The reason SSBB is laggy is because of the over-used servers. There are so many players online that the servers can't handle it. If you want to play lag-free online on SSBB, play at night, when most players are asleep.
I actually don't think Mario Kart Wii will have this problem, because it isn't as popular as SSBB. But then again, who knows for sure...?
I think the same issue occurs with just about any popular game for about the first month; remember the traffic Halo 3 generated on XBOX Live with it's launch? Things will iron out as time goes on - I dont see lag being an issue for much longer.
we can not judge something before we see it.brawl's online may have a few problems for some because there are so many gamers playing it but iam sure nintendo will fix it.mario strikers another nintendo title has a great online without any lag if you have a good internet connection.i also can not wait to play mario kart wii online and i believe nintendo will create a great online mode because they have more experience now.all we can do is wait and see and iam sure that we will get a great online mode.
I think this is a valid concern and a serious one at that
Mario Kart is a title that will cater to everyone and for many it will be their first game they play online on the Wii. They wont know as many of us do about the reasons for lag, they'll only know it's broken.
Nintendo failed to give it's users a seamless, worry free experience with Smas Bros but thankfully that title is more fan oriented and people are willing to give it a pass.
I don't think Nintendo will be as fortunate with Mario Kart so these problems must be avoided.
Being as curious as I am, I went in and read Jaysonguy's blog. What a joke.
That game is far from "broken". It's easily the best experience I've had with the Wii since the console first launched. I don't know what's wrong with you all, but I rarely have any problems with online. I've had just as many lag problems on certain games on XBox Live, and I paid for that. Most online connections I've had with Brawl have been near flawless. I've played people in other countries like they were next door. That doesn't sound like a broken game to me.
Besides, that game isn't all about online anyway. It's still much more fun playing with real friends in the same room. Not to mention the things you can do without other people. I'll be playing that game for a LONG time. It has lived up to every expectation I had and them some.
Mario Kart DS works almost perfectly everytime I connect, and that's on a handheld. I think the Wii will be able to handle that game online. I don't have any worries.

Trust me don't even compare Brawl to Lives online. I saw my friend playing a match two days ago and it looked like he was running a 56k connection. Random lag stops for 10 to even 20 seconds. Most matches online are unplayable. However there are still the few lag-less ones.

AHH!! that must be why the online on Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is so laggy... High popularity, and over-worked servers? ha ha... j/k.
give it some time... the numbers are going to continue to increase, as will server capacity, until equilibrium is reached...
For myself, the only way I've experienced lag on Smash Bros. is if I'm playing online with somebody that has a brutal connection. If you play with people that have solid connections, you won't experience lag, simple as that. If you are so concerned about lag, don't play with people that have bad connections.

That's not really something you can avoid or choose to avoid. Unless you just play with your friends using friend codes.

Well, yeah, that is true, no doubt. But here at Gamespot, there is a great community that is more than willing to share FC's, so there should be no reason not to have lag-free games of Smash Bros. I'm not going to sit here and claim that there isn't any lag when you're brawling with "Anyone", because there definitely is from time to time, but considering the large amount of SB FC's floating around here, there should be nobody on the Gamespot boards complaining about lag. Just make friends and share codes!
I love Nintendo. I love Smash Bros. I HATE lag! I've played several times and had plenty of lag-free matches, but most of them have at least a little lag. That's why I prefer one on one matches. Lag is lessened, and I can truly pwn. Pwn pwn pwn. Puh-own. Pwnage. Pwnaliscious. Pwnchulescent.
Sorry, got carried away. I hate lag.
