then what hobbie helped him create Mario?
Maybe he's been taking way too many magic mushrooms...:P
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I remember reading an article when he used to smoke and be an alcoholic. So maybe he was just drunk when he made the game XD.
It isn't a rule. Pikmin came from a hobby, and so did his series of casual games. But Zelda was born from the will to make a game so complex (with too few hints through the game) it would force gamers to communicate (back then there was no internet, so they had to phone friends, or discuss it whenever hanging out etc). In other words, a game that would force gamers to socialize.
Mario (as in the original Donkey Kong arcade game) was a Popeye rip off. Miyamoto picked the concept, turned Popeye, Olivia and Bluto into Mario, Peach and DK, added more elements, and bingo. He did so because Nintendo needed original games.
Mario came from different combinations of hobbies. Like: drugs, pet turtles, plumbing, venus fly trap plants, racoons, swimming, finding loose change everywhere, and many other things.ChojutoHe must not have had a nice turtle XD
So that might explan Luigi's final smash in Brawl!I remember reading an article when he used to smoke and be an alcoholic. So maybe he was just drunk when he made the game XD.

lol, or maybe he was high and was hallucinating and thought his turtle was trying to kill him and jumped on it, and the other turtles saw him and started a war lol.

Not to mention Nintendo also released a game before that that sold poorly and was then in a dire need of a big hit other wise they would've gone close to bankrupt
Jumpman as Mario used to be named...I think was just a throw in for DK. He didn't become a plumber until the original Mario Bro's. (like the vs. matches in SMB3)
I have no idea how he became a plumber, or the whole concept of turtles, goombas, and piranha plants, etc. But, let me tell you something....He must've had some good saki at the time.
I would like to work with Miyamoto one day

You mispelled "sake" in your post.

Zelda was also born from childhood experiences, because Miyamoto use to wander around in the woods, and caves around his town.

gotcha...I thought it was always spelt "saki" but thanks for the heads up. Strong stuff
I read somewhere that when Miyamoto designed the character of Link, he was drunk. I wish I still had that article...I remember reading an article when he used to smoke and be an alcoholic. So maybe he was just drunk when he made the game XD.

I was thinking that "Wii Tattered" would be good.
Well Zelda came from his love of camping
starmetroid
I read that he was exploring a cave as a child and that gave him the idea.

I read that he was exploring a cave as a child and that gave him the idea.
He met the devil in that cave.
Mario is more of a collection of all his childhood memories.
- Chain chomp came from a memory of a dog running at him and being yanked back by the chain just in time.
- Pipes came from when he went into a cave in the side of mountain when he was 10. He was scared, but still curious. The fact that you never know what's going to come out on the other side of a pipe (or cave) draws the two together.
- Lives appearing out of thin air and appearing blocks. He wanted to invoke that child-like mindset of imagination and exploration. Any space in Mario may not be what it seems to the naked eye, but those that believe will be rewarded.
- Mario was originally a carpenter. Myiamoto wanted to be a carpenter at one point if I'm not mistaken.
[QUOTE="GamerBoy53"]He got the idea from his landlord. I read it in an issue of EGM.dese1
this is the real story, the rest of are just bogus, and this has been known for quite some time
You hear that everyone??? "With Zelda, Miyamoto wanted to take the idea of a game "world" even further. In his own words, the intent of the original Zelda game (and every Zelda title since) was to give players a "miniature garden that they can put inside their drawer." His inspiration came from the fields, woods, and caves outside Kyoto that he had explored as a boy, and he has always tried to impart this sense of exploration and limitless wonder to players through his Zelda titles." "Miyamoto initially became involved in videogame production because he was asked to redesign a violent game called Radarscope . The unoriginal premise of the videogame involved players destroying enemy planes (Sheff 47). Miyamoto completely changed the design of Radarscope . He combined ideas from the movie King Kong and the story book fable Beauty and the Beast. Miyamoto called his new game Donkey Kong (Sheff 47). The videogame featured a comical ape who kidnapped his master's girlfriend (Sheff 47-48 ). The unlikely hero was the first incarnation of a chubby plumber named Mario (Sheff 48 ). He had to dodge falling barrels and climb ladders to save the girl he loved.
"Donkey Kong gave players the opportunity to become absorbed in a humorous narrative. Such storylines were practically non-existent in other videogames. Miyamoto's coworkers were nervous (Sheff 49). They wondered if consumers who were used to senselessly violent games would buy his unconventional product." (Source)

What do you mean to prove by that google search? And yes, Miyamoto intended to make Zelda difficult and hoped it would get people talking, but that wasn't how it was born. It was born of his childhood memories: his hobbies as a kid. It's not just some random thing dreamed up in order to be difficult.
The second source shows that the inspiration Miyamoto had for Donkey Kong was King Kong and Beauty and the Beast. I don't see any evidence that it's a Popeye rip-off. Why, because you're rescuing a girl? Well then Popeye is a rip-off of Rapunzel and a gajillion other fables. The source also shows that he didn't make it because Nintendo wanted original games; it explains that Nintendo was very apprehensive about it because they thought it was too original.

"The Donkey Kong video game originally started out with Popeye characters; Popeye originally in the role of Jumpman/Mario, Bluto in place of Donkey Kong, and Olive Oyl instead of Pauline. Due to licensing disagreements with King Features, this idea was scrubbed. When Donkey Kong went on to have great success, King Features agreed to license the characters again."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popeye_(arcade_game)
There, Mario was originally a Popeye game and Miyamoto had to change the characters. End of story.

Wikipedia is an excellent source when the articles have citations. The particular paragraph you pulled has marked at the end of it "CITATION NEEDED". So I will say to you exactly what Wikipedia says: a citation is needed for what you claim.
