:!:Nintendo issued a warning that their upcoming Nintendo 3DS hand-held game machine is not intended for kids under 6. The gaming system is due out in February.

What's their reasoning behind it? They say that long periods of time playing the Nintendo 3DS could have an adverse affect on the eyesight development of young children.

Nintendo 3DS description:Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch "Nintendo 3DS" (temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses. "Nintendo 3DS" (temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed "Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed. Then there's the group of optometrists saying that the 3D will not negatively impact developing eyes and in fact could lead to earlier detection of problems. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6285958.html

it's the same as starbucks' "warning: contains hot drink" or the seizure warnings that every freaking game needs. it's lawsuit armor. and it's old news.

Nintendo are just watching their behinds. There's no doubt that a lot of stupid people will find something on them to sue them. The same could be said for Kinect. People will probably sue for heart attacks and home & content insurance claims due to their use with Kinect

so stupid people won't sue them. There's really nothing to worry about with viewing 3D. If parents are worried, there's gonna be parental controls to block the 3D effect anyway, so there's no reason for people to worry about it. If the 3D hurts your eyes, turn the slider down, it's that simple.

I have heard about this. I think kids under 12 or 10 years old can't play it.

Nintendo is just playing the cards safely so that they can avoid potential lawsuits

Yet doctors seem to think that the 3D won't do anything harmful at all.

Screw the fatties, this is a world where a guy bathed his cat, tried to dry it on a microwave oven, and then sued the company because there wasn't any warning about drying cats on it.

i still think that the most absurd case is the guy who bought hot coffee on starbucks, let it fall on his crotch, and sued them because there was no warning that the coffee was hot/could hurt his crotch.

idots don't deserve to reproduce but both caes is why nowdays microwave booklets say" warning do now use to dry wet pets" and why coffee holders say" warning product is hot" but people sue over the stupidest reasons one day i heard on the news when a guy at a hotel showed and the water was to hot so he burned his nutts and i have to wonder why would anyone test water heat with their nutts anyways

Well, there has this guy on a shopping center that dropped some water in the floor, slipped and then sued the shopping for not cleaning it quickly enough, but the starbucks one gets the winner place for most stupid reason. What's next? Matchstick boxes that have 'warning, this product produces fire' written?

So the question is, who's telling the truth?

Easy to tell. Neither.

Even if it really can cause any damage, the handhelds will simply not last enough in the hands of 5 years old kids to cause any damage.

Which kind of people give fragile presents worth a couple hundreds of dollars to a 5 years old kid anyway?

That's just it. However, the question remains as to which group is telling the truth. Which; probably neither are and for money, no less.

I think the 3DS will surely cause damage to kids. If I bought it for my little baby, I will make sure he play the 3DS less one hour per day!

Its a warning, nothing more. Its there to prevent people from trying to sue Nintendo. Just like starbucks and McDonalds coffee warn you that it is hot. Its there to prevent there asses from getting sued.

But anyway, little kiddies shouldnt be playing any type of video games really, too many parts to handhelds that could get lost because of them... or eaten...

Lol, DS's in general aren't meant for kids under 6. Seriously, would you like to give your little 4 year old girl a DS and have $130 bucks wasted in like...2 weeks?

Why don't Nintendo just put a parental control in the system to disable 3D using some form of password protection regardless of the slider position. Not too disimilarly to the 360 where you can limit play time for youngsters. That would surely stop the whining (as if).

Love how the media is trying to slaughter Nintendo trying to claim they're blinding a generation, 50% of parents use the TV as a babysitter.

I think Nintedo has implimented something like that in the 3DS, though that I am unsure of, I just heard that in a rumor.
