Im pretty confident we will see a cell shaded Zelda this E3 for wii, but it will go beyond what wind waker achieved. Lets face it TP style (realistic) looks dated on wii. Was playing wind waker recently and was impressed by its visuals. I even showed it to my Xbox freak counsin, and he was impressed!!! (nearly impossoble to impress this HD freak).

So whot you guys/gals think?

mod edit - Made slight changes to a misleading thread title.

I think this thread's title should begin with "I think..." or "I want..."

I'm kind of getting tired of misleading titles.

Also, I'm all for another cel-shaded Zelda. In fact, the idea of a grown up AND cel-shaded Link makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The way I see it, cel-shaded doesn't necessarily have to be light-hearted or "4 teh kiddeyz, lulz". It's a very verstaile technique that can convey a crapload of emotions, moods and ambients.

plus wii can afford to make a high end looking Cel shaded, beyond Wind wakers capabilities, and THAT would impress anyone. Some SMG tech on cellshaded and you could get a next gen looking(i know gameplay over graphics) game.

I really hope not, it will show how unimaginative Nintendo has become with Zelda. I dont want to see the same art style of WW (dont get me wrong i did love it) but i want an artstyle that will deliver the same impact.

This is going to be the first true Zelda on this console so i want Nintendo to create a revolutionary artstyle (like WW) that will have many imitators in the future (of course all failing). This is not something i want but off the top of my head for example, a game with a water pastel artstyle.

TP's visuals look dated because it was made for the GC...

I think Nintendo will keep the cell shaded zeldas on the handhelds from now on. and why would you want ANOTHER cell shaded one? that would be 3 in a row.

and a bit of advice: dont go into E3 expecting a console zelda to be announced, you may end up with massive disappointment

If it is, great. I loved Windwaker to death. If it looks like TP, also great. That game's art style was stunning. As long as it's Zelda, I really don't care.

There are many decisions Nintendo can make that will both please the fans and make them money... a cel-shaded Zelda being one of them. Making money and pleasing fans are not mutually exclusive, and nor is Nintendo the devil. They just want some money and, hell, I can hardly blame them.

Fair enough but dosen't it seem to you this generation they have really given the fans a raw deal? They have sometimes been downright disrespectful like that trainweck of an E3. Then reggie has the balls to say "Well Animal Crossing is hardcore". They jsut seem to actively want to piss us all off, cell shaded Wii is too good of an idea for them ever to make it, just like thry refuse to stop using friend codes eventhough its been 2 years!!!

I don't agree. That would make for 3 Cell-Shaded Zeldas in a row, which would pretty much spell death for the realistic look. I don't want that. I think Zelda Wii ought to set the bar for realistic visuals on Wii, while still branching out from the established formula.

I do agree, last year's E3 was pretty disastrous. However, you have to remember, at last year's E3 we got Animal Crossing, and we got Motion Plus and Wii Speak. Just before E3 we had gotten Brawl and Mario Kart, and less than a year before we got Galaxy. Oh, and shortly after E3 we got Wario Land. I'm sure there were other Nintendo games released as well. They just didn't have any 3rd party stuff announced. (correct me if I'm wrong on any of that, E3 was a while ago :P) I personally think Nintendo fans ask for too much. What other developer announced/released that much stuff in 2008?

I am with you on this one, we do want too much. In less than 3 years we got: Mario galaxy, mario cart, brawl, Zelda (kind of), Metroid Prime 3, Mario Strikers (way underrated), Super Paper Mario, Wii fit, and a huge load of DS games to boot. Yes E3 was huge let down but people seem to have started to think that Nintedo has released nothing for the wii, instead of, unfortunetly, nothing in the last 6 months or so if you like AC or almost a year if you don't. As for a new visual style for the next Zelda... cel shaded would be fine as long as it is not a WW clone. Yes, to this day it looks pretty, but I think it needs to stay on the handhelds. Something like the new Prince of Persia would be kind f interesting.

And Game Over would be when Link marries Zelda and-Wait! You play those?!?!?!

Anyway, I would love for Zelda to revisit Cel-shading more, but I would like a more realistic Zelda this round...

Are you kidding?

The WW Styl[e was very artistic, and was anything but childish.

Do you really think Zelda games (with their length and difficulty) are aimed towards kids in the slightest way?

Not at all. Maybe the word chilldish was not the best choise, I meant that the styl[e was a little too "roundish" for my taste...

...but aslong as a new Zelda is coming I could care less about in what styl[e it comes. Just gimme a new ZELDA!!!

why do people insist on calling the TP graphical style realistic? it clearly had no intentions of being photo realistic. the human characters' bodies were all deformed. has nintendo started including elephantmen in zelda without me knowing?

I think the next Wii Zelda be look similar to TP, seeing as they're already developing Spirit Tracks with the WW art style. I don't see both games using the cel-shaded style if the two titles are being developed at the same time.

