Recently while playing any game on the Wii I've started to notice these tiny blotches of flashing pixels and they're begining to worry me. Does anybody know what the problem is? I'd like to get it resolved before my warrenty runs out (if it can even be taken care of that way).

 Thanks people.

It might be overheating. Check to make sure that your Wii has good ventilation.

Wow it's pretty hot, good call. I hope the damage isn't permanent. As far as ventilation it's about a foot a way from the wall.

it's in a pretty open area. There's nothing obstructing it from the right side and the wii games are between it and my PS2 from the left side. But there's nothing above it, a foot of space behind it, and nothing to the right of it.

There have been other reports of this happening and the cause, if i remember correctly, is linked to overheating of the graphics card.

Also, I don't think positioning your Wii horizontally will help the heat problem at all... if anything, it will make it worse.  When it's in the stand, it can release heat more efficiently since more of its surface area is in open air, rather than against a table or something.

Unless it's been proven that Wiis operate at cooler temperatures while horizontal, I think I'm gonna stick to my idea.

Hey thanks everyone, I called Nintendo and they told me they'd take care of it once I ship it to them. I totally forgot about the ventilation on the bottom of the Wii. It's sitting right on top of my NES.

Unfortunately this means I'm without a Wii for at least two weeks.

Boy it's a good thing I have classes and papers to preoccupy my time... (sigh)

Contrary to what a bunch of idiots in this forum will try to tell you, some consoles (not just the launch ones) have overheating problems due to wc24. Apparently it's not only dependant on the console, but how warm your room is, how close it is to other components that generate heat, etc. The best thing to do to avoid these kinds of artifacting problems is to either turn off wiiconnect24, or buy a cooling fan add-on. I have the Intec fan and it definitely keeps the wii much cooler, but is very loud. Gamestop has a new cooling base coming out at the end of the month that may be better.

I just think it's odd that even though we get these threads from people saying they're experiencing artifacting due to overheating every couple weeks or so, some users insist "TERZ NO PROBLUM WIT TEH WEE OVERHEETING!!" Guss they must just be fanboys that are scared to face the fact that the mighty great Nintendo might have made a mistake in their design. :|

Sounds like a GPU thats overheating. Probably defective. I never understand why people post about these problems instead of calling Nintendo.

Well I have a quick question regarding this same type of problem. I haven't noticed any real performance problems. But when I leave my Wii with WiiConnect24 on(The yellow light, not red.) it'll sometimes get really hot, is it supposed to? Also another thing, I can never connect to Wii Shop Channel, while every other internet using service on the Wii works.(Such as Everybody Votes.) I always try connecting and it just sits loading at the screen where it says: "Connecting. Please Wait..." I always thought of that as the halfway point because before it got to that screen and then got to the Wii Shop Channel pretty quickly, now it just won't connect at all. And yes my router settings thing is set to 11.
