i don't know if i have the exact same problem but all i did was put my mouth over it and blew hot air. i know it sounds weird but it worked. if that doesn't work you can call nintendo they might fix it.
My R-button stopped working once, what I did was lifted it up and blew inside. What do you know it actually worked. (this was previously posted at gamespot). Good luck, hope it works!
well metroid is l-button heavy and twewu also gives you the option to use the l-button and i use it excessively. there are others so its not like i can do w/o it. ill just go to gamestop or contact ninty. or maybe blow it like the aforementioned advice:?
I have intermittent problems as well.. Don't know if this helps, but I called Nintendo and the rep asked me to take a dry soft bristle toothbrush and GENTLY use it on the buttons.. then we went into the PICOCHAT and I just used the L and R buttons in there.. it seems to work.. no clue why..

it might be awkward but you can use the R button for TWEWY instead :O

yea i tried holding the ds in an awkward position and it worked but it didnt defeat the 'awkward' position my hand was in. i even blew the botton and that worked but it stopped responding momentarily. inconsistency sux. ill just deal w/ it! cool pic of joshua btw:)

I realy dont see how putting your mouth over the L or R button (both in my case ) and blowing hot air in to it would make it work , but it did ! Thanks alot yungmonk !
You could also take it apart and replace the buttons on your ds. This is a little more difficult, and you need a special screwdriver but it can be done as a last resort.
