I went to EB to replace my DS lite since the hinge cracked. They gave me another since I had the warranty, and I went on my way. I got home and carefuly applied my $10 Ouendan-proof Hori screen protectors and turned it on. It was great. Everything was wonderful until I closed it. I opened it up again, and for about a second, there was this horrible mess of discolored pixels all over the left ide of the screen, and then it went away and the top screen flickered.

I returned it and got another, wasing 10 dollars on the protectors I put on. I turn it on in the store and It looks great. I bring it home, pop in Pheonix Wrightn and start to play. When the screen goes black, I see this horrible yellow stuck pixel! And also I noticed the infamous yelowish bottom screen. What should I do? I wanna bring it back, but its a long drive to EB, and I'm not sure they'll replace my replacement...again. And does the stuck pixel go away if hold it up to those flashing light or something like that? Or is that only for computers?

Don't go back to EB Games. Call Nintendo directly or go to their website and setup a schedule to repair your DS. You will be a few days without it, but they usually fix all the problems with it. Make sure your DS is still under warranty though.

You dont know the half of what its like having bad luck with Nintendo DS's. I had to go through 17 NDS's in order to get one without a dead pixel or some other kind of problem. I even wrote nintendo on the 8th ds, becuase i was fed up, and they just said "we will forward the email...blah blah" I have Every single searl number and recipt from all those Nintendo DS's just so i can remember the long nights of exchanging and returning. Bad luck.....pshh, you dont know the half of it.

My advice to you is this. Never buy from EB or gamestop. Buy from circuit city because they have a 100% satisfaction gaurantee and you can even get your money back if you end up not finding one. When i went to gamestop the lady told me it had to have at least 10 dead pixels in order to return it, so i ended up not buying one there. You eventually find one. After 17 mine is still not perfect. It makes a really louch crack sound when I open it, but it has no dead pixels and no yellow screen. If i were you i would return that piece of you know what back, until your satisfied.

Good luck on your long journey.

UPDATE: I think the stuck pixel is really a speck of dust under the touch screen. I'm not sure if the clerk guy would let something so trivial justify a new replacement. Or if he had an eye for detail enough to even notice something is wrong or not. And the EB is pretty far away and my mom already is mad at EB, and Nintendo for making fauty products and stuff about the first time, so I think she would get ticked and go over to EB, and make me browse through 50 lites or something until I find the right one. I dont know if I should just put up with it or what. Is the dust under the screen and the yellowish tinted bottom screen a big enough deal to warrant another trip and frustration?

So you're saying you had 17 NDS's with no dead pixels and no other problems and you weren't satisfied with any of them..

You know you simply could have mistreated the first one and broke it, problem solved.

In regards to my first post, here is the first letter i sent to nintendo after receiving 8 defective nintendo Ds's:

To Whom It May Concern:

I have purchased eight (8) different Nintendo DS Lites. Of those, five (5) of them from circuitcity and three (3) of them from target. All of them were the "onyx black" colored. Of those 8 Nintendo DS Lite's all of them had one (1) or more dead pixels. Initially, I had purchased one at circuitcity In Lancaster CA, due to a dead pixel I exchanged it at the same circuitcity. I went back to long beach, where I found another dead pixel and returned it to the Circuit City in Lakewood. I exchanged it a total of four (4) times until on the fifth Nintendo DS Lite, where I returned it for my money and went to target. I then purchased another Onyx DS Lite, with another dead pixel. I exchanged it for another and bought an extra one believing that if I buy two, ONE HAS TO WORK. To my dismay, both had at least one bad pixel, and thus returned them for my money. Here are the serial numbers for all of the Nintendo DS Lites I have purchased and returned in chronological order as written on each receipt from April 6, 2007 to April 13, 2007 and the last ones returned on April 14, 2007:

CircuitCity Lancaster, CA

-UG1207003xx

-UG1205854xx

CircuitCity Lakewood, CA

-UG1225686xx

-UG1225698xx

-UG1225702xx

Target Lakewood, CA

-UG4398597xx

-UG4398596xx

-UG4398577xx

I have included all the serial numbers in order to prove the sincerity and seriousness of my issue. I would like to know where I could purchase a Nintendo DS Lite with absolutely NO dead pixels, because I have become increasingly stressed about finding a perfect one. Also, I would like to know if there was a defective batch with more Nintendo DS Lites than average containing an abnormal number of dead pixels in the previous week or so that may have been the cause for my excessive misfortune.

