Once again, High Voltage Software (HVS), is being put to task in creating a licensed game: Iron Man 2. They must again, handle a licensed product with a small production window, budget, and creative restriction. HVS is handling the Wii version of Iron Man 2 which is a completely different game in terms of story, levels, and gameplay (and obviously graphics) from it's HD brethren. The HD version is being done by another studio. Let me be clear, this is not a port since it's a totally different game from the HD versions. However, even a ground up Wii effort can have many problems.
We've seen only a few snapshots of the game and no video footage, but from what I've seen so far...it doesn't look too good visually. Also, this game is using the almighty Quantum engine, but since this is a rushed project, Iron Man 2 will not make the most of it. The controls sound interesting, since we don't have too many Wii third person shooters. You walk (or in Iron Man's case, hover) around with the control stick and and aim with the remote.
There are only certain levels you can fly on (so you can not fly high in the sky at will, like the HD versions), and these flight levels are on-rail affairs...but in a good way. The flight sections are similar to Sin and Punishment!!! At least there is one plus about this game, HVS!
So the early goings of this game is mixed, but I'm sure many of the problems will be due to working on a licensed game without enough creative freedom. Also, publishers give developers a small window of time to create a licensed game, so this game will not make the most of the Quantum engine.
Well at least no one can say HVS 'tricked us' and 'made false promises' with this game, as they haven't said much about this game to the public. It looks like they have kept their mouths shut on this game, and I can see why. This game comes out May 4th, if you plan on standing in the long lines for it! lol
