I'm using the classic controller for the wireless (my wavebird is baiscally dead from MKDD). I don't think I should have to use a gamecube controller instead of a controller that was acutally made for the system.
I kinda just feel like I don't have control over my character like I did in Melee. Everything is just kinda, well, loose. And, my god, what happened to the score tracking?
I use the GC control scheme as well, but I do have to say that the general control of characters, particularly movement and picking up items, feels a tad more loose than it should be. It might be because I haven't played any Smash game before Brawl for a while (last time I played Melee was about 8 or 9 months ago).
It just seems like sometimes my character won't turn or dash when I want them to, won't pick up something, or won't do a smash. Never had this problem with the last two games, and yes, I'm using a standard GC controller.
To everyone saying "use the GCN controller," I will absolutely NOT pull out my will from where it sits so that the cord will reach me. It is ridiculous that any designer would make you use the controller from an old system. That is just lazy design.
And I don't really think it should take skill to pick up an item. It should take skill to use it, but not pick it up.
The controls only do what you tell them to do. You don't blame your car when you get in a car wreck.swampton
Actually, a car could have many different steering or brake problems that could cause a wreck...in the same way that loose controls can prevent you from doing what you're trying to do. If your argument was true then all games would have good controls, and I think we all know that isn't the case.
Edit: I just realized that this is a topic about Brawl.... *smacks forehead* All Brawl discussion belongs in the sticky at the top of the forum. If you'd like to bring up control problems in general, besides Brawl, feel free to create a new thread.
In case it's helpful or interesting to anyone, I've left my response intact below:
I've thought the control has been loose in all of them. My problem wasn't solved until I started using the Wii remote NES styIe. I figured out that the problem was in the analog stick. There's no reason to ever have to walk slowly, so the analog part is pretty useless, and it makes the controls feel more awkward. Obviously you can get used to that, but I just like using the D-pad better. You can probably map movement to the D-pad on the GC controller, but I'm doing fine with my current button mapping. I don't need all those extra buttons.
