Not at the 3DS price drop but the fact that so many gamers resisted the hype and forced Nintendo's hand. Pat yourselves on the back!

Me personally, before the 3DS even released I told myself the most I'd pay is $180. Now that it's $170 though I'm still not sure it's worth it, given today's game library (mostly ports and remakes).

How about you? Are you going to buy one now?

I don't think Nintendo's hand was forced by resisting gamers, rather the declining sales of the Wii. For sure there is a lack of games, but that has more to do with its early release to cover falling Wii sales. Developers had to rush out ports or revive old DS projects in order to meet the launch. Had Nintendo held out for a summer release the line up would have been stronger and the up coming games wouldn't seem so far away.

I can't believe the price will drop on august 12th 2011. I thought that would be in spring of 2012. I just replaced my dsi that was dropped and broke, I got the Pokemon black version DSi new for $144.00 @kmart. So I am still going to wait and see if a different version of 3DS will be released.

The price drop is tempting but I'm still not buying it until I see ~three games on store shelves that I can't live without. The winter lineup does little for me so I'll be waiting, in the meantime I have plenty of other stuff to keep me entertained.

I dont think resisting gamers caused the price drop, if that was so all Wii games that arent selling alot would cost less 30 dollars.

I won't get it until the first redesign comes out. I don't like the first versions of portables.

By principle? If everything is fine with the first batch of the hardware ( looks, built quality, price) you'd still ignore it and wait for a revision?

well, why not? if it's revised it's because there's room for improvement, and it was most likely fixed in the revised version.

Yeah, the second edition of a nintendo handheld usually turns out to be the best of the bunch. Even though Nintendo said they won't do a revision, it's hard to take them seriously by looking at the GB and DS family.

Nintendo is to handhelds as Capcom is to fighting games.

You made it sound like that concerns every current/future portable, not just Nintendo. I'm sure they'll release newer models in the future but I'm pretty much fine with the current design. The first DS model was bulky as hell (what were they thinking?!) and I understand why/if people didn't see the appeal of it. Anyway I'm sure there will be trade-in deals when the newer 3DS model hits the stores.

buy it already, they can't make games if the system does not sell well.

I recommend it, it is a good handheld. It has graphics comperable of 2 wii's. why? the 3d effects create 2 images therefore it needs twice the power

Yeah, that logic sure worked for the N64 and Gamecube, right? The 3DS' quality as a handheld is purely subjective, and graphical prowess means absolutely nothing if the software lineup is lackluster. I'd pay maybe $100 for it as-is, but if it got a few games I'd consider must-have (none of which have been announced yet) then I'd pay $150 for it.

i was thinking of holding out for version 2. i though 250 was price gouging and the hardware has a few issues. at 170 though....thats tempting. theres a few games i would like to get on it already and there are plenty more in the works. so im not decided. the price drop certainly makes the hardware problems more palitable and its far more reasonable. but at the same time they will come out with a 3DSLite or something, it will probably fix the issues i have and i probably will buy the upgraded version. but i want some of the games on it. argh! i cant really decide yet.

Husband and I are trading in the DS lite and DSi for a 3DS when the price drop hits. We wanted a 3DS at launch, but the hubby was out of a job at the time and I felt guilty about wanting a $250 handheld. One question, does the 3DS only come in three colors? My husband saw a picture of an orange 3DS somewhere and he wants that if we can find it. I can't wait to get our 3DS. Also going to get the new Devil Summoner game too since it comes out on my birthday.

I am DEFINITELY going to get a 3DS now. I've always wanted one but really? $250 USD was WAY too much and I didn't have a job at the time. Now, beginning on August 12th, the price comes down 80 freakin' bucks! There is absolutely nothing in the way of me getting one some time down the road. :) After I send my iPod Touch in to get the sound fixed, I will be focusing on that next!

As far as I know, the 3DS only has TWO colors: Aqua Blue which is a blue-ish green for the top screen, and black for the bottom, and a black colored one which I forgot the name of. I think (don't quote me on this) that Japan got another color at some point in time. But other than that, the U.S. didn't get any other color yet. They had red, purple, green and orange on display before the system came out, but the final colors out are only the Blue and Black and all Black one.

You get more games that a lot of people already own... congrats. I'm still going to wait until the thing has at least five games that I would consider "must-have." So far, it has zero.

I bought it at launch. 250 was a bit pricey, but i skipped the wii and sorely missed that Nintendo charm. One of the selling points for me WAS the portable nes/gb/gba/snes?/n64? VC. Now that I'll be able to get most of the games I wanted off that for free, I don't feel that bad.
