well the technology other than the 3D screen isn't really anything new. the psp had similar graphics 6 years ago. so that shouldn't be a price killer. 3D screens can't be that expensive ._.I'm hearing rumors of $250-$300 :|

The top display costs about $25-$30. ok thanks. so the dsi got price cut in japan, add a 3D screen and it goes to normal price again. 170 and all of that stuff must be cheaper by now. Which leaves a decent chunk of money to put in all the small cheap things, like the one analog stick, the new sexy stylus, etc. I just have to agree with Kirby and stick with $199.99.I'm callling it: it will cost $229.99 at launch and will first be available to America on November 12, 2010, Japan on November 26 of 2010, and in Europe on Feburary 18th, 2011. Sorry Europe, you know you will get it later, sorry. :( Just my wild guess though lol.

yeah my guesses kinda follow nintendo pattern...on new consoles, like new generations, America has recently gotten it first, like ds and wii, and Japan gets it soon after, and Europe always gets it last. Im from America but I feel bad for the Europeans :/ They always get stuff last.

all it is is a ds with more power and 3d so it should cost over 200$,maybe 199.99$ if it really is different
I say $250. The PSP was $250 on launch day and that was in 2005. Just my thought.
Funny thing is that consumers will be dumb enough to purchase it no matter how much it turns out to be. If you just wait a little while you'll find better colors, better bundles (free game bundle), gift card offers, etc etc.
I don't find funny getting a console at launched. What do you call a little? What i find funny is ignorant people with the money who want a console and keep waiting up to 4 years for a price drop and then they keep babbling thinking they are more intelligent. I prefer getting the console i want the first or second year and start having fun and playing games than waiting 3 or more years like a loser having the money. It's been a long time and the DS has only keep increasing in price. Do people wait for the next iphones and ipods before getting one? LIFE CAN TAKE MANY TURNS. IT'S BETTER TO LIFE THE PRESENT THAN THE FUTURE.I say $250. The PSP was $250 on launch day and that was in 2005. Just my thought.

Well one thing for sure is that it's gonna be expensive... I'm thinking $250. And 3D games for it will be $5-$10 more expensive on average.

That is Sony though....they overprice everything like crazy. Nintendo wins by being innovative and cheap :) Sony took the original gameboy advance design, and put it on steroids. Not innovative ^_^I don't find funny getting a console at launched. What do you call a little? People should know by now how Nintendo operates. About 1 year down the line during Christmas you'll see new colors and possible gift card offers to get more people to buy it. I would take the plunge then (not 4 years later). By that time there will be more titles to choose from and the games will have dropped in prices. What i'm referring to are the consumers that ignore all this and then complain. I guarantee there will be threads on this about a year and half from now.[QUOTE="gokuofheaven"]That is Sony though....they overprice everything like crazy. I find it very funny, that all forum go'ers think it could be $250 to $300, despite everyone knowing the 3DS is built from cheap tech that is rather old, and that it only has one 3D screen, and Nintendo's usually cost cutting tendenacies apparently don't exist anymore even though they find a way to make every console affordable, and even though most of the gaming press think it will be $200, people just think it will be expensive. But it won't be more than $199 IMO.
At $199 it will definetly be sold at a healthy profit for Nintendo. I'd plan on saving $199

Well they can't be overpriced at launch, since Nintendo consoles typically (this last decade that is) have only be sold for roughly a 20% profit at launch
I mean the Wii cost $210 to make in 2006, so it launched for $250. Makes sense. Business is Business.
Video Game Consoles have always cost withing a certain range, heck $400 has been done before in Gaming. People should be new to this. I think the main reason people complain about console prices is coz gaming is a form of entertainment where there is a lot of overturn. A lot of people play games for a while and drop it, thinking they can pick it up like Movies or Books again easily. But its harder than that due to game prices and console prices.
Thats why you see Grand-Ma's come into gamestops and ask "how much is the PS2?" the clerk says "$99" and the grand-ma replies "are they going to make a cheaper one?" even though a lot of people think thats a terrific price for a great console.
Errr...tbh I really don't know how to convert $s to £s so for us in UK, Can someone state the expected price in pounds please. Thank you ;D

