tears and my sides hurt from laughing after I first played the new Super Mario for three hours with four friends (5 people), switching one controller off every so often.
If you don't trust your sibling with the CD's, you should at least set it up for them and play with them.
