It's cool for Virtual Console games and stuff, but if you have a friend with a wireless setup you could take it to their house to download it.

As far as online gaming, the people that are into that stuff seem to be pretty convinced that it's going to be absolute garbage because it's not called "Xbox Live"... so I think you'll survive without.

All the new systems have online capabilities. You can't just not get any new systems because you won't be able to take advantage of that. The games are fun, and that's what I buy a game system for (can't speak for others, but yeah...). Definitely keep it. And, as I said, you can always get a Wii points card, take the Wii to a friend's house, and then download any games you want. You don't have to be online to play VC games, just to get them.

Also, I know there's some online instructions that can fool the Wii USB adapter to use your normal dial up, even though it is not encouraged. However, with the current service, if all you want is just VC, just borrow your friend's wireless.

If online game play becomes as important as it is to the Xbox, then the system is nothing without online. Judging by Nintendo's actions, however, I don't think online will be THAT important.

My provider just dropped all dial up and transfered to DSL for no extra cost. We already had it so we actually are paying less than we were two months ago. I would suggest hounding you provider or looking for other options on your own and presenting your findings to your parents. The market is much more competitive than people think.

Same thing happened to me except all i didnt have was a wireless router, I do have cable connection, so Im ok on that front. I'm actually buying a router next week. I hope it works out. Worst case Scenario is you wait it out because a majority of home have or will switch over to high speed internet in the ne t 2-3 years. Other tahn that I'd say to just keep pushing that you need faster internet to your parents.
