Am I the only one who really wasn't that amazed and surprised by this console? When I'm anywhere close a gameshop I wanna go in there and get the thing so I can play Zelda and some Mario, also I'd download every 64 game in the VC immediately lol, but it doesn't feel worth it now that the Wii U is about half a year away...

The Wii is ridiculously cheap used, just buy one and a bunch of all the amazing games that are under 10 bucks by now.

Let me get this straight... you're not really amazed by the system, and yet, you find yourself resisting the urge to get one? :P I guess that's fair enough, though, in all seriousness. Even if the Wii is fairly inexpensive these days, it's still an investment.

Still, if you want another take on this, I say you can't go wrong with getting one. With the matter of the Wii U's price and release date still being up in the air, why wait to play games that you could be enjoying right now? With Mario, Zelda, and the VC games, it already looks like you have an idea as to what you want to play, so it's not like you'll be buying the Wii with no idea what you'll be doing with it. Plus, the Wii's library does have a few games that can be enjoyed if you open your mind a bit and search around.

Unless you have a really sensitive wallet these days, which I can very well understand, I still think it's a much safer bet to get the Wii now than wait on the unknown things about the Wii U to reveal itself later on. I doubt that you'll regret the decision to purchase the system, and plus, you'll have something to serve as a possible transitional point to the Wii U later on.

Wii is cheap now, WiiU won't be. If money is at all an issue then that should be considered.

When the Wii U is going to be way more expensive and there may not even end up being any games he wants for it..? Makes no sense

It does make sense in the fact that the Wii U will be BC. The title says he loves Nintendo, he mentions wanting Zelda and Mario, to me it makes sense that he would want the Wii U iterations of those franchises as well.

Can't be that big of a fan having 2 Zelda titles and 3 major mario titles go through without picking a wii up yet. I wouldn't have been able to do that - why I have a wii I guess. You've waited this long whats another X amount of months?

Or if $300 is no major loss and a justifiable purchase for you go pick yourself up the system and a handful of the great games you've missed out on this gen. Why are you making this decision harder than what it is?

You can get a $150 Wii bundle today, or wait 5-10 months and pay ~$350 for a Wii U which is backwards compatible with Wii.

If you have the kind of money required to purchase Wii U, wait. Thing is the games will be priced at $60 and you can find much cheaper Wii games today, so this is also important to consider.

If hes waited this long to get a Wii, I really highly doubt he's so big of a nintendo fan that he'd pay hundreds of dollars for a new console with few games to start with for cheap wii games, when he can get a cheap wii and tons of cheap games for it until he decides a wii u is worth having. Why pay 300-400 dollars to play wii games when hes waited this long already..

You have valid points. I guess I'm just saying what I would do. With the Wii U coming out so soon and having waited this long to get a Wii and games. To me, it makes more sense to put the money toward the newer system and pick up the older games at my leisure. Ultimately, it all depends on how the TC feels. I just think he would get more bang for his buck going with the new gen.

Haha I know exactly how you mean, I would do the exact same :P With how well Nintendo has handled the online and features on the 3DS, I'm ridiculously excited to see the Wii U.

Wow, I totally forgot I set up this topic today and just discovered there were several posts on it. Thinking someone might've misunderstood my post, I worried there would be some misconseptions in the other posts too, but you Peanut, you freakin nailed it, thanks bro.

Yeah so I've basically been busy a lot the last couple of years and really missed out on A LOT. Now that I got some free time I want to dive back into the Zelda franchise (mainly) among others. So, as Peanut described, it would seem more relevant and wallet-friendly to actually get the Wii U when it comes out, rather than spending money on the Wii (although it seems the wii u will support all controllers from the wii too :O :O :O :O :O :O WTH) as the Wii U will last me 6 years, considering when the next nintendo will be released not the day i'll throw out the wii u though :|

I just discovered while writing this that the controllers will also be compatible, does that mean they'll be cheaper or more expensive when the wii u comes out? So cheapest I found online, was a Wii for 120 bucks without controllers, incl controllers would be about 160 probably..............ugh decisions......

