Because it was right there so I just bought it. EB games opened in 10 minutes so I didn't want to wait either.theweakbear
Finding SSBB without a pre-order was really lucky and the reason you and your friend got the game was probably because you went early to get it (EB Games wasn't even open yet and you still went out to buy it). Mario Kart will be difficult to find, but not as difficult as SSBB was/is. As for why to pre-order, it offers you the luxury of picking it up at a convenient time of day so you don't have to wake up early to get it, unless of course, you need it ASAP.

That is exactly what gamestop/EB games wants to you believe. Walk into a walmart/target/bestbuy on any big release day and I guarantee that you will find more than enough copies of the game there. I live in a pretty big city and a day after SSBB was released I went to target to pick it up, they had about 20 copies.
Why would you pre-order? I pre-ordered brawl but canceled it when I walked in Wall-mart March 9th and they still had over 200 copies. My friend and I walked by EB Games and there was a line there. We both had our copies and everyone was looking at us. :Ptheweakbear
I got brawl on the release day without a pre order too. I did with galaxy and metroid prime 3 as well.
I'm planning on doing the same for mariokart wii and gta4

Not really. My friend walked in in the middle of the afternoon to Best Buy and said he saw more Brawls than he had ever seen of any other one game in a store. I don't know, maybe it was just your area that sold out fast.
