So I just recently bought the 3ds to reconnect my love for handheld gaming (since vita get no love in the states, damn buy dat vita everyone!) and to jump on hype for pokemon sun and moon (getting moon). I found myself to be throughly dissapointed with most of nintendo offerrings.

I got myself mario 3d land, new super mario, paper mario, kirby, star fox, kid icarus, metroid, fire emblem fates, pokemon x and a bunch of 3rd party jrpgs in the bargain bin. Out of those only fire emblem, story of seasons and bravely default that really makes the 3ds buy worth it. The rest is a piece of junk, all sucked hard. Kid icarus is kind of exception since its fun but cant play it for more than 15-30 minutes since it give me sore fingers so im throwing it into the suck status alongside other games. Pokemon x is either the worst pokemon game for me or just because i was burned so hard after investing my time every pokemon gen previously so as like kid icarus Im putting it on the suck list. Mario and co was abysmal, thats it. **** Mario games, it doesnt even try anymore, after world 3 or so I stopped due to the the games being so flat and uninteresting. Only made it to world 3 because i forced myself. Kirby was too easy,, I snoozed and still able to clear the level. Metroid federation force was a mistake lol. Come on nintendo, you can do better.

Personally I think Im just spoiled by sony more mature and engaging story focus based games and pc diverse library. When I play nintendo games I dont get any of that. I was honestly once got sobored bored I snoozed off while playing kirby! Though even though I wasted $250 (3ds + games), fire emblem and bravely default makes it kinda lifted my regret, i put about 200+ hours combined on those 2 and still playing. I also got into animal crossing for a few days and its been a great fun! Anyhow Im still getting pokemon moon because I want to play pokemon with others, hopefully i see you guys soon on the PSS. In conclusion, 3ds is a good console for nintendo fans, ds fans and everyone else not tainted by offerrings on different platforms.

*ps if anyone wondering how the heck I got so much game i got most from my friend for 40bucks, and asked my nieces to donate some lol.

** so much 1st party games.

I really was wondering lol. But hey I understand what you saying. I just bought a N3DS in May, coming from a DSi. Im pretty sure I don't like traditional Mario games since my original DS days (maybe before then). I do not know if you have a DS, but the DS has a GREAT library that you can explore in. I really liked pokemon x/y but how easy it is does make it disappointing. By the way I'm probably getting moon too. But the vita does get a little bit of support...randomly....and if you like jrpg and visual novels lol. I have a ps tv just for that.

Some games I will suggest to check out are: Professor Layton series (puzzle and brain teaser), Phoenix Wright series (court cases puzzle), Rune Factory 4 (harvest moon + everything), Luigi Dark Moon (different enough), Mario Kart 7 (your hand may get cramp), The Legend of Zelda remakes, TLOZ: A link between Worlds, Zero Escape series (strong story telling+puzzle kinda). I'm assuming you will be picking up fire emblem awakening and Bravely Second since you already like those series.

Get away from those Nintendo mainline mascot games. And I agree some Nintendo games especially on the handheld have a difficulty problem where they are way too easy. Guess this is where they are catering more to kids...very young kids. For $250 I wouldn't regret much as that's really cheap for a system and all of those games. There are some more involved and mature games, they are just not Nintendo's big sellers. I still don't get Animal Crossing though....

If it ain't your cup of tea, it ain't your cup of tea.

And that's okay.

I found a lot to like with the 3DS. The remasters of Ocarina, Majora, and Star Fox are excellent. It has a few good fighting games, such as Street Fighter and Dead or Alive. A Link Between Worlds takes something familiar and puts a refreshing new structure on it. I thoroughly enjoyed Mario 3D Land. It's the best handheld Mario game I've ever played.

I've had a few duds, too. Sonic Generations, Kingdom Hearts, and Luigi's Mansion being the three that immediately come to mind.

I really enjoy my 3DS but like any system, you gotta know what you're wanting from it. 3DS is a RPG, Platformer haven. And I love that. Add to that I can play all my DS games. And it's beautiful.

However it's not for everyone, and though I respect your opinion, you should have conducted some research first. Going in blind is a pointless investment with a google search being merely minutes of your time.

