Even smash bros feels really loose; I can't tell you how often I throw an item in the wrong direction or constant dash past something I want to pick up. It's really frustrating!

I'm using the classic controller for the wireless (my wavebird is baiscally dead from MKDD). I don't think I should have to use a gamecube controller instead of a controller that was acutally made for the system.

I kinda just feel like I don't have control over my character like I did in Melee. Everything is just kinda, well, loose. And, my god, what happened to the score tracking?

I think that not being able to pick up an item right when you want to is a HUGE problem. With pokeballs, assist trophies, ship parts, etc, it can quickly get you killed. Most of the time my character ends up facing in the wrong direction, swinging his/her arms or, like I said, dashing back and forth over whatever I want to grab.

Sakurai himself, the creator or Brawl, said that the game was meant to be played with the Gamecube controller and that he really didn't want to include any other control scheme. Sorry, but that's your problem.

You really ought to be using the GCN controller for that. The controls I'm sick of are games like Tony Hawk: Proving Grounds. Now those controls are horrible

I use the GC control scheme as well, but I do have to say that the general control of characters, particularly movement and picking up items, feels a tad more loose than it should be. It might be because I haven't played any Smash game before Brawl for a while (last time I played Melee was about 8 or 9 months ago).

It just seems like sometimes my character won't turn or dash when I want them to, won't pick up something, or won't do a smash. Never had this problem with the last two games, and yes, I'm using a standard GC controller.

i am fine with the wiimote, numchuk combination,no problem at all.

i have changed the buttons to my liking though.....but if you have problems with dashing and picking items it means you need practice,or you lack concentration or sth.

are you also talking about the online mode? cause there is always a 1 sec delay so you ought to tap the "A" button ahead of the item if you want to pick it up.

I use a remapped version of the nunchuk/wiimote and it works fine. It is difficult to grap opponents and pick up items online, but I've always assumed that was because of the delay, rather than controls.

To everyone saying "use the GCN controller," I will absolutely NOT pull out my will from where it sits so that the cord will reach me. It is ridiculous that any designer would make you use the controller from an old system. That is just lazy design.

And I don't really think it should take skill to pick up an item. It should take skill to use it, but not pick it up.

The controls only do what you tell them to do. You don't blame your car when you get in a car wreck.

Actually, a car could have many different steering or brake problems that could cause a wreck...in the same way that loose controls can prevent you from doing what you're trying to do. If your argument was true then all games would have good controls, and I think we all know that isn't the case.

Edit: I just realized that this is a topic about Brawl.... *smacks forehead* All Brawl discussion belongs in the sticky at the top of the forum. If you'd like to bring up control problems in general, besides Brawl, feel free to create a new thread.

In case it's helpful or interesting to anyone, I've left my response intact below:

I've thought the control has been loose in all of them. My problem wasn't solved until I started using the Wii remote NES styIe. I figured out that the problem was in the analog stick. There's no reason to ever have to walk slowly, so the analog part is pretty useless, and it makes the controls feel more awkward. Obviously you can get used to that, but I just like using the D-pad better. You can probably map movement to the D-pad on the GC controller, but I'm doing fine with my current button mapping. I don't need all those extra buttons.
