Well obviously some people are going to want more info before answering this question but based of the rumored specs and info we have so far I say anywhere from $250-300 is a reasonable price point.

It could be worth more but in order to stay competitive with the other hardware out now Nintendo can't be asking us to shell out to much. And I hope they learned their lesson to never sit back and let third party handle a systems launch. If 3rd parties want better sales on a Nintendo console ...... make better games and stop making bad ports.

I expect it to be $400 or higher. Newer hardware isn't cheap, and to think it would cost as much as the 360/ps3 with their really old hardware is not wise.

I will never pay more than $300 for a console, and even that is a stretch.

It really depends on the games. I'd imagine it'll launch at $300. It does have a touchscreen controller, but it's low resolution, and the system's hardware is basically on par with the PS3/360 and likely isn't all that expensive. But at the same time, I don't see Nintendo wanting to create the impression that the WiiU is a budget system, by pricing it lower than that. I don't see myself buying it until it drops to $200, at least.

assuming its just the console and controller in the box (and other bits and bobs like power supply) and the 1.5GB spec is spot on...around 300 is reasonable. if its super powerful or it has a game in the box and/or a wiimote+ and nunchuck as standard also then id pay a bit more. but 300 for the console and cotroller assuming the 1.5GB spec is true.

If it's going to compete with ps3 & 360 it'll have to be around $300

No more than $250 ~ $300. It's not that powerful compared to the 360 and PS3 and there's no point on buying 3rd party titles on the Wii U if you can play the same game on a cheaper console. Hopefully they learned from their mistake with overpricing the 3DS.

From what I have read, the Wii U will be quite a bit more powerful than the 360 and PS3. It is also said to be running on much newer hardware.

dude, if they pull themselves together and make an awesome system without the technological shortcomings the wii had, i would be glad to pay 500-600. of course they also need to release amazing games and get 3rd party support again.

so ya im gonna wait a few years to see how the wiiu does, check out its gaming library, see what microsoft and sony have to offer. and only then will i decide if i should pay for the wiiu

$300-$350 and $400 if the hardware really is a significant improvement but who am I kidding I'd pay up to $400 for any nintendo console.

I am going to enjoy and feed the rage among everywhere if Nintendo goes a Wii U price of $400 or more.

How do you expect to put a price on something without even knowing the hardware?

A max of £250($400) is all I'm willing to pay at the moment. Although if the lineup includes amazing exclusives then I'll have to bump that up to £300. The USA really has it easy with its prices :) £300 = $480.

Well, the wii u has a lot to prove at e3 2012 because right now many gamers(including myself) think that it is only slightly better. If they don't show any hardware features or software that show the power of the the system and they ask for more than $300 they are just shooting themselves in the other foot

The first foot was shot when they released 3ds with no major first party game because they wanted 3rd party to have the spotlight.

The resolution of a portable display isn't important at all, the major factor in judging a portable display's quality is its pixel density. And going by the feedback from everyone that's used the controller so far it has a high pixel density. There's very little difference in quality between the HDTV display at 1080p and the controller screen. As for the retail price of the U on launch day I can see it selling anywhere between 250-350 dollars/pounds given the high-end hardware, particularly the CPU. 250 would be the sweet spot imo.

I was talking more about its resolution determining its cost - 480p is fairly low resolution for a 6.5" screen, compared to a lot of cellphones and other portable devices, so it likely won't be all that expensive. It's also not a capacitive touch screen, which is cheaper too.

Resolution has nothing to do with it's cost. Forget about the resolution, it isn't important. You can have a display capable of displaying 852x480 pixels but it's pointless unless you have a high pixel density. With a pixel density high enough a resolution of half as much will look better than a display with a lower pixel density displaying an 852x480 resolution. With portable displays the pixel density determines how good the image looks. It isn't how many pixels on the screen that's important, it's how many pixels per inch that are important. And you won't get progressive scan on a portable display either, there's no point.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. The WiiU controller won't cost that much to produce, because of its low resolution and non-resistave screen. I'm just using that to estimate what they might charge for the system. It would be more, obviously, if the controller had a 720p screen. As for pixel density, it's acceptable, but not great. Pretty much every smartphone released in the past two or three years has a pixel density that exceeds 480p on a 6.5" screen (the original iPhone was almost 480p, and is about half the size of the WiiU controller). Also, the WiiU controller will be progressive scan - interlacing the image would be pointless on an LCD.

Erm no the hardware is not new its a Radeon 4800 gpu chip -> old ...quad core cpu is not new either. No higher than $400..Im expecting it to be around $350, higher than $400 would be a rip off

We don't know what series the U GPU is, we only know that it's a modern Radeon HD with multidisplay support...so it could be a 4000, 5000 or 6000 series. Even if it's only a 4870 that's a very powerful GPU that beats a great deal of 5000 series GPUs in terms of processing power. And he didn't say 'new', he said 'newer'. And whilst a quad core CPU isn't new, a Power7-based CPU is, the Power7 was only released in 2010. I don't think it will retail for as much as 400 but you've got to remember that the U is going to have high-end hardware and will end up being around 4 or 5 times more powerful than the PS3 and 360. It's going to be very interesting to see what sort of price Nintendo are going to decide on after they learnt a very important lesson with the 3DS.

If they were to market the system for $250, the same as the original Wii, that would be ideal. I doubt that's going to happen, though. $300 sounds more likely.

$250 CAD. The double-dip recession is coming, and I don't even have a PS3 yet. It is going to be rough for all of the big three if they price themselves out of the market. 599USD consoles will bankrupt anyone willing to try. And $300 has always been the magic number got consoles over the past few generations.