I personally enjoy it. As the user above me said, if you like RPGs and platformers it's awesome. But there are great games of all kinds available to play on it, not to mention its huge virtual console of past handhelds and access to the DS library. But hey to each their own.

The only game I've bought and played for it and really didn't like that much was Scribblenauts Unlimited. Apart from that I've enjoyed pretty much every game I've played on the system.

If you own a 3DS but not Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, you're doing something wrong.

This thread is wrong on a couple of levels. What would Fire emblem and bravely default be doing in the bargain bin? Why would anyone who has been active on this site in the past few months ever pick up federation force? How deep in the hole do you have to be to not enjoy a kirby games and/or expect it to be really hard? How can someone dislike all of those games but then love Animal crossing?

So many unanswered questions that i cant wrap my mind around.

I feel you on Mario 3d land though I made it to world for before I got bored. It's 3d but at the same time still classic Mario and doesn't have multiplayer to make it less boring.

@drrollinstein: well here people not really into nintendo. Its Playstation land here so nintendo stuff usually sold for lower value (3rd party) after a few month and I probably got the wording wrong. I meant I got jrpgs in the bargain bin, not every game in the bargain bin. My bad. But I did get bravely default in the bargain bin tho. Nintendo 1st games prices more than 3rd party and drops just a bit even after 1 or 2 years.

I really liked kirby aesthetics but never got around past that and never once played kirby, expected more. Metroid was a total impulse buy which was a waste of money since it was at full value. I enjoyed animal crossing because I am employed on a 9-5 job , the game is really made to play in tidbits, which I made full use of at the office.

@rovelius: I just downloaded it online due to my cliques recommendations. Last I played MH was on psp and no autolock makes the game frustrating for me. This game has been great so far, i'm grinding on rank 3 and trying to catch on my friends whose at rank 6-8. Never loved the grinding but it holds me because my friends are toturing me on how to beat the monsters.

The real 3D Land begins after the credits. I know, I know, but they designed it assuming it would be some kids' first 3D Mario game, so it has a significant ramp up. The second half of the game is great, and the final challenge is one of the most difficult Mario levels ever.

@sakaixx: After World 8. There are eight more worlds after that.

The whole game is a ramp up. The farther you get, the more interesting it gets. If you're willing to push through the easy worlds, I think you'll like what comes later.

Fire Emblem Awakening and Zelda Link Between Worlds were definitely amazing, you need to check them out. Also, I had a lot of fun with Pokemon Y (loved battling online), Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, and Kid Icarus (even though the controls weren't the greatest). Pokemon Sun and Moon are coming out in November which I'll be getting day one. I also picked up a bunch of virtual console games on it like Castlevania III, Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, Wario Land II, the original Castlevania, and several others.

Since the hinge on my old DS broke, I've been picking up some DS games like Dragon Quest IX and Radiant Historia which are a ton of fun. It's not as good as the DS but it's definitely given me my money's worth.

If you're looking for more mature and story based games on 3DS I recommend the Shin Megami Tensei games. There are about five of them on the 3DS and they will each take you about 50 hrs to beat.

Really there are a lot of games on the 3DS. Don't feel like you only need to play the Nintendo stuff.

Every time someone talks about a Nintendo game and why its good, 99% of the time they say "its charming", "its cute", etc.

I'm like, is it interesting, suspenseful or have depth?!? I'm sure they'd say nope, just same old cartoon art style like fantasy world of bright colors and everything is E for everyone.

Its funny cause Nintendo been bringing over these "Nindies", basically Steam's greenlit games, all 10+ or Teen, and they aren't much different from what you saw on SNES. So like WWE, Nintendo degraded over time from some mature stuff, to having a butt hole tighter than Mario's belt.

@Gorillanator: I'm a SMT fan so that's a no brainer (Not to brag, beaten persona 1 and 2 even before anyone in west realize SMT existed). Yes there are a lot of 3rd party 3ds games but I was throughly dissapointed by the first party offerrings. The 3ds 1st party offerrings got to be the worst 1st party offerrings I have ever encountered in a console.. And yes I had more fun with psp 1st party games, and sony dont really release anything really amazing there.