Thank you for your time,

Carlos Robles

Here is there reply:

"Hello,

I appreciate your taking the time to share your comments with us in regard to the Nintendo DS systems you have purchased.  Rest assured that your e-mail will be forwarded on to the appropriate department for further review.

In a small number of Nintendo DS screens, consumers may notice a tiny, discolored (usually white or red) dot.  This discoloration occurs when a particular pixel (the smallest image-forming unit of the screen) remains stuck on a single color.

Even with the high standard of quality set by LCD manufacturers, this situation is common to many LCD devices (PC monitors, televisions, cell phones, etc.), and is within LCD manufacturers' specifications.  It's important to understand that this problem will remain limited to the pixels you have already noticed.  You won't see the problem spread to other areas of the screen.

You will likely notice that during game play that a discolored pixel does not stand out, but fades into the graphics of the game.  However, if it truly affects your ability to play, please remember that the Nintendo DS does carry a one-year warranty. We are happy to inspect and, if necessary, fix your system at no charge within the warranty period.

For warranty repair information, please visit the Customer Service section of our web site at www.nintendo.com.  Below is the direct address to our Customer Service area:

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/

Once there, select the Nintendo DS icon, then scroll down to Repairs and follow the directions.  Most likely, your system's serial number was registered electronically by the retailer at the time of purchase.  To view your system's warranty information, please check the following web page:

https://www.nintendo.com/cpp/repairs/warrantyLookup.do

If you need additional assistance, please contact Nintendo's Consumer Service Department by calling 1-800-255-3700.  Representatives are available to set up your repair between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time, seven days a week.

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.
Andi Anderson"

And i never heard from them since.

P.S: I x'ed out the last 2 digits of each sereial number, incase they are still tied to my credit card or something.

Tell them that nintendo has a 1 dead pixel policy and that you called nintendo and they told you that they must uphold said policy. If they say that they still cannot exchange it and you must send it to nintendo, tell them that nintendo told you they will not accept the product until the the stores return policy has expired.

If i were you i would return it, dont let the man bring you down!

I got my DS Lite at launch day, absolutely no problems (besides the yellow-tint touch screen, top half only for some weird reason) until a month ago when I finally got the dreaded hinge crack. Sent it in hoping for a new unit, got a "new" unit in the form of a remanufactured unit.

Too bad the replacement's L trigger didn't work. So I call up Nintendo and they set me up with an Advanced Replacement program. What is this? Basically I get a new DS Lite sent to me with a full year's worth of warranty from the day they ship the unit, which was today.

The moral of the story: call Nintendo.

I went to EB to replace my DS lite since the hinge cracked. They gave me another since I had the warranty, and I went on my way. I got home and carefuly applied my $10 Ouendan-proof Hori screen protectors and turned it on. It was great. Everything was wonderful until I closed it. I opened it up again, and for about a second, there was this horrible mess of discolored pixels all over the left side of the screen, and then it went away and the top screen flickered.

I returned it and got another, wasting 10 dollars on the protectors I put on.

I got a DS Lite from Gamestop and have no problems with it. I think that you should take the DS Lite and send it to Nintendo if Gamestop doesn't take it back. Buy a DS from another store other than Gamestop if you continue getting a defective DS from them. Was the DS Lite brandnew or was it used? My mom bought four DS Lites from Targer last year around Thanksgiving and they haven't failed on us yet. Good luck on finding a DS Lite that doesn't turn out to be defective.

My first DS fell down the stairs and the hinges snapped apart. My second DS was a Lite. The left shoulder button would not work, so I removed the button, and then all of a sudden it wouldn't turn on. My latest DS had the same problem two months of owning it, but I invented the Lysol method (PM me about it, it works wonders on stuck controllers) which fixed it for good after a few days.

My girlfriend's DS Lite has a dead pixel on the top screen, and it is red. It was her Christmas present, and I offered to ge her a new one, but she said the pixel didn't bother her.

bump UPDATE! I went to EB again, and they said they would replace it. Only this time I got a black one 'cause they were out of white ones. I love my black one, and it has no faults or anything. The screen is smoother too. Also for you black lite owners, I heard that scratches show up more on the black ones. Is this true? .
