i suggest rethinking your concept of "replay value".

because clearly CSII has more than enough to be worth a purchase.

"Find out with else is new in Blazblue: Continuum Shift II"

Lol. And the only thing that kept me playing BB is the online. Otherwise the game isn't really challenging.

i lol'd at the typo too :P did you go to the settings to change the CPU difficulty? i admit the standard difficulty is laughable :P but i played story mode, enjoyed it, got 100% on all stories, lol'd hard at most funny endings, then moved to playing legion, arcade, score attack and versus. over and over and over.

Not nearly enough

They padded the game and that's horrible, there's 18 fighters and once you get down how the AI works those 18 characters you're done, the rest is just wash rinse and repeat.

Extended story mode? So we're going to see a few more cut scenes before we fight the same exact people the same exact way

i've learned better than to try to disagree with you, because you'll keep saying the same thing over and over until someone gives up and you consider yourself victorious. but no. story is a huge thing in blazblue. "extended story mode" means they added a story mode for the new characters (aka the DLC characters). story mode alone can give you around 15 hours of gameplay. "only 18 fighters". well street fighter has 4 fighters and a bunch of clones/different properties/physics. blazblue has 18 characters that play nothing like each other, and happen to be quite balanced for a change. it's not like "you play well with one character, you know how to play with half the cast" like in street fighter. legion mode is more challenging than you'd expect, and the new mode is interesting. so before saying "it's a fighter", think "it's a game". and this is a game with a whole lot of content, more than most games out there. hell i was just playing blazblue with my brother now. blazblue also has the advantage of being simple to learn and tough to master. but it manages to keep all that while being visually stunning and having obviously different and graphic-oriented attacks. you can see that each of the 4 buttons does something different.

I like games with online, especially Adventure/RPG games with co-op. Unfortunately those are in VERY short supply. Other games are fun online but eventually hackers take over and online mode is pointless. Hopefully that doesn't happen with the 3DS. Anyway, this looks interesting but I'm not a big fan of fighting games and I already have one...

I played the storyline mode over my friend's house and actually enjoyed it a lot. It's definitely on my list as one of the games to get for the 3ds even though there is no online. Most of my friends' would be getting it too I guess I'll end up playing with them :)

you should play more MMOs then :P and magicka. got it yesterday and having a blast, even though i'm playing alone (note: force friends to buy it with you, it's impossible to find a server without a password that happens to be on the same chapter you want to play). nice to finally see some positive response in the thread.

So far I have Street Fighter and that is deff a must have for anyone interested in a game with great graphics, and a franchise that is known to be at the front of the genre it is in. Having said that, I also did love BlazBlue on my PS3 and will have this game on my list for possible birthday goodies. It is just a shame that they didn't include online in as well, I'd love to see how I stack up to some of the people who are really good at some BB. :P

Jaysonguy

This is what kids these days with no offline friends actually believe.

No online experience can match the priceless reactions you get by whupping someone sitting next to you on your living room couch. Ever. Screw online fighting games. FPS, sure, but fighters were born in the arcade, and the idea of going up against someone without even being able to see the look on their face when they walk right into your insta-kill is beyond worthless.

Not it's not. You clearly are not used to good online.

Anyway, how does that change anything? This is a handheld version of a fighting game. That means I have to find another person that one, owns a 3DS, two, owns this game and I'll tell you that will never happen.

A fighting game without online isn't useless. A handheld fighter without online is.

Once again, Japan clearly proves that they don't get online.

1- they "don't get online" yet both games you guys are praising for the online are japanese. hypocrisy much?

2- it's a game with easily 30 hours of value single player alone.

3- local multiplayer is and will always be better than online, even with voice and video chat. that doesn't mean it's a shame they didn't add online, but it doesn't render the game useless.

1: For the most part Japan simply doesn't get online. There are a few exception. It's one of the things they simply suck at.

2: Tons of Singleplayer content or not this is a figthing game. They have always been based around multiplayer.

3: It doesn't really matter if local multiplayer is better or not. Only having local multiplayer on a handheld is today pretty meaningless for most people. I can easily get a couple of people over to play SF4, Blazblue or TvsC on my consoles. I will never be able to play a local only multiplayer handheld figthing game. I'm 23, non of my real life friends will even think about picking up a 3DS. This is why online multiplayer is important for me in a handheld game. Why should I waste $40 on a port of a game when I can already buy a superior version of it for $20 to my PS3?

1- stereotype too much? because i could start throwing lists and lists of japanese games with great online. news flash:JUST BECAUSE SMASH BROS HAS BAD ONLINE IT DOESN'T MAKE IT A PATTERN.

