Mid 2012, most likely. I mean, look at retailers at the moment - Best Buy, Target, and others are all offering insane deals on an already discounted 3DS. Right now it's $170 with a free $50 gift card, so an unofficial $120 price point. Many of the same retailers are also offering buy one get one 50% off or buy two get one free on all new 3DS games (including Ocarina of Time, Mario 3D Land, and Mario Kart). I realize that it's the holiday season, but these price drops and promotions are almost ridiculously low and reek of them trying to dump stock. And I'm sure Nintendo knows they need to get a version out there with a wider viewing area, better battery, and a second analog stick. They say they have no plans, but we all know what that means.DJ_Lae
where can I get the 3dds for 170 with 50 gift card? I do not see this on the best buy site.
nevrmind I found it looks like im getting a 3d ds this week which store has buy one get one game half off?

I'd think a leveled poster like you would know this is ordinary You can find a $25-$100 gift card with 360, PS3, Wii, DS all the time for many years. Its a way to get gamer traffic to stores that normally don't get a lot of gamer traffic, hence why those deals are more rare at GameStop. This means nothing whatsoever.bonesawisready5More recently, yeah, there have been more of these gift card promotions, but they've generally been used to push older models of hardware (smaller hard drive PS3s, older Wii bundles, last year's Christmas 360 packs, etc) or shortly before a price drop. I remember a huge crop of gift card promotions for the 3DS (as well as that unofficial, pre-pricedrop price drop in Canada at $200) less than a month before Nintendo announced a price drop, and similar things happened with the PS3 this year not long before they announced an official $50 price drop. It's particularly bizarre to have a gift card of $50 offered on a paltry $170 purchase. I got $50 with my $300 PS3 earlier in the year, which was a bit more in line (and at EB Games of all places). And weider still when coupled with all of the bogo-style 3DS game offers. You've got the gift card deal to attract customers, you don't really need to sucker them in with cheap games as well, especially when the margins on them aren't exactly huge to begin with. I'm sticking with mid 2012 as the latest for an announcement of the revised 3DS hardware. Maybe I'm crazy, but that's okay. :P

Yeah I agree if anything this is to boost holiday sales.

I know HEB Plus here in Texas had 3DS units for $99 on BF but this was for certain reasons 1. HEB is known for overstocking electronics. They still have the OG MacBook (the one replaced by the MacBook Air, which had 2GB RAM for $999 for years) on sale, and every HEB Plus you walk into here in Texas has numerous Final Fantasy 13 Super Elite 360 Bundles that were $400 now for $230. Also, retailers still haven't quite gotten the sales data from the 3DS post-price drop. So, they've logically taken a tepid approach and decided to put deals on them because it will take months (just barely starting now) to get rid of the negative stigma the $250 price tag brought with it.Im hoping never, because unless the new verson has something so great such as tv output or the ability to take SD cards larger than 32 gigs, I wont get one.
Edit***
Also, mods, maybe a "Predict when a new 3DS model will be released" sticky topic should be made. Because I sware, it seems like atleast once every few weeks, an identical topic to this one and all the others is made.
That's a good idea. With SD cards above 32GB, a system update is more likely, even then we're a long way off from having 64GB-128GB SD cards be affordable for consumers.Im hoping never, because unless the new verson has something so great such as tv output or the ability to take SD cards larger than 32 gigs, I wont get one.

Knowing Nintendo, I think its possible to see a 3DS lite or 3DSi or equivalent as early as next year

yeah. enough of this, WEN NU 3DS COM OWT U GUYZ
DS Phat 2004- DS Lite 2006 DS Lite 2006-DSi 2009 GBA-2001, GBA SP-2003 GBA SP-2003, GB Micro-2005 GB-1989, GBColor-1998 Just because they released the DSi and XL so close doesn't mean there won't be a 2 year gap or more between 3DS units.Knowing Nintendo, I think its possible to see a 3DS lite or 3DSi or equivalent as early as next year

To be fair, knowing Nintendo, there will never be a reason to put even a 32GB card into a 3DS.Im hoping never, because unless the new verson has something so great such as tv output or the ability to take SD cards larger than 32 gigs, I wont get one.

