have you ever saved someone in a similar way?

How do you know if he would have liked Sonic or not? Thanks to your efforts he may have spent his money on a game he might have less fun with. This is why I don't get involved with people's purchases. Chances are some people liked Sonic and the Black Knight more than De Blob and that kid might have been one of them.

Nothing wii related so no i have not. I tend to not get into other peoples business. As it is their money and really i do not want to argue with a person over a game. I have seen it happen at Gamestop before between employees and customers and i find it rather pointless. If they bought a bad game it is their fault we have all been there it is just another life lesson. Heck he might have liked it i mean when i first started gaming i thought games that were mediocre were excellent.

I've never done that to strangers, but I've saved quite a few friends in a similar way. Not concerning Wii games though. Proud of you. ;)

... And you're bragging about this... why? It's stupid to think that your opinion = fact, and that everybody would have to agree with you. For all you know, the kid could have liked the game. Maybe not his favorite game of all time, but might have had some fun with it. I myself have had fun with some games that people thought was garbage. I admit that most of them weren't perfect or anything, but that doesn't mean that they're terrible games. But even if this wasn't the case, it's his money. He should do what he wants with it. Buy the game and learn from his "mistake." It's the only way he'll learn not to judge based on what other people say and form his own opinion. And for all you know, the kid could come back in a month or two and buy the game then. :P

Some people actually like SatBK you know! But at least he got De Blob. I'm sure he'll have fun with that game too. And plus that game needs more support than any Sonic game anyways.

Eh, I try not to get into other people's business when I'm buying video games. Although it is kind of funny to see people yell at Gamestop employees because they bought a crappy game brand new then they tried to exchange it for something else but can't because since the game is opened, it's considered used and they can only get store credit for it. I hear them say that over and over again, but people don't seem to listen. Plus, they end up holding up the line and making everyone else pissed because they have to wait in line.

I don't think kids can tell a bad game even when they are playing it. When I was nine-ish I used to think Clayfighter 63 1/3 was the holy grail of fighting games.

i'm getting those feelings a lot and i can absolutely understand you. so often i was at a games store and i see somebody (older male person/female person/young kid) who is about to buy some crappy shovelware game. and I always wanna tell them: "NO! DONT DO IT! BUY A GREAT BUDGET TITLE INSTEAD!". I've never been doing that, though.

I've seen kids about to do dumb things like that, but most of the time don't want to say anything because it's their money.

I convinced a guy to buy MadWorld this last weekend. He was looking at it with a somewhat interested look on his face, so I just went up to him and said--"Buy it. It's amazing". And he did

It felt a little weird because I've actually never played it. Not allowed to play rated M games. But I want it to sell well, so I figured it was okay.

Did you atleast make sure he had a controller he could play the Gamecube game with? Personally, I did not like de blob. I would only get involved if a game was tragically broken. If I was a sonic fan and thought it sucked I would still say nothing as it is only my opinion and kids love the new sonic games.

Yes, I've done that. I chat with people in the games aisle so often I should probably get commission. I recommended Nintendogs just last week to a lady looking to buy a game for her daughter. Ok, maybe not the game you would have recommended...

On the other hand, I've never talked anyone out of buying a game. For all you know the kid might have liked it, not everyone that has played it has hated it.

I don't think that was really right. I, for one, liked it, and can name a number of other people who do, too. You never know whether a person may enjoy a game or not simply basing the fact that a game is good on your opinion. In short, you feel if you like a game, it is good, and if you don't like a game, it is bad. We're not all robots. We have opinions. It appears you haven't passed the pre-operational stage in Piaget's developmental theory - so, are you of 2 to 7 years old? Come on. It's really not that hard to understand that other people have their own opinions - he may have liked the game, and he may have hated De Blob. I saw no point in De Blob. Sure, now you may think I'm an idiot, but hey - that's my own opinion, I haven't picked on yours, so you don't pick on mine.

TBH, you'd have more balls if you went up to a random person and stated that it was a bad game. Life and death situations pretty much require you to step in, while something like the OP said would be pretty much impossible for most people while having first aid training and saving someones life comes naturally and is standard in that situation (life and death situation). Are you going to say, "okay I'm not going to help this person who is having this fit because it might shame me?"... Of course not, you are being ignorant by being sarcastic. Lets face it, even though the OP isn't humble about what he did, it wasn't something he NEEDED to do, hence it requires more balls for him to do it. With that said, what you did is more important of course, but that doesn't discount the fact that I gave above.

"Bad" is in the eye of the beholder. What I think is a great game, you may think is horrible. Just because a critic says a game is bad, doesn't mean that it is.

I'm more of the `suggest games that I love' type too ... though I have suggested to people to read a couple reviews of everything they plan to buy [taken with a grain of salt] can be very useful at identifying games that are lemons. Sadly, some sites review poorly - but a little bit of research IMO is more likely to result in avoiding the worst games.

When my mum bought me a PS2 one year for my birthday the guy in the shop recommended she got me Kingdom Hearts with it. I wish I could meet that guy 'cos I'd shake his hand.