2- so you'll ignore 30+ hours of content, just because it's a fighting game, but you wouldn't mind spending the same money on a 10 hour game, as long as it's in the correct genre? i'm sorry, but it sounds just silly.

3- because not everybody has a PS3, it's blazblue on the go and it has all the DLC characters plus the new mode and stories. which, surprise, makes the console version more expensive.

1. Maybe they just. Don't. Care. You have to understand, most Japanese people will just go to the arcade if they want to play a fighting game. There, they can get the true, unmatched satisfaction of defeating someone in person.

2. Yes, they have always been based around multiplayer, just like they've always been based around signature arcade-styIe gameplay for an arcade setting. Stop trying to defend online multiplayer for fighting games when it wasn't even available when the genre was conceived, you bloody hypocrit.

3. Part of that $40 is for the fact that it's, you know, in 3D. Meaning those backgrounds will look even more glorious. But of course, you don't care.

Oh, a real man are we :o

That's not bloody laughable at all

How am I a bloody hypocrit again? I never said that online was better than local. I said that local on the 3DS is an impossibility for me. That's not the same thing as ignoring that Fighting games was born with local multiplayer.

The fact is though that the only way it would be possible for me to play multiplayer on a bloody handheld fighting game is if it's online. The game doesn't have that and thus doesn't have multiplayer for me to play. It's not that bloody hard to understand.

Well, The Japanese devs and publishers better get better bloody online or they will be even more bloody behind than they already are.

I wonder how much does it costs to them to make it online. I think they would sell much more if they added it. Still, I'm planning on getting it cause I like the series and I personally just don't play much online, so it doesn't affect me. Still, I understand why some people are pissed at the lack of it.

Japanese arcade game developers get by fine without online multiplayer. The ports of their games do well enough without online multiplayer. (example: Guilty Gear XX ports on the PS2 keep selling despite being incremental upgrades) I highly doubt the genre will lose profitability if they continue to do things they way they've been successfully doing them so far.

well they'd have to build an entire online structure, and they could later patch it into the game. of course, that's just me speculating.

Didn't know online was such a huge deal to you. Persnoally, I can have fun with fighters without online. Had way more fun with Tatsunoko offline, because of lag and players who kill me with one combo. No idea why Blazblue isn't online, though..

I don't really play online and love Blaz Blue so I will get it but what a terrible lazy decision to not include online play for a fighter. No excuse for that anymore. You don't make fighting or RTS games with no online modes. Any difference between the 3DS and PSP version?

i think you can play online on the PSP if you use the PS3 ad hoc thingie... not sure. but both are technically the same (aside from 3D awesomeness).

Buying a PS3/Xbox 360 copy of CS and getting the free patch would be cheaper than buying the 3DS version even if you bought all of the characters. But hey, at least the 3DS has the worse control scheme and no online to back it up right?

the three characters cost $24 ($8 each), so unless you can find it for less than $15 and own a PS3/360 (and don't want a portable fighting game), then CSII is not the rip off some are making it sound like.

actually continuum shift is the second game, continuum shift 2 is its "super" version. the original continuum shift is an X360/PS3 game, and each of the 3 "extra" characters available on the 3DS cost 8 dollars, to a total of $24. so on one side you have online and big screen fighting (and, if you have one, an arcade stick). on the other, you have the cheaper game (if you have yet to buy continuum shift), portable, with updates to old modes (including two new stories on story mode) and a brand new mode. it depends on the person, but IMO it's a fair trade, especially if you don't have continuum shift on the HD consoles.

No, it's an update of the second. Some extra story scenes have been added though.

[QUOTE="Legolas_Katarn"][QUOTE="Rod90"][QUOTE="BrunoBRS"] actually continuum shift is the second game, continuum shift 2 is its "super" version. the original continuum shift is an X360/PS3 game, and each of the 3 "extra" characters available on the 3DS cost 8 dollars, to a total of $24. so on one side you have online and big screen fighting (and, if you have one, an arcade stick). on the other, you have the cheaper game (if you have yet to buy continuum shift), portable, with updates to old modes (including two new stories on story mode) and a brand new mode. it depends on the person, but IMO it's a fair trade, especially if you don't have continuum shift on the HD consoles.

So this is actually the third game?

No, it's an update of the second. Some extra story scenes have been added though.

Ah, OK.

actually two whole extra story modes (there's one for each of the characters), from what i've read. plus that new RPG mode. but yes, it's more of an update, like Super Street Fighter IV is to Street Fighter IV.
