So an interview with Reggie on Spike just revealed that the only games on display today were "launch window" games. Now hear me out.

The Wii U is launching perfectly.

There I said it. Now the ones who are going to flame me probably aren't reading anymore. But hear me out. So it seems like the third party developers go through a two year cycle where every other year we get groundbreaking games that leave our jaws at the floor and then the next we get merely great games that don't do much to push the boundaries.

Now with the Wii architecture constatnly changing to meet the developer's wants and needs, it would be rather difficult to get some of the higher end games of this year ready for the Wii U launch. But that's okay. Because we're in the great year, and next year is the year to really 'WOW" us.

Last year, we got Arkham City, Portal 2, Skyrim.

This year we're getting Resident Evil, Assassin's Creed, and COD 2012 (they might as well just drop the names by now).

But now that the Wii U hardware is finalized, developers can start moving their 2013 releases to the Wii U; something they couldn't do with a lot of this year's releases. If Nintendo keeps schmoozing with third parties, we're going to be missing stuff like Resident Evil (this one is truly a bummer), Black Ops 2, and whatever else is coming out this fall.

But next year, GTA 5 comes out; along with plenty of other unnanounced games. Now, it's been heavily rumored that GTA 5 is coming to the Wii U and why shouldn't it? No matter how poorly it takes off, the Wii U's going to move some units. And honestly, we have probably the best third party game coming out this year at launch (Assassin's Creed 3). But next year, we're going to be getting a hell of a lot more. Ken Levine the head of 2K-whatever has already praised the Wii U, and I think with Bioshock's delay, there's a good chance it's getting a Wii U version.

This of course is now up to Nintendo to make this happen, but honestly, the Wii has arguably four or five quality launch titles (six if ZombiU is actually good, but I'm not getting my hopes up). And drag that into next year, if Nintendo plays their cards right, we're going to have a hell of a next-gen system.

I think they're right where they want to be.

I think this is conclusion that most of us where coming to/where hoping was the case. In fact I said a while ago they would probably only show launch stuff at E3 and would focus on the month after launch leading into E3'13 in later events. Glad to see that it seems to be the case, but unfortunate that it seems to have worked against them. Lets hope they pull out all the stops between now and launch to prove to the world that they are a system truly worth owning.

I imagine when the companies making said games are ready to announce them.

Limiting the presentation to only the launch window was a mistake. The biggest games are never released in the launch window, and those are the games we want to hear about at E3. WiiU is looking to have a great launch line up though, now we just need to see its price.

i feel like as long as nintendo reveals a good lineup for the next year (since launch window will probably be end of this year) before the wii u launches, they'll be good. I understand that e3 is the home of big announcements, but not everything has to be revealed at e3, especially if its stuff they cant deliver (killzone 2 >: ( ) or are years away from releasing (super smash >: ( )

Blind faith is not doing it. I knew nintendo would slow with the wii in 2010. So I got a ps3 so I could play the games not coming to the wii. And they almost stopped making games last year so I got a 360. And this year is not going better. I still buy games for the wii (still going through xenoblade) but they abandoned it. Barely no third party now is bad. Since the wii u can do what the other systems can do and more. I might get a wii u but that is because of ubisoft. Weirdly unlike nintendo they seem to care about me playing the wii u. Nintendo needs to show me more in the coming months. Because I don't know if I am getting a wii u this year or not.

I mean like between launch window and E3 2013. Surely that stuff must be ready to show.

That's unlikely, the 3rd party isn't going to wait this time. They will take their chances at least early on the Wii U.

I really hope you are correct, cause their boring presentation didn't convince me. :P

If these hardcore games are coming then they should of announced them at Nintendo's E3 conference thats what its all about right big surprises? I really want the Wii U to have all these games and I am still planning to buy the console at launch.

I really don't think it was a mistake. Nintendo showed gameplay for a LOT of the games they announced at last years E3 and no one cared because everyone already knew about them. If Nintendo had just named dropped all these games like the next Smash Bros., whatever Retro is doing, etc... then people would've had the same reaction at next year's E3 or at TGS. Personally I think it's stupid that people were/are upset at Nintendo's strategy but it is what it is. The VG pundits never seem to be satisfied with Nintendo lately.

Ok TC fair enough, the lack of really high quality games makes sense I suppose, but where are the FIRST and SECOND party games? I suppose Nintendo would find it tough to both constantly change the Wii U hardware for 3rd parties so that it's perfect for them and make amazing games at the same time, but Retro Studios has been working on something for ages. They missed a huge opportunity to drop a gigantic megaton the likes of which would have probably irradiated the whole of America, but they didn't. Also, it's like new SSB was never announced. Not quite good enough. Hopefully the reddit post about how this e3 was basically a show for investors not gamers turns out to be true and there's stacks of unused weapons of mass destruction in the Nintendo headquarters, lying in wait.

The console won't be available until the end of year (most likely). We'll be hearing a lot new games from now to that date. I'm confident much of those games will be proven franchises that most of us are already expecting Current launch line up is ok to me. I'm already in to try some games I missed in the current gen, as Assassins, Batman, Mass Effect, and more than ready to get new games as Lego City, Zombi U, Rayman and, specially, Pikmin 3 I still feel the conference was mediocre, but the content still gets me pumped for launch day!