@saltslasher: that is true. Its pretty much rinse and repeat now. They basiccally just released the same game with a new coat of paint. Though there have been some gems here and there, barely if any. Though definitely have not found anything on the 3ds.thank god the 3rd party guys are solid cause if not, i would have sold the darn thing a month after I bought it.

I have both the 3DS and the Vita. I would love for Vita to have a decent library as it's an amazing system, but it doesn't. I love my 3DS. I take it pretty much everywhere I go. Gotta second the Zelda games. A link between worlds is amazeballs. I tend to like the Mario/Kirby/etc. games, but I can understand why others don't. Interesting though that you bash the lack of maturity in the games, but your selections were Mario, Pokemon, Kirby, etc. Why not try the Castlevania franchise, Shen Megami Tensi series, or Zero Escape games? Tales of the Abyss is one of my all time favorites.

I'll give you 2 sleepers no one will ever mention and I will get bashed for even thinking, but they actually are good and you can for sure find them in that bargain bin you found Fire Emblem in: That's So Raven and Adventure Time: Hey Ice King, Why'd You Steal our Garbage.

@killered3: Id say kiddy games better than no games. Vita isnt even sold in retail stores anymore. The games it does get are low budget weird games.

3DS just got the amazing Dragon Quest, Phoenix Wright and Shin Megami Tensei game, plus many more awesome ones to come. Plus Monster Hunter Generations has been a blast.

If you mean Indies, that's only for the West. Japan still supports Vita through PSN store so we get plenty of jrpg's, fighting, adventure, strategy games of the like from them. Some even come from 3DS library too. Those Japanese games for Vita are damn high budget at that.

Its bout to release Pokemon which is super high budget. And super popular. Not that fake popular either, we taking 10 million+ popular.

Then you exploded with all this, "Vita has low budget this, barely sold that.." nonsense. Stuff I wasn't even mentioning in the first place. I never claimed it was a leaping success, I just love what it has more than 3DS. That's it! You like Nintendo games games, I like 3rd party Japanese crap. To be fair, I didn't know the topic was on the Nintendo forum. I'm an idiot. I didn't look at the category the topic was in. And I never said the Vita games were popular, Monster Hunter clones are. Monster Hunter games ported from consoles too. Freedom Wars was an exception. Monster Hunter is obviously better but the clones do sell for people who don't play Nintendo games. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many.

God Eater kinda got that far. Got a lazy sequel if it counts. It's the other solution to Monster Hunter without being Monster Hunter. Ragnarok Odyssey was closer gameplay wise but the universe itself was bland as **** so that kinda got nowhere. It was nice try though!

Ragnarok Odyssey

Freedom Wars

Soul Sacrifice Delta

God Eater 1 and 2

All these are Monster Hunter clones. So far, God Eater the most successful.

@Rovelius: Monster hunter is boring and repetitive. Only the Japanese love that series.

That's a nice opinion you have there. Too bad it's just an opinion. Not even grounded in reality, too.

Yes, yes it is grounded in reality, actually. That's a nice (worthless) opinion YOU have there. Monster Hunter is MUCH more popular in Japan than it is here, that is a fact.

It is boring and repetitive compared to games like Dark Souls, but to each their own I guess. Have fun with your Monster Hunter rehash version 10.0. Capcom could at least put some effort in every now and then, but that's always been Capcom's MO. You probably bought all the versions of Street Fighter 2 back in the day as well I'm guessing?

@itstotallymike: actually this thread was originally about me not loving nintendo anymore. And nintendo games dont really cater to a more mature audience, people who loved nintendo mainly was because of its charms. i definintely didnt see those charms.

Still enjoyed 3rd party offerrings and I just got shovel knight which has been amazing. But this gen for me nintendo has been underwhelming on its offerrings.

Did you even play Mario 3D Land?

Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Bravely Default, both Fire Emblem games, Monster Hunter 4 and a ton of 3rd party RPG's.

A Link Between Worlds alone is worth the console.

I can only speak from my own personal experience but from that, I've found that the people who play Mario tend to be a lot more mature than the legions that perch within the worlds of your CoD's and Halo's.
