heyy, im currently creating a documentary about the above topic ^^^ and was wondering if anyone would like to talk about how they believe video games have changed or are seen to the public nowadays compared to say 10 years ago?

including content (story,Violence,Music, voice acting, talent,) etc. also if they are more immersive and reasons for this?

sales? do you believe video games have overtaken dvd, cinema and music sales ?

do you have family or girlfriends that wouldnt of touched video games years ago but now play? and reasons for this change?

your input would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks, Sean

one thing I've noticed is that all it took for a game to be good a while ago was to have it simple yet fun and addictive. Nowadays, it seems like even Pac Man needs a level up system with a super deep gameplay mechanic in order to be considered a real game.

it doesn't sound like you've played the new pac-man DX game.

when I was five the only video games I had were mario 64 and pokemon stadium. now I like more violent games, like FPS.

I don´t really have any family members that play videogames.

I find it interesting that you say "family or girlfriends" therefore assuming that all gamers and/or all the people on this site are guys

I've been a gamer since I was 5 and gaming has never really been just a form of entertainment for me, it's a part of my life. And as for my family, my mom and dad have been playing since I was 5 as well but not really that often, my mom more then my dad and I supose it is a bit more now then back then but still not much, also a couple of years ago my sister got addicted to The Sims 2 so she plays games a lot more now then she ever used to.

I would definitely say that there are more violent video games now then there was 10 years ago, and as for the talent I think that for the most part video game designers have gotten more creative. I'm not sure about the sales though but I'd guess that video games is the number one seller for entertainment.

10 years ago, video games where nerdy. since the post PS2/xbox/halo/GTA era...everyone plays video games. nintendo has always been for eveyone, well xbobx and ps are for all 15-35 year olds. i personally think lots of "hardcore" games like COD and Halo are too easy when compared to the Quakes and Halflife's of old. a video game used to be about gameplay and challenge where now a games focuses more on story and graphics. look at heavy rain...great story, graphics but no gampley. but mario has always been gameplay above all else. also this is going to get shut down...better system wars topic.

nope I havent. I was using that as an example though. Stating that most people nowadays don't think that a simple game can be fun. Also stating in order for a game to be considered fun now, it must have a 5 star cast doing the voice work, the company has to have never made a bad game in their history of game developing, compelling and riveting storyline, a gameplay system that allows the game to never get repetitive, some way for the game to be finished and patched once released & a coop story mode. A while ago, all you needed was a high score to beat and for the game to be fun.

i have been gaming for over 20 years and truthfully said with in the last 10 years gaming really hasn't changed that much. as i see it games have always been violent they just added in a lot of blood, and cuss words. music has gotten a more orchestra then 10 years ago but some companies had them then as for family/ girlfriends it depends i have dated girls that liked games as much as i did so it didn't effect as much, and my dad use to play a lot but now its just wow, or civ