[QUOTE="Gamingclone"]To be fair, knowing Nintendo, there will never be a reason to put even a 32GB card into a 3DS. Well seeing as Let's Golf is about 200MB, and the MH 3G demo is 169MB, I'm sure eventually it would be needed if someone didn't want to clean out the fridge, ever. But it does seem unnessecary.Im hoping never, because unless the new verson has something so great such as tv output or the ability to take SD cards larger than 32 gigs, I wont get one.

There are absolutely no plans for a new 3DS model as of now. Anything being said on the internet or here is pure speculation. If you do want a new model, you might have to wait longer than usual or not wait long at all, no one knows.

Maybe I'm crazy, but that's okay. :P You isolate a handful of situations when there is 2-3 consoles every week with a $25-$100 gift card. This has no bearing on anything at all. The 360 just sold 1.5 million units in America, so why are there still $25-$50 gift cards on the $200-$400 SKUs? iPod Touches get $25-$50 gift cards all the time, and the iPod Nano's, even cheaper than the 3DS, almost always have a $10-$25 card too. They're just trying to push stock, its coincidence that it happens before price drops and new bundles, because if they had any bearing on them we'd have new bundles every week.
My guess is it will be available for Chirstmas 2013. I am not sure if it will come out in spring 2013 or fall but it will be available Christmas 2013 one way or the other. That is just my guess of course and it is based on aimless speculation. Please repeat it elsewhere as if it was factual.

Gift card promotions in general aren't very common up here, which is part of the reason they stick out so much to me. I still think the 3DS will get a revision sooner than later, of course. Even if the gift cards aren't a good indication, the market share and sales of the iPhone/iPod/iPad and App Store will ensure that Nintendo needs to remain competitive. Which will be good for all of us (except the early adopters who paid $250).

Which will be good for all of us (except the early adopters who paid $250). Why compare a different market to Nintendo's handheld game console market share? You wouldn't compare the market share between Flash games like Farmville and how much people spend on actual PC games would you? The 3DS is selling 1-1.5 million units a month, why on earth would that be bad by any means? Nintendo actually is going to hit their 16 million estimated 3DS systems sold by the one year mark. Right now you can get a PS3 for $100 when you buy the $500 PS 3DTV, there is a $75 gift card with the $400 360 Kinect bundle, The Kinect Sensor on its own is $50 off, and you can get a $20 gift card with a Wii. Why would the 3DS deal stand out at all? Oh, and btw that is just Best Buy's ad this week, similar ads with many free cards can be found at Toys R Us, and Wal-Mart, and Target. This is just how it is every week in the USA. It is not an indication of anything.
i have 5 3DS games right now and no 3DS. Im trying to hold out till the next model. I don't want to get the base model and deal with all the add ons.

must have gotten a good deal on the games, it will be a while before a new model comes out. I went to target to get the deal today I got a 3d ds with mario kart I will play it this weekend as I did not have time tonight, target was crazy looked like black friday in there today.
Why on earth would you do that? It will likely be 2013 before that model comes out? People need to stop expecting a new model every year, Nintendo did that ONCE. They usually put at least 2 years or more in between models. Even then, the 3DS is selling super well, at DS Lite levels. The DS Phat got its redesign coz sales were slow, and when the DS Lite sales took off it was 3 years until the next redesign. Don't wait, take the plunge. Or sell the games. They'll be collecting dust for at least another 13-18 months.i have 5 3DS games right now and no 3DS. Im trying to hold out till the next model. It shouldn't feel that way. Plenty of good games that play fine without it, and its not required. It just feels wrong to buy a 3DS without that 2nd Joystick built in. Nintendo made a big mistake leaving that out.

Im pretty sure its just a typo but, its a 3DS, not a 3d ds :P
But anyway, nice choice with getting Mario kart 7.
Not very soon. Reggie said as much. It's too early anyway; it hasn't even been a year. The 3DS is already the same size as the DS Lite, there is no room for the second analog stick on a console the size and arrangement of a 3DS, so it's an addon, and it has the cameras that the DSi had. The DSi XL sucked (with a hideous big stylus), so I really hope Nintendo don't make a 3DS XL.
