If the system continues to sell relatively poorly, do you think that Nintendo may announce the discontinuation of either it or the lite? I was hoping to see some support for the system at E3, but it seemed to be relatively ignored by Nintendo. Are they even going to include it's features in upcoming titles like Spirt Tracks, BIS, or HG/SS? Discuss.

Despite all the hype of the DSi , NDS Lite still sell like hot cakes. Much better sales than DSi.

the dsi is a pretty stupid concept, and really hasnt been given a good marketing ploy. By now, most people who wanted a DS have a ds lite, and the dsi gives no justification to fork out another 150$ for another one. They are 99% the same.

Because people can't justify the extra $50 that it costs for a DSi. They did away with the GBA slot, so those who still play GBA games or the Guitar Hero games have no incentive to buy a DSi. Also so many people already have digital cameras that no one is going to be buying a DSi so they can use it to tkae pictures all the time. The DSi store is really the only great thing that the DSi has, but I don't see that as enough to get people to buy a DSi. Especially since as someone has said earlier those who wanted a DS already either have a Phat or have already purchased one.

The DSi is by no means a poor concept. Nor is it 99% the same as the DS Lite. The problem is that it's not being used correctly. It's being treated as a DS 1.1, even though it's more like a DS 1.5+.I could think of a few ways that could make it near irresistable, but this isn't really my problem, is it? I just hope Nintendo can figure it out...

It's just a stop gap between consoles. When overall hardware sales dips again Nintendo will be preparing an entirely new handheld.

As far as dsiware goes, I say give it some time before going ape**** about what's being released right now (like alot of people seem to be doing). Like when the first ds came out, alot of the first games on it were crap because developers didn't know how to use it properly. It wasn't until later on that they started releasing gold. As for the dsi itself, I see ALOT of potential for future games (especially with the cameras), so it's kind of disappointing to see people being so pissed off about stuff like the cameras that they become blind to the possibilities. Long story short, give it more time to see what the dsi can REALLY do. 90 days just isn't enough to pass judgment on it yet (well at least for me).

And because it already has access to a great library of games, devs are showing little sense of urgency to get a bunch of content on the system. It'll be here eventually.

I think that this will be the next console. I know that the DSi and GBC have been compared a lot, but I think that is what it is going to be like. It will be a bit enhanced over the original, able to play new games for both systems with some benefits, and after a while, play games made specifically for it.

Now, I know that a Virtual Handheld would give many people an incentive to buy this, cough, cough...

You know what would instantly boost sales? The virtual handheld that HAS to be in the works, unless Nintendo has lost it entirely. I don't see why they don't just release it now. What are they waiting for?

I recall, someone posted a link to kombo about the virtual handheld before the DSi released, and it said that downloadable GB/GBA games had only been announced for Japan as Nintendo called them about the matter. linky Not to mention that twice, Nintendo reps confirmed it.

I bet that they could either announce it at a Fall Conference (if they have one), or wait until DS Lite sales decline significantly.

like everybody said right after it was released: its a good option for players that have the DS phat or dont have any DS. i have a phat and i dont play GBA games anymore. and if i wanted, i could pick the DS phat (i'm not getting rid of it) or even a GBA to play.

And most people don't even know it exists yet.

They need to advertise what's different about it in the commericals.

Or at least, like the above said, some DSi games.

You guys clearly have no clue what you're talking about.

DSi is out selling the DS lite, is selling much faster than it. in Japan its like 7 to 1 DSi over DS lites.

In NA and EU alone in the month of April Nintendo sold 1 million DSi's.

DS lite sales have dropped dramatically. Why is anyone saying otherwise? Mad that you don't get Elecktroplankton for $10? or Dragon Quest Wars?

I can't see that myself Nintendo aren't giving this console the same sort of push they gave the Wii and DS. It wasn't that big a deal in the news. The software support isn't very strong and the advertising isn't that great either.

Yes, Yes it is. This forum is divided on the DSi issue it seems to me. In between thousands of Poke-Threads that is.

It is still way too early to even judge the handheld. The shop (its most notable feature) hasn't even been given enough time to develop. Of course the DSL will sell more; it is cheaper, and more appealing atm, as the DSi has received poor marketing and very little clever developing. When the shop really kicks off (just like the one for the Wii did after an initial moment of bore), DSi-exclusives come out, more useful apps are included, theprice drops a bit,and DSi-enhancements are present in games, it will be the primary DS handheld and sell much more. Not many people are going to be looking to play GBA games in 2010 or 2011, they will simply be too outdated for most gamers.

People on this board are extremely ignorant when it comes to the DSi, usually claiming that all it has to offer is a camera. The main features of the systemare its shop and new design, the camera was tacked on for the hell of it. Sure, they may be camera-related games to boost sales and further innovation, but people here really need to understand that the DSi was not created simply to incorporate the camera.

The DsiWare store should have been filled with high quality games day one that's the problem.

The mentality that we all should wait for the new upgrade to blossom doesn't hold when it's a simple upgrade we are talking about. If they expect the majority of all DS phat and DSL owners to buy one they should give a reason for us to buy one day one.

I don't see any reason why a person should by a system when it releases if it doesn't have the games that person wants. It's very bad planning on Nintendo's part. They want me to buy a DSi on day then they should give me a reason to buy that DSi on day one. I don't give into "potential" and neither should anyone else.

I agree that the store will probably be filled with high quality games after some time but that won't make me buy one today. It would be like only buying the Wii for the Wiiware. Sure the Wiiware has 4-5 games that you can easily buy but is that really enough to buy a new console?

The fact that Nintendo has not announced any upcoming releases in the DSiWare store or a DS version of the Virtual console is once again proving that they are far too cautious to see an opportunity and go with it and that will hurt them in the end.

I'm really regretting buying one. The only thing that keeps me hanging is the possibility for new upgrades (such as video). If they don't step it up by the end of December, I'm getting a Lite again.

Why are you ignoring logic and proven facts? It actually is selling a system! Did you see the Quasi-Stoner-ish commercials with the DSi? Where they mess with their faces in the Camera? Nintendo knows they were going for the 16-24 iPod Market right there (esspecially with one of the people in the commercial baring a striking resemblance to Jake Gyllenhall)

Nintendo's marketing since 2005 can sell anything apparently, except the GBM. All they need is Beyonce or Lisa Kudrow. I think all of us can agree more Beyonce in our commercials is nothing but a wonderful, beautiful thing.

korino55

Why? Do you really want GBA games that much? Coz thats kinda like Downgrading from a Wii to a GCN. You might as well keep the Wii as it plays GCN games and some Wii games will excite you.

Maybe not all the DSiware games will be your taste, but something will and you still get the stellar future line up of DS titles. And they are making DSi only games at retail, so if Nintendo ends up pushing DSi into a new console with these new games in overload with big titles like Smash, Kart, Mario, Zelda or whatever (just saying theortically) then you will feel bad again.

I'm just saying dude. I know i'm a huge DSi guy on this board but do you really need a GBA slot that much? Why don't you buy a used GBA SP online or at retail for $40? you'd be losing money anyway you look at it, unless you just buy a GBA in addition to the DSi

But if you have no plans to pla GBA games then i can't see why you'd downgrade, you'd be restricting yourself from the possibility of playing DSiware and DSi only games. I don't know how far they will go with the DSi only titles, but if they make a 3D Super Mario or Smash Bros or something for it, well then you will regret it. (i'm not saying they will but hey its possible PLEASE don't gimme that junk about nintendo not abandoning 100 million users they will do it if they find it to make them more money and they've done it to you several times before don't act like they won't if they can. this is aimed at ppl on this board not just Korino sorry)
