Look at Sony and Microsoft. Both of them have the sales of all their computers, Tvs, ect. to back up their systems. The Wii and DS, on the other hand, must be self-sufficient. And look who's winning! If Nintendo create the wonders that are the Wii and the DS with only their video game money, imagine what they could do if profits started pooring in from other areas places! Of course, all of their products would be linked to their games of course. Nintendo could make the next Iphone, one that has a slot for DS games. Nintendo could make a PC, specificly desighned for gaming. The list goes on. In fact, i could even see Nintendo buying/merging/cooperating with Apple! After all, Apple currently is also the underdog, but in computers. I'm sure they would apreciate help. Plus, both the companies are at the top of their handheld makets. This means they could put their skills in that area toghether and create a device that would blow both Zune and PSP right out the water!

Well lets see when they hire players, run a professional organization for a season....seems to me that they made that team for that season or for as long as they own that team!!!!!

Yep!

probably one of the reasons they're so good at creating and inovating in the video game world is because they only work in games.

No, if they don't succeed into breaking into to those markets, it will likely be their downfall. They need to stick to their bread and butter.

they shouldnt start making new stuff because thats why I hate the 360 and the ps3. They spend so much money on internet servers and stuff that they could careless about making quality games. With the exception of halo, call of duty, and rockband

probably not a good idea.

nintendo are still a relatively small company compared to the likes of sony. there very profitable at the mo but even all that money wouldnt be enough. competition is already fierce in the PC and tv market, and ninty wouldnt last 30 seconds if they tried to make an OS to compete with windows or even linux. doing so would also spread their resources alot and the games would suffer as a result.

bar a few excpetions, its usually better for a company to specialise in a few area and be the best thay can be at that...and then use the specialities of other companies to help them out. ninty already do this. they dont design graphics hardware for example....they now get ATI to do it. it would cost too much money for ninty to do it themselves. so they just send a list of requirements to ATI and they got to work basically. same with the CPU, now designed to ninty specs by ibm. the memory is from mo-sys and the disc drive (for the GC at least..not sure about the wii) was developed by panasonic. of course ninty own all the hardware....but they take advantage of the specialiaties other companies have instead of doing it all in house. ninty then focus on what they do best...manufacturing and distributing hardware and software....and making cracking games while also dealing with publisher and developer relations and support for their platform.

this is how most companies do business and it works very nicely for ninty. by being small (relatively speaking of course) they can also change there strategies far quicker and at a lower cost compared to bigger companies.

Nintendo DID make things besides games in the past. They originally started up in 1889 as a Hanafuda card manufacturer. However, by 1963, they started doing other things, like running a taxi service and a love hotel(which Hiroshi Yamauchi himself stayed in quite a bit!). Both of those businesses were eventually shut down. They then moved on to making toys, many of which were developed by Gunpei Yokoi. They started making a lot of Beam Gun products that had light guns and targets with solar cells, and that technology later made their way to bowling alleys converted to virtual skeet-shooting ranges. It was in 1975 where Nintendo would become associated with games, as Yamauchi had learned of the advances going on with microprocessors and other computer-related tech, which companies like Atari and Magnavox put to use developing early game consoles. You can probably pick up from there. Anyway, I think it's best that Nintendo just sticks to making games right now. I probably wouldn't want them to make a computer at this point in time, as it would likely be quite locked-down and not very upgradable and overclockable(note that I'm a huge PC gamer and prefer custom-building my systems, as my sig shows). Of course, my opinion on this matter would be very different if it were still the 1980s, where most computers were still fairly proprietary, some of them having cutting-edge specs(Commodore Amiga, Fujitsu FM-TOWNS), and the various IBM PC clones were quite inferior tech-wise and not as customizable as they are today.

Even Halo is made by Bungie, not MS, so it is second party if I'm not mistaken.

I think Nintendo should stick to what they do best, as other people have said, video games.

Oh yes they could careless about making good games. You're right and i could careless about making money too. Hey lets all live in a forest we don't need electricity or modern technology i'll go hunt for rabbit. I'm pretty sure all companies care about making money they need it to become a company.

Exactly, that's why they don't want any more failiures. Nintendo should do what they want, yes, but if Nintendo wants to stick to games, let it be so. (I prefer it actually)

Miyamoto's mind + Toilet = ?

Burn The Wizard!!!

...

I'm talking about the movie "The Wizard". It's something Nintendo did that wasn't a video game. You should burn it onto a disc and watch it. Burn the Wizard.

Actually, they still make cards. In fact, its been their origin of their company since they began. They only swiched to making video games a while ago.

I remember back when I was on Nsider (the offical Nintendo forums, which no longer exsist), and Apple just made an annoucement of the iphone and the ipod touch. The Off-topic area had a ton of posts about it. Then I went to live chat, were we got to chat with people who work at NOA (Nintendo of America) and there was a ton of posts about Apple's annoucements there, also. I made a post saying that "I was unhappy at the annoucement, because I don't listen to music, and Apple could have used to money to make a video game system". A user then said to me "well, what if Nintendo annouced that they were going to make an MP3 player instead of a Wii? How would that make you feel?" I was about to point out that Nintendo mainly makes video games, and Apple doesn't just make music players, but then an NOA stepped in to defend me, saying "actually, Nintendo doesn't just make video games. They have been making cards for a while now" It went something like that.

Maybe that means that Nintendo will end up doing something :o.
