I hate this about the DS.

All your game saves are on the cartidges, not the hardware itself. Isn't the latter possible?

With the DSi, I guess in theory it might work for small games, but with the current models it isn't possible.

1. No

2. Why does it matter? The DS is disposable, they're bulletproof on the solid state card. Why would you want the game saves on the DS itself?

Nothing good comes out of the DS having its own internal memory, i mean, its going to be your DS and your game so why does it matter? You can only play a game if its in the game slot so you'll always have everything you need...

I would just like the ability to back up and download saves. Just recently I was forced to restart a game after spending 12 hours on it.

What happens if you break your DS beyond repair?
Once you get a new one, you don't have to start your game all over again.

What's wrong with that? That way you;ll be able to play your saved games no matter which system you put them in.

i agree with you if you think about people that rent too much (like me). but think of how many memory cards you would need, specially now with the DSware. besides, its better than carrying UMD discs around :|

What are you guys going on about? I just want to know if it's possible that Nintendo's next handheld won't force you to save onto a single cartridge. Like, maybe Nintendo has some sort of weird save-sharing policy I'm not aware of. I'm not asking if you think this system is better than PSP's (I don't think it is, and nothing can change my mind)

Prolly not. As far back as I can remember (which ain't too far ;) ) the ONLY Nintendo system w/ external saving is the GC. Ya, they might be STORED on the console itself, but usually no way to retrieve them w/o the game. Could be wrong... not thinking the clearest tonight. lol Nd

I see your point there. My dog chewed my pokemon Pearl game and the save feature was broken. I could still play the game but when I saved the game didn't really save so I had to keep restarting. I would look for a 3rd party accessory. I remember the gameboy color had a device that you put the game cart in, then put in the game boy and it literally stored all of your games in real-time (you could save, turn the game off then continue playing where you left off). I'm sure there is something like that for the DS. Or as a previous poster said, wait for the DSi.

There is some third party hardware out there that allows you to back up save games onto your PC through a USB to game card connection. Look up the range of Action Replay Max for DS/GBA. Theoretically you can then swap save games as you like. Hoping of course nothing happens to your battery backup in the process.

AR Max bricked my last DS Lite, and because it happened using "unlicensed third-party software" Nintendo refused to fix it under warranty. Careful, young padawan.

I see your perspective on the 12 hour-thing, but DS games are short and since you will buy so many of them, you'll have to carry around multiple memory cards. ANd , the DS isn't exactly unbreakable-it can take a hit but the internal memory will crash.