Not innovative ^_^ Eh are you a one of those fanboys? Actually Nintendo are the ones the overprice everything and this come from me a Nintendo fan for over 10 years. The Wii was way overpriced compare to the competition when it became available for $250 dollars. The PSP wasn't overprice a the time of launch, It came with a UMD with demos, a UMD copy of a spiderman movie, a pair of earphones, a memory stick (with very little space) and a case. WHAT ABOUT THE PRICE OF THE WII REMOTES? Remote = $40 + $20 Nunchuk = $60 + $ $20 Motion plus = $80 dollars. It easily can end costing like $229.99. In reality what people like you call new tech is not new tech and it doesn't matter is it is the newest thing a company can produce it still cost a lot of money to design and produce. They need to pay people to assemble then, they need equipments that ordinary people like you and me can't get and so on. People sometimes think that they are price gurus but they forget about the quality of the materials. Consoles drop in price and the quality of the materials too. I remember friends telling how less unreliable most PS2 Slims were compare to older models. At that time Sony changed the casing with a less quality one (cheaper plastic), the DVD drive with an old fashioned style CD player one and so on.I find it very funny, that all forum go'ers think it could be $250 to $300, despite everyone knowing the 3DS is built from cheap tech that is rather old, and that it only has one 3D screen, and Nintendo's usually cost cutting tendenacies apparently don't exist anymore even though they find a way to make every console affordable, and even though most of the gaming press think it will be $200, people just think it will be expensive. Don't buy it at launch. It took the Wii 4 years to arrive in black the same for the DS Lite, Gift cards are given by the stores not Nintendo and most of the times are limited. No one is obligating you to buy it dude.I'm guessing $199.99-$250 in terms of system pricing, and $39.99 for games. They've gotta keep the pricing around the rumors if they want to beat whatever PSP Sony is coming up with (maybe we'll get lucky and they're next handheld is a repackage of the PSPGo :) ). Nintendo will also have to keep the price down if they're going to charge us for the rumored 3G connectivity. It's going to sell like hot cakes anyways. I'd be willing to pay $300 if they did go through with some sort of 3G and we didn't have to pay monthly or yearly.

1. Why would Nintendo give it an Odd price like $229?
2. I'm saying its cheap to make, its looking cheap to make, i'm guessing it will be sold at a 20% profit since most Nintendo consoles the last few years have been sold at that for profit at launch
3. The Wii cost $210 after manufacturing, licensing issues, and what not from what i understand, so they sold it for only $40 more, roughly 20-25% profit on each unit. Everything in the 3DS that we know of is looking towards around $130-$160 to manufacture, depending on varying costs like licensing fees, but $199 is very likely as it gives them potentially $60 or $40 of profit per unit
I don't think I ever called it "new tech". The fact that the tech is so old and cheap will only help the price be lower. Heck this is based off old GameCube tech then its 10 year old tech, It wouldn't surprise me if it barely cost Nintendo $100 to make a 3DS they know how to make an affordable console.
I've never really thought the consoles I've bought were overpriced. Companies sell stuff at a product, so long as it isn't grossly sold at a huge profit like 500% than i'm happy

Dude why don't you go to the system wars tread? Do you work at Nintendo? Do you Assemble the thing? Just because it was invented or the tech was available years ago doesn't means it cost $100 dollars or less to produce. Everything available is made using tech invented years before becoming available, even PC GPU's. The Gameboy Color was priced at $79.99 until the Gameboy Advance was launched for $99.99. The DS Lite was launched $30 dollars higher selling at $129.99. Since then it has only increased in price to $169.99 for the DSi and $189.99 for the XL. If you don't want then don't get it. Maybe you can call some sort of company to see if you can get the tech you want and create your own portable. I wouldn't go to SW because this thread is about the 3DS.
2. Why do I get the feeling you think I don't agree with the 3DS's potential prices? You're saying they are over priced, i'm saying they aren't that simple to call over priced. (Well you said Nintendo consoles are over priced) I would pay up to $300 for a 3DS, but I believe it will not exceed $199, Nintendo already saw that the DSi's price point is pretty much near the ceiling for portable consoles as far as consumers go.
3. I get it. I'm saying yes they use old tech that is cheap. Doesn't mean the console will be cheap. Just because it might cost $100 to make a 3DS, doesn't mean Nintendo won't charge $299 for it, thus earning a profit that is 3 times the size of the initial cost. But I just don't think they will make the 3DS more than $199, and evidence like the costs of the items inside the 3DS point at a possible $100-$160 per unit cost. I don't know this for certain. Of course not. I'm basing it off the costs of similar items. Like how a 8GB iPod Touch costs apple roughly $150, even though it has a much more powerful CPU than the 3DS, more RAM than in the 3DS (more than likely) and a multi-touch screen, among many other items that the 3DS will not have. Just an example. Not the best example, but still a decent example
You seem to be getting worked up over our discussion, why is that? Am I misinterpreting something?
Well I'm saving up too! I need a new DS DESPERATLY! So instead of getting a DSi now I'll just get a 3DS! But I only saved up 20$:?
$189.99? Do you know the current DSXL cost $189.99? It is most likely to cost $199.99 to $229.99 not more than that.Hopefully $189.99

Well I don't think it's very intelligent to buy consoles at launch time except for the unusual situation of being very rich. Of course it's better to wait until at least the biggest teething troubles have been solved. Let's look, for example, at the 360: The slim version maybe is the first version that really works and yet people still have to wait to see what other buyers will report about it; for example if there still are major problems like RRoD, etc. Fully living in the present is as foolish as in the future; it should be a good mixture of both since you're a thinking living being thus being able to plan ahead which contrasts people in this society from animals. Please Log In to post.