This is one of the more sensible posts I have seen on Nintendo and their "lack of games". I mean they have released a lot of top class games this generation and the third party is only starting to catch up recently. People can shout all they want about a lack of "hardcore games" but when it comes down to it Nintendo has released a wide variety of quality games that lots of people enjoy and the people who don't like any of the games are in the clear minority and a lot of times come off as unreasonable. As for the art style for Zelda. Something completely new would be awesome. But anything that shows that they put work into it is more than ok with me whether it be like a TP or WW stylistically.

Id rather have the next zelda game have a new style or art direction we haven't seen before, i don't really want another windwaker style game since it doesn't really allow link to change that much in appearance and his character design is usually identical in every cel shaded game, and it definitely wouldn't have the same impact Wind Wakers art style had when it was new. But If i had to choose between existing designs id like it to be more like TP and Majora's mask in atmosphere and art design.

1) Yes, they have released a heck of a lot of great games the first 1 and a half years after Wiis launch. Every since last summer, nothin (in Europe, that is). Which wouldn't be bad if there where at least anything upcoming announced I'd really look forward to (by Nintendo)

2) Though I'm guessing chances of a Wii-Zelda being announced at E3 are rather slim, I'd obviously love that to happen. speaking of the style: I hope it's not WW (Which really looked awesome, but as so many before me have pointed out, Wind Waker-style should remain Wind Waker-style only). Technically, on the outher hand, some gorgeous Celshade-thing would be nice. Just a new, astonishing style.

[And please don't pin me down to CEL-Shading; I'm anything but a guy interested in technical backgrounds, so maybe there's other shadings or newer versions of cel shading that I right now call cel shading]

I hope to God it's Wind Waker style. I loved Twilight Princess, but I think that the cell-shaded look would play to the Wii's strengths. As you said, Wind Waker still looks mind-blowing even by today's standards. I also think that Wind Waker style fits the whole Zelda mood more. It was whimsical, but it still had some moments of dark-and-creepyness. If they make sailing more compelling, I'd be all for it. I don't think we'll see it at E3--or even in the next year or two--but I think that the next Wii Zelda will be cell-shaded. Or maybea new style all together.

i kinda liked the visuals of TP. It didn't stray too far from the methods that WW used to convey emotion, at least in the faces. But WindWaker definitely had it when it came to getting environment themes right.

Either way, it should be interesting.

I loved Windwaker and all, but I think I would be pretty disappointed if Nintendo made another big Zelda title cel-shaded. If they are going to do it, they might as well do it on a system like the Wii I guess, but I was kinda hoping for something a little more fantasy-like. I would really like to see Zelda get back to its roots with the look it had in promotional artwork from the 80's, to be honest...

Thing is, a lot of those games weren't that great. Super Mario Strikers and Battalion Wars 2 felt like they were just thrown together for Nintendo to make a few more bucks, as did Pokemon Battle Revolution, Wii Play, Wario Land Shake and Animal Crossing.....And I didn't like Mario Galaxy, even if the rest of the world was crazy about it.

Cel-shading has become pretty interesting since it's debut.

ButI'd rather have the "toonish" looking cel-shading stick to the handhelds. I think it represents the DS better from a visual and hardware point.

I wouldn't mind if they went with something similiar to the Prince of Persia style, but I would hope that Nintendo would be creative enough to differentiate between the two. Zelda's gotta have it's own style, no mimictry.

Well Spirit Tracks is WW styIe.
If You would ask me -and i know, nobody does- they stepped away from WW visuals on console because of the reactions, and still use them on handheld because they secretly loved it so much (and me with them).

I think the next Wii Zelda be look similar to TP, seeing as they're already developing Spirit Tracks with the WW art style. I don't see both games using the cel-shaded style if the two titles are being developed at the same time.

Hyper_Tails
you got a valid point there. Then again it wont be similar to TP, as GC is not as strong as Wii.Take Okarina of time vs TP. A new console, a better graphical perfomance.Wii has roughly twice the gc power, we can expect something different.

I really hated the WW graphics, and I thought TP looked good. They'll be able to clean up graphics a lot from TP too, I think, because they'll be able to build the game for the Wii. I'd put up with cell shaded if Link looked at least as good as in smash just to get a new Zelda, and I'd be ok with cell shaded more like Prince of Persia (although yes, I realize the Wii probably couldn't put up visuals quite that good).

Oh, and I agree with the guy who said be more careful about your thread titles.

personally I think the realistic look Zelda has looks good on the wii and the cartoon visuals suit the ds. I actually hope it stays that way.

Actually, the Hotspot brought up that since the WW style is relatively simpler, it would be able to get more out of the Wii technically.

I like the cell shade style in Windwaker and Phantom Hourglass, but with the graphics in TP left me wanting more. I'd like a realistic Zelda title with young Link.

Stupid misleading thread title.

probably so but I like playing as an older Link where other characters take you seriously. Plus I have an easier time believing Link is the Hero of Time when he is an adult.

Visual presentation is not zedla's problem. It's a audio presentation and a very predictable formula.

lol could you have made the title any more misleading?

After the announcement of Spirit Tracks I doubt it'll be cel-shaded.
