Yes, it is pretty annoying. It does seem like something they would make the Wii be able to do. I mean, even when it's being a Wii and not the gamecube hardware to play the games, it can recognise the controller and card, so why not?
Well, they probably don't think many people care (which is true) so they don't think it's worth putting time into to fix.
dude i just updated my wii. now when theres a gamecube disc inserted, it looks really stupid
its boxish, and theres white margins on the sides, making it look really lame.
i wish i didnt update :[
Sounds like you need to buy a GameCube.
No, seriously though, It's a little bothersome. I'm usually switching back to a Wii game when I'm done with Pikmin, anyway.

Oh so that was the update? I didn't understand it.
*puts GC game in Wii and checks*
[QUOTE="Litchie"]A GC doesn't know what a Wii controller is..jjr10
but it does! Brawl, VC games, Mario Kart Wii and RE4 all work with the gamecube controller. (I'm guessing you mean the other way around)

No, I didn't mean the other way around. When you put a GC disc in the Wii, the Wii "becomes" a GC. A GC doesn't know what a Wii controller is, which is why you can't do anything with the wiimote when the Wii is in "GC mode".
[QUOTE="ThePlothole"]When you insert a GCN game, the console switches to "GCN mode". It ceases to be a Wii as far as the operating system is concerned. (if you've ever run two operating systems on a computer, it's somewhat like that)Nachician
I hate that theory.
Nintendo has the worst backwards compatibility. You have to buy a GC controller, MC & you have to turn your wii into a GC. :(Jazunn
I think Nintendo has the best in backwards compatibility this gen. Sony discontinued every PS3 with backwards compatibility and Microsoft has emulation software and not all games are still compatible.

It's not a theory, it's fact

Yes, being the only console this generation that has 100% functionality with last gen titles is so awful, if only they could cut that number down to 75% or even 60% it'd be perfect.
The reason the Wii "becomes" a Gamecube is because it can't emulate Gamecube games because it's not powerful enough. That means just like Plotty stated the Wii "becomes" a Gamecube. That means that the Wiimote no longer works and the SD card cannot be used for saves.
I hate that I have to turn on the wiimote do skip the intro screen and click the disc channel. I also hate the fact there isn't a 'reset' for the GC. Why can't I hold a combo of 6 buttons or something to have it reset the Wii? If I switch GC games, I have to go back to the Wii menu and select the GC again. That's annoying.
But really, these are the dumbest annoyances ever... All gens up to this point have required me to walk to console to turn the thing off or change games. And really, how lazy are we that we can't walk 6 ft to push a button. How did people ever survive TV before remotes?!raahsnavj

That is great, 100% is very cool I agree on that... But having to buy 75$ of accessories to be backwards compatible is a huge turnoff.
Nintendos BC heavily favors those who already owned GC, forces them to keep all their GC cluter while at the same time discontinuing the accessories.
I'm sure it wouldn't had been a problem setting aside a part of the internal memory to act as a GC memory card. I am also sure if they had put in the effort they could have set up a proper controller option.
While the PS3 BC isn't perfect, all PSone games are supported & a lot of PS2 games are. They are all played using the packed in wireless PS3 controller.

Are you sure you can't save Gamecube games? Isn't there a memory card port under the cube controller slots?
EDIT: I just looked up pictures of the Wii and it does have memory card ports to save GC games....

Thats becuz Sony hasn't changed the layout of their controller(minus maybe 1-2 buttons) since the Playstation 1 days.. And yet they don't do complete BC.. Like was said, cancelling all models that support ps2 playback(gotta get people to buy ps3 games somehow).
