I never played the original version of Tales of the Abyss, but I picked up the 3DS version as soon as I could and I love it. The 3D effect in the game is garbage, but aside from that everything else is great.
As for Kingdom Hearts, ehh, I personally hate it (and this is from someone who, apart from this game, loves the series), the addition of TWEWY characters didn't do it any favors (can't stand that game), but my real problem is movement/combat, because you do this weird sliding/glide thing where you seem to have very little control over Sora and it just breaks the game badly.
Kingdom Hearts 3D is pretty good,through the story has gotten pretty silly. The command deck is still a good system to use and with the additions of the flow motion and especially the Dream Eater, 3D probably has the best gameplay in the series yet.
I initially thought highly of KH3D, but I couldn't even stay interested enough to finish it. By the second world I was bored. It doesn't have the same charm I remember from the original.
Tales of Abyss on 3DS is better than ps2 version. Ps2 version lagged a lot (on the overworld) and had long load times because of the ps2's power limitations. its much more playable on the 3ds. Still havent beaten it yet because im lazy but i got much further in the 3DS version.
im a big KH fanboy, but i really enjoyed it on the 3DS, the story was fairly good and it actually had an impact on the overall storyline instead of some of the side prequels/sequels we've been getting on the handhelds. I also liked the dream eater or whatever things that fight with you and that you could collect and fuse more together... kind of gave me a shin megami tensei feel that i quite enjoyed. :p
Kingdom Hearts is one of the most overrated franchises ever. I went to a lot of trouble to finally play a couple of them after hearing so many good things.... a bunch of shallow button-mashing action games... bleh.
I haven't played any KH after the 1st, but tales is good on the 3ds, didn't play it on the ps3 but I have to say it seems like a nice port and I doubt the ps2 graphics were much different if anything. Like someone else said though, the 3d effect sucks in that game

can you still get it for the ps2? anyway, get it for the 3ds, it loads faster. Dont use the 3D though, its basically just the text floating over some semi 3D characters. kinda awkward.
I absolutely LOVED Kingdom Hearts 3D :) Although admittedly it isn't as charming as the other games in the series and it should have had more Disney worlds in it. The story is.....ok but I loved the combat and Flow Motion. I may be bias since I'm quite a fan of the series. Tales of the Abyss? Another excellent game for the 3DS. 3D is ok but nothing special. Story is amazing and it's a very long game. I can't say much more since I stopped playing; I should probably try to finish it when I have time :p
Is Tales of Abyss about the same as Tales of Symphonia or is there less humor and stuff in Tales of the Abyss?

there's about the same amount of humor. its your average jrpg story with your average jrpg jokes. Though i feel the characters are more annoying than symphonia's, i dont mind them that much anymore.
I felt like Kingdom Hearts for the 3DS was inferior in pretty much every way, as for Tales of Abyss...I guess you can say that it slightly improved on the PS2 version in every single way, so I guess opposites in terms of how well they did against their counterparts
I never played the PS2 version of Tales of the Abyss (only got a PS2 for the first time 2 weeks ago!). But TotA is amazing and my playthrough on 3DS made it one of my favorite games of all time. I usually prefer turn based RPGs and silent protagonists like SMT, but this game was amazing and it's totally worth your time and money.
KH on the other hand isn't a remake, but I've never been a huge fan of KH because they lack a concrete plot and they are just not my kind of games. Although I thouroughly enjoyed 358/2 Days, KH1, and CoM. I've played the demo for DDD though, and it seems incredibly kiddie. I would reccomend trying out the demo to see if you like it. But imo TotA>>>>>>KH. You will get a lot more gameplay out of TotA, and it has an unforgettable story.
