I liked it and I had never played final fantasy either until it. The gameplay is old school and of course it is an rpg, so if that is what you are into then go for it.

I highly reccommend FFVI advance over FF3. It's an easier game, one of the greatest stories ever told in the final fantasy series. It still is an old school game like FF3 but not as level-grindingly tiresome as FF3. And if you just started playing FF games, then FFVI would be a good starting choice, imo.

Seconded. FF VI is the first RPG I ever played and I did fine with it. It's also the best RPG ever in my opinion. BTW nice sig and avatar combo, Brainhunter. :)

FF3 is just a standard RPG, but with a pretty bad storyline for today's standards. Very great game however, great graphics, maybe the best on the DS, and about 30 hours of gameplay without side quests. Brain Age is good and is pretty cheap now.