Well at least Peanut made me realize what I should do, and waiting is probably the best option considering I'll be saving hundreds of dollars, buying the wii now will probably just make me regret it later when i want ot get rid of it and there's basically no one who will want or need it....

Also, I just read it won't be backwards compatible with the GameCube, which means no Twilight Princess for me? You think they'd possibly make that available for VC or just remake it?

I think you should get the Wii and trade it in when the Wii U launches. Sure it probably wont even cover half of the Wii U's price, but atleast it will knock some of it off.

You're not the only one. The graphics are s*** compared to the other consoles that are out right now, and not to mention I hate the Nunchuck controllers. Personally I'd just wait for the Wii U or get a PS3 or Xbox. I just don't think it's worth the money for what you get

Even though I really don't care about the quality of the graphics as much as the actual gameplay and story and how much fun I have, it's true that Nintendo really has been without HD for a long time, but I admire that because they still outsold the other consoles, mainly for being one of the more fun consoles. I do have a PS3, but basically I'm just using it for Blu-ray and TV-web-surfing capabilities lol. Compared to the Wii, none other console comes close. I don't want to start some system war on this topic in this forum, but I'd like to mention that the top titles Uncharted and Halo come nowhere close to the epicness of the best Nintendo games, they're just hyped for their graphics and "amazingly lifelike and realistic feel when you play the games". It's like we're forced to liking games like COD and Battlefield. I have to say though, Metal Gear Solid 4 is a true masterpiece and it will most likely remain the best title of this generation on the considering the other consoles, that's the only game that even comes close to Zelda and Mario devineness..lol Back on topic, I'm planning on spending at least 500 bucks in the launch week, just on the Wii U, but I won't however, if not needed, purchase the tablet controller (the one with the screen and everything) cause mainly it's probably an added cost? Also I don't see myself using it as I prefer ordinary controllers (although the Wii-motes probably aren't that ordinary lol....at least they don't have a built in screen or camera. So yeah.....I'll just start saving :D

After I get the console I'll most likely have to get a wiimote plus too and an enhanced receiver for mye cotroller (I have a weird setup at home which I can't change due to certain circumstances).......so it'll be somewhat over 200 bucks, also it's so late.....thinking about spending 200 bucks on something I won't spend after half a year and on is just sad to me, lol.....

Get one, they are dirty cheap right now and tons of great games too! For 2 or 3 years you may be playing some of the best, more original and innovative games that had been shaping the industry or are, at least, great experiments Regards!

This sums it up for me too, the HD is a great add to this whole series of consoles without it, even though the competitive consoles this generation had it. Yeah, I'll most definitely be playing some games for a long time after I've purchased them, but the point I was trying to make was that it seems very unlikely that I'd ever use the Wii after getting the Wii U, since it basically does the same things as the Wii (excerpt for Gamecube support of course) and then some. BTW Earlier I asked if there's any hope there'd be a release on VC or a port of Twilight Princess, I think I meant to say the Wind Waker...the cartoony Zelda, that's the one I was hoping could somehow be put on the Wii U or become some kind of launch remake title or something,

I don;t think it has been confirmed that GameCube games will be on the WiiU VC. If they are, WindWaker will certainly be one of the first games released.

And if they are, that would make the Wii U complete and there would be no need for me to even continue wondering wether I should get the Wii now or just wait it out :D :D :D but I guess they confirm one thing at a time just to built up the hype? Well let's hope the VC thing actually happens :D

considering you can get a wii for like 100 and all of the games are pretty cheap now (used and some new) id say its a great chance.

3rd party game graphics = terrible

1st party graphics = great and smooth, but of course not HD.

i mostly play 1st party games anyway, and well im no graphics crazed gamer, i love to replay old classics frequently

If you asked me about graphics, I'd say I don't care one single bit as long as a game is as great as Skyward or Galaxy. Still though, the HD is such a great add and will make these games that are already gorgeous, look at least x200 better :D

ya my thoughts exactly. games like SMG and zelda SS have great graphics, but if they were HD they would be like 10x better.

Yeah it is confirmed to be backwards compatible, but with no GameCube support. So it still supports Wii games and all other previous consoles through the VC.
